This podcast lets you look inside and see what is exactly going wrong in this industry. It is a podcast with a couple Freddie 4-Hers who probably live in a sub-division somewhere in the city who ironically, in one episode make fun of other Freddie 4-Hers. They then have their other Freddie 4-Her friends on, who, for the most part, like themselves probably did not grow up and live on a farm, but think since they went to college for some sort of agriculture related field, or livestock judging related field that they are instantly qualified to judge livestock, and judge what other people do who ACTUALLY do breed, farm, and raise livestock. You shouldn’t be allowed to judge livestock unless you have bred and raised them. This industry has been flooded by these city slicker, wannabe farm kids and you’re all ruining the way these animals really should be bred and judged. The truth is, 90% of you don’t really know what is good, you all just make it up as you go or worse off, just pick your buddies animals to win while judging, and they return the favor and the majority isn’t bright enough to pick up on it or call you out. Luckily most of you won’t get past judging the county fair level and shouldn’t even be doing that. Some of the interviews are pretty good when they have the people on that actually do the hard work and are true livestock breeders, but for some reason the hosts feel the need to give their own opinions when they are not really needed or informative. I would rather not hear from these kids who are their buddies who are riding the coat-tails of their daddies, step-daddies, uncles, etc who are actually doing all the real work and are the ones doing the breeding. They’re just using their money to try and act like big shots. We all see right through you and are laughing. Also, could do without the hosts grandstanding on subjects. Last time I checked neither has won anything big or has proven genetics they have bred out there, so sit down. Also could do without guests grandstanding and being hypocritical about ethics like the gentleman on Episode 86 who sold a cross Poland litter after he knew they weren’t pure then went on to win the STC Team PUREbred show with this CROSS barrow, punishing the kids who finished behind him who actually had purebreds. Don’t talk to anyone about ethics because clearly you have none. These are also the type of people who “place” animals and brag about “their” wins on social media. If you did not breed or show the animal then you have nothing to brag about. These jocks are the biggest crooks in this industry. Taking money from kids and their parents to pick out pigs (when the breeders are actually the ones doing it for them). What is this teaching these kids? Pay to win? These people try to use the cover up “its for the kids” and then use crossbred pigs and try and pass them off as pure and then brag about beating the purebreds just to win. These people say “it’s for the kids” but what about the kids who can’t afford to pay someone to pick their pigs out, feed them, etc. If you think this is for the kids for some of these people go to Huntington, Indiana and check out those facilities. Selling boar semen didn’t pay for all that. If you have done or do any of the following you are a certified Freddie 4-Her -Says everyone is “no stranger“ or “needs no introduction” to the breed they’re raising or winning -Calls everything a “deal” -Calls everyone more than one person a “crew” or a “firm” -Wears a hat backward -Names majority livestock “elite” on their Facebook posts with all sorts of emojis and tries to make corny, not funny jokes in their sales write ups to distract you from the fact that the livestock isn’t good. Every new sale they have is the best, deepest set they have ever put together. Says they’re “Way Good” -Listens to Red Dirt Radio and has to make sure everyone knows -Has used the word shoats -Thinks “being good on social media” is actually a talent and is always trying to be a comedian when in reality you just spend too much time on your phone/computer because you’re lazy -Has to have their purple banners in the backgrounds of all zoom calls/some selfies -Only has 10 sows or less of each breed but somehow has ear notched litters such as 44-6 -Cannot even read ear notches! -Has put together or been a part of a show or sale where their “friends only” are allowed to be a part of or pigs from certain people are the only ones allowed because they don’t want outsiders joining and out-selling or out-showing them -Has to cheat and age their pigs or have crossbred pigs that appear pure to compete with other real breeders that actually breed pure livestock. If ya’all are such good “breeders” then do it without cheating -Puts “fake feet” onto their animals because they can’t breed or pick them sound enough so they have to falsify what they’re exhibiting. -Mentions skin and hair when evaluating livestock -Brags on social media posts about “wins” they have gotten IN ALL CAPS LOCK when they didn’t breed the animal. All they did was “place” the animal or buy it somewhere and win with it. Breed the animals and then you can brag. That’s the hard part. -Thinks by changing an animal with feed and supplements that it makes them talented when all they’re doing is hiding that they’re not a good breeder or good at selecting good pigs. Being an expert feeder DOES NOT make you a good stockman. -Calls wood shavings chips. “Got the new set out on the CHIPS. Most ELITE, best set I’ve ever raised.” “Can play at any level” -Raises livestock just for the hopes of winning and realizing the sensationalism of social media and not to actually raise good livestock. -Makes speeches at shows while judging in hopes of “going viral” instead of actually making an impact

I am a cattle guy through and through, with that being said I love listening to the industry leaders of other species!

Good job bringing some industry leaders to the table. Sometimes sound quality is a little poor (phone/field interviews) and that can be tough if listening while driving. Sound is usually good quality in most episodes. One small pet peeve- I find the term “piece of livestock” annoying and unnecessarily complicated. A “piece of livestock” is an animal. Keep it simple, guys. Please don’t take that as hateful; I really enjoy almost every episode.

I love this podcast and appreciate that they have so many discussions that I think are so important for the livestock show industry.
