The Thing About Pam

15,348

Two days after Christmas, 2011, Russ Faria came home from game night to find his wife, Betsy, dead. He was soon charged and convicted of her murder. But Russ Faria insisted he did not kill his wife. Betsy’s brutal murder set off a chain of events that would leave one man dead, another man implicated, and expose a diabolical scheme. It would also see Dateline NBC—the true-crime original—become a part of the never-ending saga that proves the old adage: Truth is stranger than fiction. This original series from Keith Morrison and Dateline defies all expectations.Listen to all episodes of The Thing About Pam now completely free, or subscribe to Dateline Premium to listen ad-free: DatelinePremium.com

    Enthralling
Keith Morrison is one of the best storytellers and this story is so intriguing. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end.

Most Intriguing True Crime Series Ever
This story, and the artfulness of the writing and production of it, stand head and shoulders above all other dateline and true crime stories.

By far- the best podcast to be found.
I listen to a wide variety of podcasts. Stories of all kind. And I have yet to find a podcast that rivals this one. Keith Morrison is the GOAT. Kudos to all involved with the making of this. And may Betsy finally get justice. Say “Hi” to Kathy. 🙃

    The Thing About Pam
I saw the show when it aired last year and was hooked in from the very 1st episode. Pam Hupp……. I don’t know what to say! She is definitely the TRUE definition of a narcissist individual that will do anything for money. This whole case is so very sad; not just for Betsy but her entire family as well as Pam’s family. And the way she (Pam) treated her own daughter was absolutely horrendous! Pam Hupp is DEFINITELY where she needs to be, she ran a good game on law enforcement as well as the DA and I’m glad she was found out to be what she actually is before someone else got hurt.

    Crazy but true
This story was crazy. The police were blind and Pam is just… well, Pam. Told only the way Keith can tell it. Excellent podcast and the tv version was excellent. Great job, dateline team!

    Extraordinary Story
This story is so well written and produced. It’s so interesting. I can’t wait for the end of the story…because we know there’s more! Keith Morrison is the best! Love him and love his producers!Definitely worth a listen… Thank you Dateline!

    Good story, Terrible narration
I’m so surprised to hear how many people liked Keith Morrison’s narration of this podcast! Such an interesting story, but I almost couldn’t get through it. It sounded like he was doing an exaggerated impersonation of someone reading a scary book to a child. And every other line was just reminding the listener how suspenseful the story was instead of moving it forward. Very hard listen.

    Flawless and Jaw Dropping
The absolute craziness of this case is completely mind boggling. It’s impossible to tear away from it once you start. And just when you think it cannot get any more bizarre, it does. The fact that this is all about true events attests to the absurdity of it all. Dateline did a masterful job telling us all about Pam and the Farias. Excellent, high quality podcast. This completely revived my interest in Dateline.

I watched the mini series and then the 48 hours show and Rene Zellweger (sp) did an outstanding performance as Pam. I love how Keith Morrison tells the story, his voice is always expressive and some how calming. If you haven’t followed the Pam story, start with the mini series because you will be hooked.

    The Thing About Being Decent
I listened to The Thing About Pam when it was first released. I’m ashamed. I always assumed victims were considered when making these true crime podcasts. Imagine my disgust when I saw an interview with Pam’s victim’s child. She has asked you not to turn her mother’s murder info entertainment. You chose to re-victimize her. Shame on you. Shame on Renee for not doing her research and speaking to a victims family before taking part and playing a role that makes a woman’s murder look like a joke.

    Great Reporting
Keith Morrison and team, you did an outstanding job reporting on this story. Disregard all the negative comments by the negative unhappy social media clowns and continue doing great work telling the story with an old time radio like appeal.

    LOVE IT
This story had me at hello. Can’t wait to listen for more stories to come! Great podcast and I love the narrator’s voice. Takes me back to the old time TV broadcasts. Love Dateline!!!

    Great podcast
Pam is a narcissist. I honestly believe that she lost that much weight on purpose just in case she was charged with Betsy’s murder. It is not going to work, but like the narcissist that she is, she has to be in control and she probably still thinks that she is the smartest person in the room. I think that she loss that weight because she knows that video of her conversations with law enforcement from both of Russ’s trials at her trial. And Pam being Pam, probably thinks if she no longer looks like the person on the video then the jury will find her innocent.

    Riveting
This is the most riveting crime story I have ever heard. Jaw dropping and unbelievable. This woman is so diabolical, and the investigators, prosecutor, and judge in Lincoln County are incompetent clowns at best, unethical at worst, and possibly both.
  • The best review person ever!
    Pam Hupp
The thing about Keith Morrison is that he’s Keith Morrison, the penultimate storyteller of all things murder.

    The TV series
Brilliantly done. I’m so amazed at how well this mini- series was written and performed. I’m writing this after watching 1-5 and listening to all of the podcasts of which I learned about after the TV show began to air. I look forward to the last (#6) of the TV series but will also be saddened that it’s over. I only have one suggestion for improvement and that is the scene showing the letter to Moriah at the restaurant. I could not read the white print that was highlighted. I even watched that episode again on my phone backing it up more than once. I still don’t know what was written. The white letters blend in with the white paper so maybe use black ink in the future. I hope NBC makes more Dateline mini-series in the future like The Thing About Pam.

Dateline Knows How To Do Podcasts RIGHT!
All of the ducks are in a row. The story is told step by step and they don’t leave out anything they know. The miniseries starring Renee Zellweiger is obviously taken right from Dateline’s scripts. It’s an INSANE story but I think it happens more than we really know. Listening to their regular podcasts are master classes in how to produce a proper podcast. No whiny, high-pitched voices. No generational slang. Nobody saying “like” every 5th word. Dateline knows how to keep your attention.
  • BlondeinBrooklyn
Good podcast but why post a link to a Dateline episode that’s been removed from website?
Link in pod #4 leads to a page where the episode has been removed. Why?

    Fascinating
I’m listening to this podcast for the third time! This is just fascinating. I’m also enjoying the TV mini series with Renee Zellweger. There is certainly something about Pam!
  • blondiee75
    Amazing.
I Just listened to every episode in one sitting while at work. I don’t know why it took me so long. Dateline always tells great stories but this one really sucked me. Thank you.
  • Matt_B_W
    unlistenable
The narrator is a guy who loves his own voice too much. His affected, children’s-story-hour style ruins a good story. Let the story be the star, not you.
  • ShootingStar1997
    Captivating
This story is so unbelievably crazy, Dateline had to dedicate multiple episodes. Truly a must!

    The Thing About Pam
Unbelievable example of some of the worst police investigative work and abuse of the legal system I have ever heard. Very interesting story, however. I am watching the show right now and Renee Zellweger is doing a great job.

    What good true crime storytelling!
The more you hear about this woman the more you think “how much worse is this going to get?” … I listened to this after I saw the RZ mini-series and it stands strongly on it’s own … great storytelling!!!
  • WinterCricket
    This was so good!
I haven’t seen the show but heard this podcast was available and couldn’t get enough of it! Some just seem to be dragged out but I was very happy with the length and story. Thanks!

Exceptional Story by an Exceptional Narrator
As I’m sure many others have done, I started this podcast because I saw an ad for the tv show. I’m a fan of true crime but can’t stand the extra fluff that many other podcasts do. I just care about the story, the facts, the details. Not only does the podcast deliver that , it has an amazing, no one could have done it better, perfect narrator. I had never heard (or heard enough at least) Keith Morrison before but now I want to look for other works/stories by him. Highly recommend this podcast! 👍🏻👍🏻

    Masterfully done!
The storytelling is impeccable in its pacing and descriptive detailing. Other true crime podcasts seem amateurish compared to this.

    Fabulous story
Fabulous story I would love to hear more stories like this. To be honest with you I just love it that I can watch the show and then I can move ahead right here listening to the story. Thank you so very much all of you for all your hard work and trying to get to the truth

    True Thriller
Completely addictive story told by a master storyteller. Entertainment in its purest form.

    Great story telling
Mr Morrison is our favorite Dateline host. People who do podcasts should learn how to guide the story like him and no vocal fry! I am enjoying the episodes on Peacock but I am getting a lot of details on this podcast. It’s good.
