Get Messy

34

Making art should be easy. But let’s be honest: Art is messy. (Heck, life is messy!)Together with me, Caylee Grey, we’ll explore what it REALLY means to be an artist. Practically. Warts and all. So that you can be an artist, today, now, even if you work a day job, have a million and one commitments, and own a cat that likes sitting on your art.No more excuses. Okay? Okay.

Advice: bank on a rich husband
I was listening to learn more about art journaling and so came across the incredibly idiotic interview with Wendy Solgonik. Imagine thinking someone’s inspiring because they managed to have a husband cover living expenses for them as they dabbled in pottery. Or to hear someone complain about women’s rights and how cleaning and cooking are SO HARD. News flash, if you want to lessen the workload, just don’t have as many kids. Also, how many artists out there don’t have wealthy husbands to fall back on? Or be able to afford someone to clean and cook for them? This lady can drink my toilet water and so can the host

    A little out of touch
I feel this creator is really great of giving there view but sadly I feel they lack context of the real world

    Deep wellspring of creativity
Huge appreciation for these conversations about creativity & creative process. Lots of ideas and differing opinions. Plus, Caylee’s honesty about mental health, family life, immigration, & geopolitics. This is a really rich podcast.

    Inspiring and motivating
Loved hearing about other creatives methods for getting ‘into it’. The long episode with Wendy was like sitting with friends and very motivating! Elaine K talking about journaling stuck with me and is influencing my journaling practice. A true test of a good podcast, I have gone back into the transcripts to write down some juicy nuggets. Thank you!

    Get ready to get creative.
Caylee is such a master encourager- both of beginning artists- but also of her guests. I always feel her enthusiasm for her guests is infectious and I get pulled into their way of thinking and creating, which in turn gives me further creative energy.

Caylee is the expert in this space!
I’ve watched Caylee’s work evolve over the years and this audio version is better than I could have imagined. She is warm and talented and vulnerable, a true expert in this space of encouraging us to make art and discover ourselves in the process. This is a glimpse into her creative world, and I’m thrilled she’s letting us take a peek. I look forward to learning so much more from her!
