One of the best, if not the best King podcast
Finally decided to write a review for this podcast. I don’t have a lot of disposable money, but want to give the 5 star review and have shared this podcast multiple times. I have taken the trip to the tower with these two and enjoyed it immensely. I just listened to the live show in Bangor and will do what I can to make the next live show whenever it happens. Duma Key had a moment in MN at Lake Phalen….. Hint, hint. Or somewhere close. Really enjoy listening to the both of you and love the format. Keep on keeping on homies!

Please start the pod with the Gunslinger
long days and pleasant nights. i found your podcast after my first trip to the tower. i was emotionally ravaged by the story and not ready to go back. although i had read much of King before, none of his stories affected me the same. Much like Jake in 11/22/63, i felt exhausted and unable to relive the series of events. i was sure that first trip to the tour would be my only trip. i enjoyed being able to continue thinking about the stories via your podcast, with thoughtful analysis, and fun questions. the structure of the podcast is something i've come to love. i'll put your podcast on to whichever king book i haven't read in a while and look at the text through a different perspective. you even inspired me to start a book club with my dad, which included a couple king novels. :) thanks guys. come to pittsburgh

    Pretty Good
I’ve listened to all Non-Dark Tower material. These guys are likable enough. They do say “I like that” WAY to much when they don’t know what to say or how to transition. It gets pretty grating. Also, Desperation (interesting choice btw) isn’t a classic because it goes from being an awesome, brutal cop massacring his town book to classic King nutty religious weird non-sense.

    One of my favorites
I came to Kingslingers late in the game last summer and decided I wanted to catch up to the current episode, so for the last year, Matt and Scott have been my constant companions. A wonderful, in-depth look at the works of one of my favorite authors, these two keep it lighthearted and funny while at the same time touching on some of the serious points in King’s novels. I’m pleased to say I’m two episodes away from being caught up and I cannot wait to be able to answer discussion questions with the rest of the Kingslingers. I give this podcast all the stars. Thank you, you two for keeping me company through one of the longer years I’ve had to live through. I like to think Ka brought me to you.

    The apotheosis of King podcasts
I’ve been a constant listener since the first season and love sharing this show in real life. Matt and Scott have a wonderful chemistry and obvious love for the art of storytelling. Whether you’re a rabid King fan or casually interested, they will enhance your experience with the books they cover. Having a super fan guide a neophyte is a *fascinating* way to explore a story. When you’re adding in the way King weaves his individual stories together, constant readers get to feel the thrill of discovery through Matt’s experiences while empathizing with Scott’s need to bite his tongue and not dance around in excitement. New readers and experienced alike benefit from their detailed and thorough analysis. I took several trips to the tower before finding Kingslingers and was almost ashamed by how much they brought out of the stories that I never caught. This made me more passionate about it though, and has inspired a couple more trips. But be careful, you might end up dipping a toe in their other shows and end up becoming “friends” with two dudes who don’t know you exist. By far my favorite podcast and life changing in that they gave me the impetus to finally go visit Mecca, I mean Maine.

My Favorite Level of the Tower
I kept reading about this podcast on Reddit, but was skeptical at first. Do I really need to read along with other people? And the first time I heard about it, I’d just finished a re-read. Why start again? I was so wrong. Going through again with Scott and Matt made this umpteenth journey to the Tower far more satisfying than ever before. My only wish is that I had jumped on the wagon back in ‘20 so I could have joined in the discussions. I finished Season 1 a month or so ago, and waited until 11/22/63 to jump back in love, just so I can join in. If you want to feel like you’re discussing this book with your best friends (like I did when the final 3 came out). Sadly, we’ve drifted in the intervening decades. So, unless you are lucky enough to have to belong to a group or Tower junkies, like I did 20+ years ago, this is the best chance you’ll have to have to get ‘That Feeling, You Can Only Say What It Is In French’.

The Guiding Light of King’s Universe
Kingslingers stands as a testament to the power of great storytelling and partnership. Matt and Scott’s dynamic is a perfect match for the epic scope of the Dark Tower series and beyond. Their insightful and engaging discussions not only illuminate the path for Constant Readers but also warmly welcome newcomers to King’s vast literary landscape. It’s a podcast that consistently delivers, earning its five stars with every episode. Long days and pleasant nights

On my way to the Tower!
First I want to say thank you for such a great podcast. I have read the series many times and have been a fan of Stephen King since 1985 when I found It at the library in middle school. I must say you guys really do justice to the Dark Tower series and I look forward to walking with you both to the end.

Fun trip back along the beam
Great re-visit with these guys through a story I love with lots of additional perspective I didn’t and wouldn’t have seen by myself.

    Best Stephen King Podcast
Matt and Scott are an awesome duo. I just discovered Kingslingers in early 2023 and am currently finishing up my trip to the Tower with them. I have journeyed to the Tower many times on my own but Matt and Scott still make my go “huh” with their take and opinions and views on what it is happening. Very excited for their reading of Duma Key which is one of my favorite books. And Matt and Scott, if you’re reading this, I mainly listen to you when I run and you guys have gotten me through many miles with your interesting and inspiring conversations, and for that I thank you. Keep up the hard work! -Chris

    Really great
I read the dark tower series over 20 years ago and most of other Steven King‘s works as well. I’ve stepped away for a long time and I don’t know why but this show is recommended and I remembered oh I love the dark tower. I listen to the first episode and it was awesomeit brought me right back to that world and these guys point out a lot of stuff that I subconsciously picked up on but never actually openly thought about our discussed in terms of theme and tropes and wonderful storytelling

    KINGSLINGERS!
This has become my favorite podcast. Idk if I’ll ever catch up as I found this a few years late but I’m really enjoying the ride so far through the entire dark tower series and now halfway through Salems lot I had to write my review. I wasn’t always a big reader but I think that’s changed now and I have you 2 to thank for that for helping me see how beautiful books and writing can really be. So for that I’d like to say thankee sai. Long days and pleasant nights!

jkjk the last episode just had such old man vibes it made me want to lash out but i adore this podcast!! yall have made me really appreciate king so much more, as a long time fan and hater in equal parts, youve really helped me appreciate the aspects of kings writing that had not hit for me before. your enthusiasm but detailed analysis along with personal anecdotes, as well as the format with an expert introducing a friend to the books is really engaging and like many i only find myself wishing the episodes were longer. i dont even read all the books, but i enjoy analysis of ones i have read and plot summaries of ones i'd probably never get to. huge fan of everything in this format and hope yall keep it up for a while. definitely something i look forward to every week after binging through.
  • Emmy3212
Enjoyed being in Desperation with you.
Thanks for all you do for us constant readers. Looking forward to The Regulators discussion then on to the beach!

    Excellent!
I was in the depths of The Song of Susannah when I began casually listening to this podcast while driving or taking care of house work. It’s been lovely to refresh my memory of the early story while nearing the end of my journey. I love the format of Kingslingers, the high level Nerd-dom and playful banter. As a high school English teacher, I must say, these two gentleman would give many of my colleagues a run for for their money . Bravo! Thank you !

Excellent discussion of a great series
This is a perfect companion to my third journey though the Dark Tower series. I’m only at the start of the Drawing of the Three and this podcast has already deepened my existing deep appreciation of this amazing world that King created.

    Just started listening/rerating
Is it too late to change the name to “Big Coffin Boys”? Edit for 2023 My rating has bumped because Matt has the same opinion as me that It Chapter 2 while flawed is still fun

Walking the path through different eyes
Every few years I feel the song starting again and dive back into King's opus, The Dark Tower. I always love revisiting the series but inevitably there are some parts I just know, through and through. However, this time when the song started I decided to travel the path in a different way and found The Kingslingers. The format of a constant reader and a King newbie was perfect! You get the insight and guidance of a seasoned veteran to the Tower (say thankee) with the fresh eyes of a newcomer to the Tower and King in general. The podcast is funny and insightful and let me experience a well traveled road in a whole new way. Thank you Kingslingers!

    Attention: Child Protective Services
Let the record show, these two pedos just gave an impassioned endorsement for the necessity of a child-sex gang-bang as an aspect of the novel It, arguing the act served as a reflection of empowering sex positivity……albeit for an underage girl….having sex with multiple boys simultaneously. These two watchlist warriors rationalized the female child’s victimization as being an important step in her character’s growth because her juvenile sex with multiple partners simultaneously was “her choice.” Not for nothing, weirdos….that’s the rationale of MOST child molesters. Dear god, I hope you don’t have daughters. The level of incredulity these two child molestation enthusiasts present at the notion people would find kiddie gang bangs off-putting is legitimately disconcerting. I hope for the sake of any children residing in the hosts’ neighborhoods that they are promptly investigated and added to a registry of some sort. Perhaps you should provide your soft-sell on Jeffrey Epstein while you’re at it? Yikes. They did mention that no revision of the story has ever featured the gratuitous fever dream of a coke-addled perv, but it clearly didn’t dawn on them why that would be the case. Spoiler: Most people don’t share your penchant for tales of little girls opting into gang-bangs.

    Do you love?
Do you love? This podcast is the best companion to a constant reader and anyone who ventures into the works that Sai King has gifted us. The premise of one who has read all of King’s works guiding a friend through the many twists, turns, and reveals each has to offer is one of the most enjoyable ways to experience the treasures of the man who has crafted so many masterpieces. I have highly recommended this to many, and I will continue to do so. Thank you gentleman, the work you do on this show has been such a great experience for me and I am so glad to have found your show and share the journey. Please continue to share the other worlds that King has created with us and we will always remember the face of our father. Long days and pleasant nights.

One of the best for SK fans
Great, insightful conversations about the King universe. Although Sometimes they remind me of the Schweddy Balls NPR hosts from SNL. (Good luck un-hearing that). Smart dudes with interesting takes.

What a fantastic podcast. Needed something to listen to all day at work and this fit the bill for a good long time until I caught up at the tail end of season 2. Only bad part is now waiting a week for each new show. See everyone in Bangor! Long days and pleasant nights!

    Great Podcast
I have been a Constant Reader of Stephen King since I was 10 years old and watched Salem’s Lot on television- what were my parents thinking?? Since that time I’ve read his novels voraciously. I started listening to this podcast last year and have just caught up to the present day in the reading of It (getting to read it for the 4th time along with you and catching some new insights). Thank you for the time you both invest in this endeavor.
  • HazyRigby

    Spellbound
I just found this podcast and I am completely hooked. Fascinating insights and honest speculation. In less than two weeks I’ve listened to the break down of two different books :Eyes of the Dragon and The Stand. The analysis and conversations are intriguing. I’m genuinely delighted I found this. I am starting The Long Mile next , another all time favorite. Thank you for being here and putting your unique perspective on these books. A constant reader and recent discoverer- perfection.

    Wonderful palaver
The Shining made me a Constant Reader when I was 12, and I’ve read 40+ Stephen King books since—and yet I only began reading The Dark Tower series recently. Even though I’m almost to the end, I started listening to Kingslingers from the beginning anyway because I just ~knew~ there were finer details and nuances that I had missed. Plus, the comprehensive reminders of what occurred in earlier volumes are proving helpful as I journey on. Scott and Matt are a perfect pair for me to get more out of this spectacular tale. Scott brings a welcoming expertise to the subject, and I relate to Matt’s analytical curiosity and passion for literature. I’m looking forward to listening to the rest of the Dark Tower discussions while also following along with the current stuff. Next up is It, which I’ve read, then Desperation, which I have not read, so now I have even more reason to. And I’m pretty sure these guys are Dallas-based like me. So, hooray for that.

    All the King Things
I’m a huge King fan, yet somehow missed this podcast until now. I’m rereading The Dark Tower series (I still have my original books) for the 3rd time. I’m 3/4 through The Wastelands and came across this podcast and was immediately hooked. I’m catching things I’ve missed after 3 reads and loving the nuances of King’s writing even more. I also enjoy their conversations, humor, and depth. In a world that wants top 10 bullet pointed lists and 30 second video snippets, finding a 2 hour SK podcast is my jam. Thanks so much for this podcast, it’s an absolute delight.
  • Lockheed_P38
    Too much fun
I’m playing catch up and have worked my way through everything up till The Shining. Scott and Matt have an easy banter that only comes from years of friendship. The tangents they go off on are sometimes more fun than the scripted bits. While I don’t always agree with their interpretations I’ve also had to rethink my own perceptions as well more than once. I do feel a responsibility to say one thing though. Matt, get over yourself and finish reading the Wheel of Time!!

5 stars is not enough, I wish I could give this podcast all the stars in the sky
I listen to a lot of different types of podcasts and this one has quickly become one of my all time favorites. I took my first journey to the tower in my early 20's. Now reaching 40 I'd listened to the audiobooks over the past couple years up to the Wasteland. Then I heard about Kingslingers on The Kingcast and decided to check it out. I was immediately hooked and went back to the Gunslinger and started listening along. The format of the show is so good with one host (Scott) being a constant read and the other (Matt) being a complete newbie. After almost 20 years there were a lot of thigns I'd forgotten in the series so it was great to not have any spoilers but to also see if I could remember if Matt's predictions were correct. Plus, their analysis of the books is fun, insightful and has brought me a whole new way of looking at King's works. I'm so glad they decided to do a season two and I've been loving every minute of it. I just finished Low Men in Yellow Coats so I've got a long way to go to catch up but I'm already dreading the day when I have to wait a week in between episodes. HIGHLY recommend this podcast to anyone taking their first or 40th trip the Dark Tower and beyond.

    Love this podcast!
I’ve had the pleasure of listening to this podcast since shortly after it started. Thanks to these well spoken guys I’ve experienced King books that I’ve read and hadn’t read yet in a new and very informative way. The in depth breakdowns of each chapter of each book is thorough and rich with insight. Now with season three well underway I am revisiting nothing but books I’ve read before and I am so excited each Thursday when the new episodes drop so I can obtain another nugget of wisdom that gets doled out. Love this podcast so much and I’m here for any amount of seasons they put out of this show because it gives me another reason to reread all of these amazing books. Keep up the great work! Long days and pleasant nights.

    Best podcast ever!
I’ve been listening to this podcast from the very beginning. I listen to several other king podcasts that I will not name and yours is by far the best. I love the premise of longtime with new reader and y’all’s chemistry is great. I’ve read king since my childhood years in the 80s and y’all are helping me to see even more in the stories I’ve read multiple times. I really hope mr king is listening and gives y’all some time to talk to him. My first book of his was the long walk and I’m loving seeing it through your eyes too. Don’t even get me started on the dark tower. It is close to story perfection. Anyway keep up the great work. I really appreciate it. Ps the doofcast rocks too and of course I’ve now read the worm stories.
  • mcammack
    A great accompaniment
I’ve been reading these books in order (again) and this has been a tremendously beneficial source of additional information that is relevant to the source material. I recommend reading the books first, then listening to this after finishing each book to make sure you get all the details you may have missed.

    A Must For King Fans
I found this podcast in the early days of lockdown in 2020, as a total Tower Junkie I was hooked right away. The format of one in the know and one newbie succeeds at capturing the joy of sharing something you love with a new audience. It’s like showing your favorite movie to someone who’s never seen it and them loving it just as much! A fantastic way to make something I’m so familiar with feel fresh and new. Killing it now in season 3 I’m hoping the audience continues to grow so we get a season 4. Scott and Matt Keep up the great work.

    Favorite Podcast of all Time
Came for the Dark Tower analysis, stayed for the King catalogue favorites. Let’s be honest, these guys could read and analyze the phone book and I would listen to it. They are so entertaining, so great together and I am SO excited they decided to palaver on! Long days and Pleasant nights indeed!

    A delight!
I’m making my way through the series on audiobook (having read them all, some of them several times) and it is such a delight to listen to the Kingslingers dive deep into this rich story. I love their enthusiasm about a story that I hold so close to me heart, and it’s so much fun when they point out little details and connections that I also found exciting to discover. The old fan/new fan dynamic works great and I’m so glad these two guys decided to take this idea and run with it. Long days and pleasant nights.

Great content and motivation to read
Nowadays, it’s so hard to find the time (no, let’s be honest - the required attention span) to read books… However, hearing these folks having insightful and fun discussions about Stephen King’s work gives me all the necessary motivation to power through the urge to check the news or social media and thoroughly enjoy re-reading some of my favorite books of all time. With season 3, it's been a blast finding all these cool tidbits I missed in my first reading of The Shining. Thank you!

    Season Two: Twice the fun!
As Kingslingers Season 2 wraps up I’m so grateful to have found these guys. I look forward to Thursdays when I can listen to another episode of Scott and Matt discuss Stephen King’s Tower-verse in all its strange and wonderful complexity. Their wonderful interaction in discussing these books makes the overall literary experience so much better! I can’t wait for Season 3!

    Amazing Podcast!
I am currently in my fourth trip to the tower and someone mentioned this podcast in a FB group I’m in. I was looking for a new podcast anyway, so I thought why not? Well, I wish I would have found it years ago! Listening to this in conjunction with reading the books has changed my experience. I didn’t need to love these books more, bout i do. Now, I feel like I’ve found my people. I love hearing the breakdowns and doing close reads. It really makes you see the pure, beautiful writing of Stephen King. Thank you for this podcast!!
  • twounstable2
    Long time SK fan
So I’m older than you need to know, I read the stand as a young teenager which then lead to the dark tower and all SK’s works. I recently discovered this podcast and just finished the talisman pod without rereading the book and it was so much fun. Revisiting through others eyes and thoughts, these books that made such an impact in my young adulthood is such a great experience. Both hosts are very thoughtful and intelligent in their insights, one more familiar with SK’s work and one just reading SK for the first time makes for a great dynamic. I never leave reviews, but they deserve it. On to black house next.
  • Neplusultra123
I recently started listening for the Salem’s Lot episodes
The two hosts compliment each other well and are both funny and insightful. For the record, I thought the knives were a practical joke by Mr. Barlow. I didn’t expect things to go as they did. But that part is still always kind of funny to me. I guess Barlow and I have similar senses of humor. q

    Thankee, Sai
Longtime constant reader, new to the path of the beam. No one I know shares my love for King’s work, so finding this podcast must be Ka. You guys do such an amazing deep dive into the tower, I am enjoying your takes/opinions/insights immensely. Keep up the excellent work!

    I love this podcast!
I work remotely and am on the road a lot. Listening to the audiobooks of The Dark Tower followed by discussions with Matt and Scott has been such a fun and rewarding experience. I usually feel like I forget what happens in the books I read, but spending a lot more time thinking critically about these books has given me a much better sense of the individual books and the series as a whole. Scott and Matt do a great job of breaking down the immensity that is this series while providing lots of laughs as well. I can't wait to continue on to season 2 and experience King stories I have never read before and revisit others that I love. Thanks Doof media!
