Dr Doom JrNot about KingThey hardly talk King anymore

ninety6tearsMehSome of the interviews are great but multiple episodes have struck me as very unprofessional. There are plenty of horror podcasts for smaller networks that feel more polished than this.
-
lburns123Ep 249Was SO GOOD! Was gettin a lil mad when Dolores Claiborne was almost left out of the great mothers convo. Props to Kate for remembering! 🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌓🌔

Cannon DefenderRIPThinking of you all right now. In tears from that episode. So sorry for your terrible loss. I know there are no words. What a special human. Your show got me through some hard times. I’m just a fan of the show, and I didn't know the man, but Scott’s voice was a constant comfort to many of us. Peace and love to all. He’ll be remembered forever
-
ARMS-ZK❤️Rest easy Scott. We’ll miss you.
-
DanDadRockA perfect podThe Keith Gordon episode is what sold me on subscribing and I’m so glad that I did. Had a complete blast going through the archives and sometimes wish the episodes could go on even longer. As a King devotee, this show is for me!!
-
rckraftWampler Drunk AgainI decided to unsubscribe after the Keith Gordon episode. The show is meandering too much and Scott sounded drunk during this episode (not the first time). Get it together fellas.
-
m.a.777What happened…Former favorite pod. Still attempt to listen every week if there’s a good guest, but it’s becoming less and less. Cannot deal with Scott anymore. Dude feels the need to tell every guest about Doctor Sleep being the worst book ever written even though he hasn’t read it (Don’t care if you like the book or not, just weird to actively tell every guest not to read a book). Rarely reads any of the books before the guest comes on like the other host. Does not seem like he wants to be there or even enjoys King. Show is carried by great guests and Eric.

CreatureFan74Keith Gordon is the BestThis is your best episode! Thank you so much!

SeanerinoA show that is occasionally great but frequently badIf you get the right guest (Mike Flanagan, Matt Fraction, Bryan Fuller, King himself among some others) you can get really great moments of insight and intrigue with this show. The problem is, any guest that doesn’t fully join and anchor the conversation results in endless rambling and extremely boring content. You’ll spend 45 minutes on literally anything but King before maybe glossing over the same points you’ve heard 20 times before. And of course there are the lackluster technical aspects of the show. A 4 year old podcast should have ironed out the kinks of echo, background chatter, audibly belching hosts, etc. Some of these are just not fun to listen to if you are sensitive to that type of thing. Lastly, this recent Thomas Jane episode pulled me up short when the dude endorses RFK, Jr. and the hosts just roll with it as he describes how we’ll soon be in a false flag civil war and laments that good ol’ RFK (a literal insane person) isn’t getting the support he needs. This goes virtually unchallenged (and that was my end point for that episode). Yikes. That’s not the Stephen King content I’m craving. More like dipping into infowars. I don’t expect this podcast to establish solid political commentary or guardrails against every wild idea, but we can probably avoid inane conspiracy theory nonsense being blasted out in the world. We’ve already got plenty of that. Editing can be a useful tool. At this point I’m definitely creeping towards that inevitable unfollow. Bottom line, this show can be interesting (even fascinating, and a great promo tool for guests), but it’s frequently not worth your time. Download an old King book on audible, or pick up an old paperback and enjoy that instead. Edited to add: just listened to an episode where Wampler is very audibly inebriated. This is not a value add, imo. It’s a drag to have the show continue to morph into such an unenjoyable production.

J.D. OlivaGreat when discussing KingI used to really enjoy this podcast. When it started, the guys really got into deep discussions on King books and films. However, as the show has gone on, it’s become more of a normal guest of the week podcast where Vespe and Wampler just talk about wares the guest is hocking and only touch on whatever the topic is supposed to be. When they delve into politics or something, I don’t mind, but when a guest waxes philosophically on a movie they just did, instead of talking about The Dark Tower, I ask myself why I’m here. I can get interviews on a thousand other pods, I came here to listen to people talk about Stephen King. It seems like the hosts am have grown bored with the topic of the show most weeks.
-
klinteastwoodmfcGreat podBeen a fan of vespe and wampler since the Ain’t it cool days…awesome pod gents! Constant listener from SATX here
-
FreshZGood idea detailed by politicsIt’s hit or miss. There are some great episodes that mostly stay on topic. Then there are some which devolve into politics or other subjects. When they can stay focused, it’s usually pretty good, especially if you are a big King fan. Some very interesting guests as well. Wish they could stick to the King universe though.

jcorozzaLove pod, but confused spoilers withinHi- Love the pod, but I was confused by your life of chuck discussion in 1/17/24 episode. I was never under the impression that chuck knew that was him dying when he opened the door when he was 12. When he started having the headaches when he was older, he probably guessed, but he didn’t know at 12. That’s what made it to me so sad. If he knew when he was12, that just makes it less interesting to me. You guys read the script too, so maybe that’s there. I wondered if he knew at 12, but I, ultimately, thought it was pretty clear he didn’t. I mean why would he think that dying man was him? His grandfather had seen someone else die, not himself. Unfortunately, I don’t have the book on me, so I can’t reread it to make sure I’m right. Anyway, it made it kind of hard to listen after that because it totally changes the story if you think he knew. Anyway, still love the pod, 5 stars

Movie SlobPlease stop talking about social media, I’m begging youOverall, this is a good podcast. If you like King, you’ll probably like the show. That being said, the hosts somehow consistently manage to mention Twitter or some other social media platform within the first few minutes of the show on every single episode and the conversation never leads anywhere interesting. You could make a drinking game out of it that would kill even the most seasoned alcoholic. How many times with how many different guests do we need to hit the same handful of talking points about the downfall of Twitter? It has zero to do with the podcast’s subject matter and no guest has ever managed to say anything interesting about the state of social media post-pandemic. And yet this seems to be one of the host’s favorite topic of discussion, much more so than anything Stephen King ever wrote. If you’re listening to the show right now as you’re reading this I can pretty much guarantee you will be hearing the words Twitter, Elon Musk, social media, or references to X, the site formerly known as Twitter if you haven’t already heard them. Seriously though, Gen Xers are having a really tough time with the breakdown of Twitter, I get it, but please find something else to talk about or maybe start another podcast that’s about how Twitter used to be a fun place to hang out and make business connections until the Tesla guy ruined it for you.
-
Natasha69thunderstruckTerrible hostThe one host thinks he’s so funny and he’s just an idiot. His voice is terrible and he doesn’t have any intelligent takes. Even worse, he always brings up someone who’s a republican that he doesn’t like or hillbillies he’s afraid of, in literally every episode. The guests are the only thing I like about this podcast. The liberal hosts ruin it.
-
TheIceIsGonnaBreak!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️I love this podcast, the hosts, the guests, the interviews, the insights and theories - seriously fun & endlessly listenable!
-
greatergud5 starsThe first podcast I’ve listened to where voices matched the faces. 5 stars
-
DtmillsObviouslyI rather listen to an interview with a person who lived in a King book rather than read one. Keep up the great work! Cannot wait for Matt Fraction Part 3!
-
DeannamiteMy Favorite PodcastI’ve been reading Stephen King since elementary school in the 80s, thanks to my mom, so I’m a die-hard fan. I love how knowledgeable and passionate Scott and Eric are, and I’ve gathered a list of fantastic film and book recommendations from them and their guests. This pod never fails to crack me up and cheer me up - I highly recommend!
-
Corncob19Great hosts and guestsI’ve always loved King, but until I started listening to the Kingcast I wasn’t motivated to dig deep into his collection and read everything and watch all the adaptations. I’ve learned a lot about film and King from the guests and hosts. Scott and Eric have a natural rapport and are very adept at interviewing others in a conversational way. I really feel like I’m a part of the conversation each week.
-
westendcombEnough with the spoilersI love this podcast but it's challenging as a listener if the expectation is one has read his entire anthology before starting the episodes as huge spoilers are given away. I've been reading all the King books in order and then listening to the dedicated podcast thinking it's safe to not spoil future novels and it keeps happening. The Firestarter podcast RUINED Cujo & Pet Sematary for me - books I'm about to read. C'mon 🤬
-
noporunner68Fantastic podcast!I have learned so much about Stephen King, horror culture, and all kinds of other stuff listening to Scott and Eric. I’ve been reading King’s books since the late 1970s but it took Scott and Eric to get me to dive into the Dark Tower series. The Kingcast folks have created so much content in a relatively short time, and I’m having fun working through the catalog. Highly recommended!
-
Romona FlowersGreat Stuff…. Starting to fall offI love this podcast. These guys are such dorks, I love listening to them and they have EXCELLENT guests! Edit: I unfortunately have to edit my review. I used to love this show but it has severely decreased in quality. I understand it’s hard to get interesting guests that also want to talk about something other than The Shining, but man, I haven’t listened to a good episode all year. I will continue to check in every week and hope the quality goes back up.
-
rkwhite8Entertaining but spoilersKingcast is a thoroughly enjoyable listen for all things Stephen King that I can’t recommend highly enough. Just a heads up that episode 11 with Damien Echols discussing The Gunslinger has major spoilers for the entire series and isn’t labeled as such. Hopefully this PSA can help prevent someone else’s heartbreak who’s journeying through The Dark Tower series.
-
LoveTheseBirdsOne of the Best Stephen King podcasts ever! You guys are so great! Truly enjoy every episode. It’s so nice to have a Stephen King podcast where the hosts actually like his work. Thanks guys, keep up the amazing work!!
-
SuzannekmosesGreatI love the different viewpoints and different reads of King’s stories. Feels like being back in English class!
-
Bryan VanCampenCorrectionI believe Conan O’Brien played the Riddler in the Lego Batman movie.
-
MortyJackGreat, but......The hosts are passionate about King and his works and they’re respectful when they’re critical. However, three shows about Lawnmower Man 1 & 2 is 2.5 too many. To fill up time maybe they can spend 2 episodes per title. Doctor Sleep is a great example, Louis Peitzman could have done an hour and Mike Flanagan the other. Flanagan directed the movie and instead he was on the week before discussing The Green Mile. Seems like a wasted opportunity. Update - And another Lawnmower Man episode. Still no Dolores Claiborne, Under The Dome, The Colorado Kid, Mr. Mercedes, Apt Pupil, Eyes Of The Dragon, Desperation, Little Sisters Of Eluria, and on and on and on…………
-
JRmeisterAmazingA must for any King fan! These hosts treat the films and books with equal respect. Guests are phenomenal and hilarious.
-
mendeenieAmazing! This is amazing! I just started it! Do y’all ever attend Texas Frightmare Weekend?
-
JB TownsendToo politicalFor a Stephen King podcast, they talk very little of Stephen King. They have uninformed political views from the right and the left with no substance on either side. Sometimes the guest is extremely political and they let them ramble for half the episode before bringing up the episodes Stephen King book. When they do talk about King, it’s great. I just wish they would put the politics on a separate podcast. They know very little of the current political landscape and it’s like nails on a chalkboard. Scott Wampler is especially uninformed and all of his opinions are cringe inducing. He can’t figure out if he’s left-wing or right-wing, and offers very little insight on any topic. When they do talk about a Stephen King book or movie, it’s as if he didn’t prepare for the episode. He needs to step it up and he may eventually be a good cohost, but he’s dead weight for now.
-
kyle11100001110The Dark TowerLove the show! You have inspired me to re read the Dark Tower and Im loving every minute if it! Look forward to Matt’s next episode!
-
joemcl516The BestAs a lifelong King fan and movie fan, this podcast is a gift. Every episode entertains the heck out of me and takes me places I never would have thought of in regards to King material, both in his books and movies. Both Scott and Eric are awesome. Knowlegable, hilarious and just really cool dudes. They get the best guests too, with their conversations opening me to numerous movies that I probably never would have discovered. Like King, I hope this podcast has a loooooong run.
-
Chris Vander KaayALWAYS a great listenIf you are even remotely a fan of Stephen King, this show is fantastic. Less a deep dive than an anthology review chat with two hosts and an always-interesting guest. Accessible, funny, and often illuminating. Definitely something you should be listening to.
-
WaltShitmanIt’s goodShow good. Say thankya
-
SheriLCEntertainingThis Constant Reader has always regarded King adaptations with distrust and dismay but this movie-centric look at King’s work has given me a new appreciation for even the most terrible of them. The variety of guests provide many different and fascinating ways to approach old and well loved books.
-
slc@pghGoes Way Beyond Genre DiscussionsSeen some reviews that take issues with some of the divergent discussions that have happened (I can see a certain segment frothing at the mouth over Brian Fuller’s comments on Christine, for example) but for me that’s part of what makes this podcast so, so good. It’s not just a look at King’s books and movies, it’s through the lens of the individual guests and, like any good critical approach, what they bring to the table. Also, the Lawnmower Man episode was honestly the funniest thing I’ve listened to in over a decade.
-
IchaelangeloGreat guests of all types and backgrounds keep it freshAnd don’t forget about the hosts!
-
ButtonTeaSimply the bestStill agree with this a year later. This life long Stephen King fan could not recommend this podcast more highly. Insightful, interesting and always hysterical.
-
Ch4nc3M00Nice GuysI’ve been listening for a couple years now… it seems… I was a patron for a good while but just couldn’t afford it anymore. So much of the patron content is incredible. I love the commentary’s they’ve done… anyways… I was reading previous reviews on this show, and the people who give 1 star for silly petty reasons are just being sour grapes. Seriously, this is an extremely loyal and respectful admiration for Stephen King. They know their stuff. I’m a huge fan of the editorials they write in Fangoria as well! If someone is just bothered by their personalities or antics, it’s really petty to give the entire show 1 star. They’re doing their best, King himself was on the show, so that should say enough right there. Love you guys! Keep it up, you’re appreciated.
-
moviefan1985Joe BidenJoe Biden is everything you criticize trump on. Biden is right out of a Stephen king book.
-
Sallyc88THE place for King junkies!I’ve been a geeked-out Constant Reader since I was 11, and now I can be a Constant Listener! When this podcast began (not sure how I stumbled onto it, but WooHoo that I did!) I skipped to some episodes featuring my favorite Stephen King works. About 2 months ago, I just started from the beginning episode, and I am addicted! Scott and Eric now just feel like pals to me, being fellow geeked-out fans. Their knowledge, trivia and insight are outstanding and their guests are amazing!!! Love this podcast so much!!!
-
der_Schmock75Kings of CastingI absolutely love this podcast. It's the only one I subscribed to on Patreon in addition to the main feed. It's entertaining, very informed, sometimes adequately silly - what's not to like? Keep going strong, guys!
-
bloowriterSometimes a KingcastI have to say this was one of my favorite podcasts. Recently I have noticed that the topic is never first you have to go through a whole bunch of talk about some other nonsense before you get to the topic. If it’s about Stephen Kings work I figure his work would be discussed.
-
Staples874Great podcastLove the podcast. The hosts are entertaining. Ignore the other reviews complaining about politics they can’t agree with.
-
Bmy06Great podcast BUT….Absolutely love this podcast and your takes and guests but please for the love of Ka stop throwing out spoilers for other books outside the ones the episode is about. There are so many king works, you can’t expect the listeners have read them all. I will actually read the book and then come back and listen to the podcast after. So far y’all have spoiled the ending of Cujo, a twist in wolves of the Cala and multiple plot points of the dark tower in general. Even if y’all just gave me more than half a second to scramble to the skip button that would be sweet. hopefully this comes off as friendly critique and again other than that, I love the show!
-
jtmplumberGood King Podcast if You Can Stomach the CringeThe Good: The hosts have numerous Hollywood connections so they consistently have interesting guests on at times. The Bad: Dear god, the level of self congratulation that takes up the first 15 to 30 minutes of this podcast between the hosts and the guests is unreal. This is a very cringe look inside a entertainment community where there is the most intense “Group Think” I’ve ever encountered.
-
JeirjjrjF’n awesomeThey talk left wing politics and hate on republicans. I should’ve withheld a star for not asking King about corn when they had the chance but I’m feeling forgiving. Next time they better though.
-
Fairbanks1216Potty mouth podI do not understand the need to curse in podcasts. I can tolerate some of it but anyone throwing out a God**** is unacceptable. It’s weak - find a better way to tell your story.
