Wow. The AI voice ads ain’t it, iHeart.
Matt & Bowen are Goddesses among peasants in the podcasting game, but iHeart Radio is about to lose a lot of listeners for the incredible dystopian, horrifying, and dangerous (to your own creators) ads promoting replacing podcast narrators with AI voices. There were THREE loud ads in this weeks episode, directly after they cut to breaks, so as a listener it is hard to skip quick enough. I’m sure that’s the horrible point of whatever this disgusting company is trying to sell you. AI is not a positive thing for the world and certainly not for storytellers, artists, comedians, writers, journalists, human beings trying to live an actual life in an already overly negative technological reality. The entertainment industry is in a dire place right now, in part thanks to conglomerates like iHeart / Netflix / David Zaslav choosing short term money grabs (AI) for themselves over real, talented people who deserve success much more than they do. As much as Las Cult is a highlight of the week (love it so much my best finalists / kayteighs & I flew in from LA for the LCCA) - but iHeart needs to really rethink its advertising, because we will not support podcast companies that clearly dgaf about its own creator’s voices. And / or support the downfall of even more jobs in America. “I don’t think so honey” doesn’t even touch the surface of how awful and backwards it is to broadcast those ads. Beyond horrified.

    More Gen Z Loggorrea
Future generations looking back on the ‘peak podcast’ era will no doubt be perplexed at how so many could be so enamored at the sound of their own voices, at how so many words could be spilled without saying anything, at how many of us gladly handed over our precious time to this babble. They may also be curious how we came to elevate the values and affect of the fifteen year old as the height of culture and communication. In the end, all this forced cheer is ultimately depressing because, given how lucrative it is, it will be emulated and perpetuated. We’ll just get a lot more of it. Just shoot me.

So happy for all of your success, but . . .
Longtime reader/first time publicist here. I am so sad about what has happened to this podcast. It used to be a fabulous commentary about everything that is happening in the culture, and (at best) it has turned into a show about what it's like to work in the entertainment business--which is fine I guess, just not what it used to be. How did they spend a whole hour with Hannah Einbinder and not talk to her about being raised by a comedy legend who was a huge influence on the culture and all comedians (especially for women)? This is important 1) in terms of what is happening in the culture, and 2) because younger readers might not know the comedy history--and they kept talking about the older generation of comedians! Einbinder has a particular insight coming from EXTREME privilege, both in terms of access and comedy. "How did you get into comedy?" I don't think so, honey. It’s starting to feel like they are in their sycophant era. ”Authenticity is dangerous and expensive."

This review is dedicated to all the haters. just a piece of advice from a day one reader here. if you find yourself not enjoying the pod please seek treatment. look within and find out why you don’t love yourself. From one Scorpio Sun, Pisces Rising please please please go kick rocks. If you find yourself coming here to write a negative review, turn around and don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya. You can take a break from listening or unsubscribe. if you can’t let two artists change and evolve and hold space for them to live their lives then please go. I am so tired of hearing from Matt and Bowen that people are being hateful in the comments. Las Culturistas is a living breathing organism and if you can’t embrace change then go back into the catalogue and re listen to your favorite episodes. somedays i need circle in the square magritte surrealism. let the girls cook! i come to LC to enjoy time with my parasocial podcast friends and i can’t do that if you nasty heinous dilettantes want to yuck our yum. To borrow from Hello Dolly, if you can’t get over yourself and enjoy the ride and grow with Matt and Bowen please, “wave your little hand and whisper so long dearie.”

    Their sisters are my sisters
Their joy is my joy. I don’t want to brag but I have other things happening in my life so when they have a medium on it doesn’t ruin my week. They love everything enough for us to feel it and be infected by the enthusiasm!!!!

    Hilarious
Matt and Bowen have such a unique and hilarious dynamic. If the show was only “I Don’t Think So Honey” for an hour, I’d still listen every week. 5 stars

    Best. People. Ever.
My absolute fave. Matt and Bowen are real ones…this podcast is LIT-AH-RAH- LEE the most fun and it always makes my week a little bit brighter and happier. ❤️ 10 out of 10, no notes.

    funny friends !!!
first podcast review i’ve ever written just to say the cole escola interview is literally perfect i love them and i love you both! i think that matt and bowen shine when they bring their friends on - cole escola/charlie and natalie/sudi green/etc > the big big stars. also love the matt/bowen only eps <3
  • mmmmmaumau
    Unhinged! 🫶🤩😝
Cole Escola is a national treasure. “An emergency with our closest friend” is unhinged. Write in Ivanka…😅 there was a moment where a theory could have been hatched re: how Ivanka (the original) was actually murdered in her Manhattan apartment to keep her quiet before the ten year NDA expired- a missed opportunity for a far-left-wing-conspiracy-theory goes viral. Then again maybe Cole already mentioned this before she was on mic before the episode started. Also, agree that clearly Trump just wants to be on Broadway and that is the end goal to this entire charade. 😉 As a voracious and omnivorous podcast listener (I listed to a ton of podcasts) this is one of few episodes I’ve listened to twice. Back to back. Also the advertisement for Palms funeral services was triggering. Wow. Is the algorithm telling me I’m going to loose someone close soon so start planning? No thanks. Terrifying.

    Propping up the Patriarchy
I love Bowen Yang, but not enough to waste an hour of my life listening to two men share their opinions on how women look. Gross.

    Weekly belly laughs
Literally cannot wait for this podcast to drop every week because not only is it so heartfelt and wonderfully genuine, but it is comedic genius. I belly laugh so hard every week and it is the best medicine. The album release breakdowns are my ultimate favorites and their interviews are so well done. 10/10
  • SomeActorGuy
Sometmes it hits, most often it grates.
Some episodes are good but when they shriek and talk over one another, the show is too obnoxious for words. Rogers often reduces himself to a gay stereotype--the screaming Mimi. Bowen, now being given far too much airtime on SNL, has become one note. Playing the sarcastic gay all the time ends up tiresome and unappealing. Plus, he’s not all that funny. I think he’s the intersection of mediocre talent and low expectations. There are plenty of gay funny men out there; these are not two of them.
  • DaveDubbs
    Bring back your funny friends
No shade to Mandy Moore, Tyler Henry and Dua Lipa but why don't they have all their funny friends on as guests anymore? ☹️ Rarely listen to this these days...
  • NYC_feg
    Gone, like the wind
Tina fey was right. Too successful to be real so now the podcast is just effusive pandering. For example, calling Dua Lipa’s new album her “ray of light” ?! Blasphemy. I understand wanting to help support your guests but not at the expense of your own credibility. Happy for their personal success but I think I’ll only listen when they have their actual friends on ( a la Aaron and Josh). It’s the only times I find it palatable any longer.
  • dedeferre
Don’t you both go to college?
Really? Every other word is “like, like, like”… omg… “Katie couric said best during I don’t think so honey… do better read more stop with the like like like like 7th grade vocabulary. Take a Summer off and not fry your brains in Fire island and read a book or 2! 🙄
  • Zimmerthan
    Definitely not for me
rather vapid, i couldn’t get through an episode. they remind me of my boyfriend’s annoying friends.
  • LMKbruh
    For a niche audience
What they do is perfect for some, but it’s a hard listen if you’re not obsessed with Taylor swift, bravo/peacock or their personal careers.
  • heyitsjordansmith
    Remove Religious Ads
I love the podcast but please remove the religious podcast advertisements that play multiple times through the episode. As a queer person listening to a queer podcast it’s disturbing to suddenly be listening to someone preach loudly into my ears without consent.
  • Hannah surfs
    Be more real
I like you guys but you can’t only Stan every artist and piece of culture and only say the super positive things. There’s never any critique of anything. You guys are always obsessed. Feels fake. Like you’re holding back cuz you’re afraid.
  • Hskrfan64
    “Like” 🚫
Love you two ❤️ ❤️ HOWEVER, your overuse of the word “like” is so unhealthy to my ears! 😱 Hilarious podcast tho 😂

weird amount of taylor swift love.
so sad to say this, but this used to be my favorite podcast- such little cuties. now i truly can’t listen because it is only about how amazing taylor swift is. it’s honestly weird, yall. all of you millennials with this deep rooted obsession, it’s upsetting and makes me really uncomfortable. i think we should leave the blind obsession to the kids. please, so much less of this.

    First name basis
This is the place for you if you want to hear pop culture gays refer to celebrities by first name as if they know them personally. These two are so sweet and funny.
  • KellyreeseLA
a fan from the beginning, but i have to say goodbye
an entire vapid discussion of taylor swift with no mention of the current genocide + the students (many of whom account for your beloved listeners) attacked for speaking up on it. i understand this is a pop culture podcast but there are plenty of moments matt and bowen delve into serious topics and politics unrelated to entertainment. this is a moment of consequence… why won’t you say something?

    At a transition
Have listened before, dropped off, returned after that viral Tina Fey excerpt about authenticity. I think they’re really struggling with that. In a recent episode they tell everyone to take it easy on Bowen’s friend Ariana but then go really hard on Kate Middleton as if she’s devoid of humanity. Didn’t you just say to avoid harshly criticizing public figures when you don’t really know what’s going on in their lives? But then they insist that they’re not treating Ariana differently now cuz she’s a close friend of Bowen’s. I think it’s human to treat someone more compassionately once you’ve become close, but I find it off-putting that they deny they’re doing so.

Matt and Bowen are the best ❤️
Matt- I am screaming as you talk about “Heart and Souls” with Bowen and Mandy!!! This is my all-favorite movie, and NOBODY has ever heard of it …until now!!! Thanks for validating my feelings 😜

    “All I know is…you’re beautiful”
Am I on a Mandy Moore rabbit hole after listening to the most recent ep? Yes, yes I am. A full on 34 year old adult woman and mother instantly transported to me at 14 when I cut my hair just like hers in How to Deal. AND A Walk to Remember is on Netflix?? Bowen and Matt, if you are reading this, how dare you. I will likely not recover for months and I have so many project deadlines.

Was a good show before it became a brown-nosing machine
Las Culch used to be a decent podcast. Now, it seems to be a vehicle for its hosts to prostrate towards more famous people who could potentially further their careers. What a shame.
  • It's the Driz
    What’s changed
Having you both say for the past 2 weeks that you hope the listeners don’t think you sycophantic because of your personal relationships with Ariana and with Andy Cohen…it’s starting to get old. Of course you’re defending them because you have personal relationships with them. But using your relationship with Andy to basically say all housewives with lawsuits against Bravo are wrong? Not that. I love that you are both achieving so much and getting so much opportunity, but sadly the cliche is true - it changes you.
