Love listening to Wise about Texas on road trips, while working out or just driving to town. Great Texas history and Ken digs deep into his subjects. I’ve got to meet him and he great to talk to in person also.

    Great listen
As a longtime transplant to Texas I love this podcast. Obviously in my home state of North Carolina we were pretty light on the Texas history lessons so I’ve really enjoyed making up for that with Judge Wise. My only wish is that he had more episodes out!

    Peak Texas history
One of the best podcasts around for Texas History. In typical Texas fashion, Ken Wise makes for easy listening.

    All-Around Excellent
Excellent, excellent podcast. Judge Wise knows his stuff, makes a standout podcast host with good episode lengths and pacing and humor, and covers history and tales from the Native American, Spanish, Mexican, Republic, early statehood, Civil War, and 20th century realms. Judge Wise has done a service for his fellow Texans!

    Very Interesting
It seems there are never ending stories from the history of the State of Texas. This podcast skillfully illustrates that history. I love the stories.

    Love this podcast!
I just found this podcast and I am really enjoying it! My family is an old Texas one and I have heard the family stories for years. Wish we still had our property there as we were given 630 acres in the Bastrop area for service. Always love hearing about Texas history! Great podcast! Thanks

    Texas Wisdom and Texas History
Ken Wise not only dispenses justice in Texas, as a Justice on the 14th Court of Appeals, but also Texas wisdom and history. I was fortunate to have good history teachers during my schooling. Wise About Texas continues that top notice education during my continuing education. Everyone interested in history and in Texas needs to subscribe and listen to Justice Wise’s podcast.

    Great Texas History Lessons

    A Much Needed History Lesson
Forget about the standard curriculum taught in Texas public schools, this is in a league far above that. Justice Wise will help you understand the great stories that make Texas unique. His ability to take a story and use it to frame the current events of its day makes it easy to connect to sometimes dry and uninteresting facts. The brevity also allows you to pop in an episode on your commute and complete a full history lesson before you reach your destination! Great podcast!

    Fantastic Podcast
I absolutely love this show! I’m going back and catching up on all of the old episodes that I missed. I can’t get enough of it, and as a non-Texan, I’m learning more about the Texas Revolution every minute. Keep up the amazing work!
  • Bretmc1
    Awesome History Podcast
The host not only covers famous Texas history, but also obscure Texas History, like the all women Texas Supreme Court (yes it really happened). If you like history at all, you will love this!
  • EvanSternNYC
    Engaging and well told
Judge Wise knows his Texas history, but in addition to knowledge, he knows how to tell a good story. Covering events and figures both famous and obscure, this podcast is a must for anyone with an interest in Texana.

    Must Listen
Everything I love about TX history is in this podcast. The first judges of TX, the strange events surrounding the 1948 TX senate election, the story of the first Texan casualty of the TX revolution! Very thorough and well researched.

    Wise About Texas
I’ve been a lover of Texas History since a small child. I was fortunate to visit many of the historical locations in Houston and surrounding area in the late 1950’s during summer trips to visit relatives and through the years have visited additional areas as time permitted. I was glad to find this podcast and have certainly enjoyed and learned much from these casts. Points of interest that you normally would not find in reading the history. I highly recommend “Wise on Texas” . Ben Durham-Lubbock

    So interesting! Love it!!!

    Very informative material
I really enjoy the content you present. A great learning experience as well as entertaining. As a side note, my grandfather found the cannons located in the Presido La Bahia and the Col. Fannin monument. Maybe one day we can collaborate on a story!

    Encyclopedic knowledge
Being a great great granddaughter of Jacob Brodbeck, I have heard his story of flight my entire life. Judge Wise’s account was informative and well presented showing his encyclopedic knowledge of all things Texas history. Thanks for showcasing Jacob and for being such an ardent supporter.

    What Happened?
Why have your episodes become irregular short blurbs? I started listening with your first show and rack episode was usually at least 30 minutes long and I loved listening. But now the episodes are lucky if they’re 15 minutes long and aren’t nearly as appealing. I understand you couldn’t keep putting out an episode each week, but not only have you reduced the number of episodes, but you’ve greatly reduced their length. Get back to basics, or just quit!

    Good Stuff
The Judge does a great job of telling these stories. I am not from Texas, just a student of history. This show can be enjoyed by all.

Great Texas history from new angles
What attracts me most to the Wise About Texas podcast is the attention to undercurrents and side stories, especially those that have gone untold and under-appreciated. The focus on fantastic characters like Pamelia Mann, Basil Muse Hatfield, and Kenneth Threadgill is captivating because of how close these lesser-known characters were to the characters most people know. It's a reminder that history is so often made and changed by people we never heard of. Having started the podcast during the novel coronavirus pandemic, I've been able to see the evolution of Wise About Texas, years in the making, in a compressed period of time. Judge Wise not only improved his audio quality and production value but also improved his storytelling and interviewing skills. Too many historical discussions lack focus, include too many unrelated facts, and fail to make a clear, relevant point. Wise About Texas manages to do all three and makes it sound easy, even though each episode takes an incredible amount of work, discipline, and talent. Unearthing the forgotten or lesser-known people and stories from Texas is what makes our history interesting, and what keeps it alive. With impeccable research, candor, and a nose for great stories, Judge Wise is helping grow and protect our most prized possession--our identity.

    Tools of the trade
To be a good Judge, you must be a good listener, a good researcher, a good fact finder and and an objective processor of all of the above. No wonder Judge Wise is so good at Wise About Texas! Keep it up Judge. Jerry J Langdon

    I love this stuff
As a native Texan (albeit an anchor baby Texan son of Arkansans who had the good sense to move to Texas before birthing me), I’ve always loved Texas history, particularly the Texas Revolution and specifically the Alamo. Ken Wise covers those events but he has opened my mind to many other events as well. From the great camel experiment to the Galveston hurricane to the San Antonio chili queens (by the way, thank you for the strong stance on beans. They aren’t in chili. I’ll refrain from the tomato sauce dis us doin for now). I only discovered Wise About Texas a few weeks ago and I’m already up to ep 47 out of about 79. Looking forward to more. Would love to have an email address.

Sir, Thank you this was an amazing story.

    Exceptional Content
We’ve all heard the same stories from our Texas history classes growing up. Ken tells the stories we’ve either never heard or the ones we know verbatim but from the perspective of a character we’ve often overlooked. I always look forward to my next car trip when I see Wise About Texas has posted a new episode.

    Sad
I was thoroughly enjoying the pod cast up until you had to throw politics into it with Fox News. Sadly I can’t get away from the rhetoric and opinions to simply just learn about my history.
