    Incomplete
Very disappointing to get to the end of the podcast and learn the author has moved onto other projects. Do not start if you are looking for a complete story

    What a history!
Steve, wonderful show. You really helped set the stage for a little pilgrimage I went on while in Germany recently. I will definitely mention this show to my networks. Well done!

    New binge listener
I’m quite pleased with the Life and Times of Martin Luther. It was discovered as I was searching for more information on the Holy Roman Empire as an adjunct to the history of Poland. This podcast is both enlightening, informative and entertaining. I have discovered another facet of my family history while listening to the history of Martin Luther. Thank you, Steve, for your time in putting this together.

This is a great podcast for anyone interested in religion, the Protestant reformation and Martin Luther’s role. I am amazed at the scholarly detail and breadth of every episode. I do not know Steve Fogle’s background but I am very impressed by both his knowledge of the subject and his ability to communicate complex events in everyday language. I would rate this a “10”. Bravo and God Bless Steve

Life and Times of Martin Luther
Like Fogle, I searched for more info on this 16th Century renegade and found little. I am very grateful for these thorough Luther-centric podcasts!

    A masterpiece of podcasts
I came across this podcast while looking for a great way to learn more about the Holy Roman Empire. Now I realize I wanted to learn about reformation. This podcast is an amazing analysis of historical events by putting everything in context. It’s about learning why and not just what. I hope more episodes will be coming. Creating such a podcast is a truly Herculean task by a devoted individual. Thank you Steve !!!!

    A labor of love….
I came across this podcast last month (Reformation day) and thought learning more about Martin Luther would be something I would enjoy. Looked over several books to purchase on Audible.com, then was happy to see this podcast for free. I have not been disappointed. This series is produced by an individual with a love for history and this topic, and not by a commercial institution. Each episode is well researched and presented in an easy to understand manner with a bit of humor to keep things light. The one negative is that, but do “life”, he was not able to produce episodes at a perfectly regular interval. After starting with a bang in 2016, the episodes now have trickled down to a few a year. We are up to 37 so far, and I hope they keep coming!

    Worthwhile
There are not enough podcasts covering this topic. This one gives the right amount of background detail, the episodes are not too long, and the speaker does well. I hope the podcast continues to cover the period after Luther as there don’t seem to be any podcasts covering German history after Luther and before the 30 years war.

Life and times of Martin Luther
Steve does a great job of giving you the background of the times before and during Martin Luther so that you get a full understanding of how his thesis evolved. Every episode has been a great history lesson, not just on Martin Luther, but the rulers and people of those days! And, thanks to Steve for “shout out”, he does read all your comments and emails!!

    Great historical accounts
This is a great single-narrator of history on Martin Luther. It goes into enough detail to be truly informative, without bogging down in minutia. I have used this source to prepare to teach lessons on Martin Luther. His voice and delvery are excellent and pleasant.

    Martin Luther podcast
I truly appreciate the time and effort that you have put into your research on Martin Luther! Understanding the times and circumstances one finds themselves in, adds to the complete story and gives insight as to why things happened or at least influenced the direction of Luthers life. As I am only on episode three, I shall look forward to finding new discoveries on Luthers life. It seems quite evident that you like Luther, so may I suggest that you listen to a series by R C Sproul, on the Ligonier website, on Luther. Well worth your time. GES

    4 Years Late
As I write this review I am 19 episodes in, and it is 12:45 AM EST, I can’t believe I am four years late to finding this amazing podcast. I recently finished listening to the Communio Sanctorum History of the Church podcast and was just searching names of random Church Fathers and Reformers and stumbled upon this amazing treasure. This has been my every day listen for a couple of weeks now, one episode to and one episode from, my way to my new job. I have to say the entertainment value is top notch for a church history buff like myself, especially as I have been reading through Luther’s Smaller Catechism and The Bondage of the Will. From what I can tell though I am fortunate to be so late to the game, because my hungry mind doesn’t have to wait between episodes. Thank you so much for all of the time and research you have put into this work. While I can’t necessarily say this podcast has the highest production quality regarding audio, I do strongly feel the podcaster hits the mark, every time, and never seems to miss a beat. I even have got my wife listening in her free time and she always said she would NEVER listen to a podcast. This is the first podcast I’ve ever felt compelled to review and the only one that has ever felt worthy of one. You can keep your murder mysteries and current political affairs, I’m gonna stick with this guy as long as he keeps putting them up. Come on 2020, if you can’t give us anything good, at least give us more ‘Life and Times of Martin Luther’.

    A perfect podcast
Steve is one of those people that has the gift of being able to take a lot of complex information & deliver it as an entertaining & manageable narrative. I love history. I love this podcast.

    Pleasant and Informative
I find Steve’s presentations very informative. While I was only looking to find out more information about Rev. Dr. Martin Luther, Steve has broadened my view and understanding. I greatly appreciate his devotion to a depth of research of the times, locales and people that have made this a very worthwhile time spent for me. Listening to Steve it seems as though we’re sitting in a den, or around a coffee table and discussing all the topics that had an impact on Dr. Luther. Thanks Steve.

    Organized, informative and personal
I started listening to this podcast because I needed to teach about Martin Luther and wanted to have additional information and resources, however I would continue listening to this. So far, it’s very well planned, setting the stage and surrounding context. He speaks clearly and personally whenever he starts out the podcast, I’ve come to happily await his never missed comment of the coffee he is drinking that day or passing comment of how he is figuring out a new way to share his podcast. It is details like this that create a group of shared listeners who not only like the content but feel like they are in community with their “teacher”. Would recommend.

    Excellent Life of Martin Luther
This podcast brings to live both Luther and the times in which he lived. Having studied a little over over the years, I am enjoying both the the historical accuracy of the podcast and having my knowledge base broadened. Luther is an important figure in history. This podcast will help many to appreciate Luther’s place in shaping our world.

    From an Aspiring Clergyman
As a student of both history and Protestant theology who hopes to enter Episcopal holy orders one day, I appreciate this podcast. The show is objective and informative. It should be taken as a compliment when I say it comes off more as an audio book than a podcast. I am looking forward to hearing how the host will approach controversial subjects such as Luther’s treatment of European Jews and his disagreements with other Reformers.

    Great podcast on Luther
I really enjoy this podcast. I am a Lutheran but I do not know much about the history of the time. The speaker is pleasant to listen to and knows a lot. I would like to see more regular episodes

    Engaging, thoughtful
This podcast provides wonderful context to Luther's actions, and is a fascinating portrait of intellectual and theological trends 500 years ago, and of the momentous changes wrought by the Reformation. Fascinating!

    Thought Provoking and Insightful
This podcast is well-researched and presents interesting facts to it's listeners. Although I was raised Catholic and I'm no longer a person a faith, I've always found the perspective from others strands of Christianity intriging. Lutheranism is amongst one of them. It's been my intention to learn about Martin Luther's controbution not only in theology, but his influence in Europe in general for quite some time. Nonetheless, it's never too late to learn, and this is your place to start. One thing I like about this podcast its communicates to a secular auidence. Whether you're a person of faith or not or history student or a general learner, it's a great listen while you're on your commute to work or school. Listen to it, you won't regret it.
  • jsschmidt24
    Clear, well told
Excellent story form of a complex historical biography...perhaps a "smallish" compare/contrast with other main actors of the Reformation?

    Another great podcast
I am already hooked. The content is well-researched and the delivery is great.

    Very Interesting Series
I was very excited when this series began. I have been able to follow along as Steve has crafted each episode with his unique talents. It is like a short visit with a family member whenever a new episode comes out. If you are someone that enjoys history, you will become a fan too.

    Timely Topic for History Podcast
I've listened to all of the Life and Times of Martin Luther episodes and I most highly recommend it. It is solidly in the "historical narrative" genre, as opposed to a theological or religious podcast. Even though I've read a lot about Martin Luther, I learn something new ever episode. It's timely to listen to this podcast, as 2017 will mark the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's historic 95 Theses, from which we date the beginning of the Reformation.

    Great title
The title very accurately explains what to expect. The author does a great job explaining several things for the time period. The author has great tempo and voice for podcasting.

    Fun and informative
I know very little about this historical figure-great mix of detail and storytelling! I'm usually bored by history but this isn't your usual sleep-induced history class. Enjoyed the first, will be listening to the rest!
