Sleepover Cinema

80

Welcome to Sleepover Cinema, where we analyze the films that created the collective unconscious of the girls and gays of the late 90s and early 2000s. Hosted by sister filmmaking duo Hannah and Audrey Leach, also known as Too Pink Productions, Sleepover Cinema is an exploration of the movies that first inspired their love for film aimed at answering the question… are these movies actually good? And at the end of the day, do we really care if they are?

    Girlhood
I am a sucker for nostalgia and I grew up watching movies with my older sister in the early 2000s-2010s. Barbie and the Parent Trap VHS tape in the early days, and once we got access to Netflix streaming our options were seemingly limitless. This podcast features two sisters who grew up a few years before me and my sister, and they've seen all of our favorites. From the episode where Audrey said she cried over Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, I knew I was hooked. This is my ultimate comfort podcast and it's been getting me through work and wandering around my college campus. Feels like I'm on a facetime call with childhood best friends.

Take me back to the turn of the Millenium
Found this pod listening to Movies that Raised Us. I truly just can’t get enough of early 2000s nostalgia, and love that I have a huge backlog of episodes to listen to. I really appreciate that Audrey and Hannah do a deep dive into their thoughts on the media they cover, and the relevance within the context of the time things were released. Will 100% recommend :)

    Faithful listener
Wow! What a great podcast. I listen every week without fail. I’d compare it to burying my face into a bouquet of my favorite flowers and taking a big inhale— comforting but also refreshing; a nice escape from my day. Love the sister dynamic, makes for really lighthearted convos

    why the negativity?
i understand the podcast breaks down media we grew up with so of course the media will be criticized, but it seems like hannah doesn’t like the majority of the media you guys have covered:( it just feels like a lot of nitpicking at this point. I’ve loved this podcast since the beginning but it’s draining when there’s already so much negativity online already

    It’s fine
Hannah finds almost everything cringy and hates almost everything, makes me wonder why she even did the podcast.

    Soo so good
I look forward to listening every week. I was in middle/high school in the early to late 2000s so I love reliving these films, tv shows, and albums, and getting to hear fresh takes from a different and younger perspective. Keep slaying!

This show has kept me happy
I am so grateful for the creators of this show. I have been listening since the original episode in September of 2020. I remember coming across a tiktok advertising this show and immediately thought “YES THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN NEEDING”, & it was. Every week, no matter what has been happening in my life, I go back in time with Hannah & Audrey. They perfectly encapsulate the importance of nostalgia from our childhoods through colorful film analysis and personal storytelling. This podcast has truly been a light for the past two years of my life. I have listened to every episode on the day it was released; I also tune in every time I just need to feel like I have friends close by. Truly a treasure that must be protected at all costs.

    Literally obsessed 😍
When I found out about this podcast through tiktok, there were about a year and a half worth of episodes. So I was like “okay I’ll just add the ones with movies I like” and I ended up adding every single episode bc these are all the movies that made up my childhood and teen years. The episode on School of Rock was just incredible. I’m so impressed with the work Hannah and Audrey put into the research for these episodes and love their takes on so many classic and staples of 90s and 00s bbs. Just fun times all around and I’m excited for what’s to come!

    one of my favorites! ✨✨
i was introduced to this podcast while looking for sweeney todd things and i’ve been listening ever since, i love this podcast so much!! the movies they choose are tbh kind of dumb but like definitely in a good, hilarious and entertaining kind of way! it’s like the type of movies you watch at a sleepover where you feel grown-up for watching a pg-13 movie even though you’re over 13 also, idk what it is about these two but it’s like queer people gravitate toward this podcast, myself included 100% recommend, go listen to it NOW >:0

    Underrated
A great retrospective look into the films that shaped a generation, for better or for worse. They bring the research and objective facts to contextualize the films that makes you appreciate aspects of the films more. They also bring great personalities, and the sister dynamic compounds to the movies' nostalgic factor. Love this podcast so much, keep doing y'all's thing
  • lindseypowell
    The nostalgia is real.
These girls put in THE WORK, not only do they share their love for these movies but they bring the facts to every episode. They list everything there is to know and love about these movies and I’m obsessed. Highly recommend.

    My new favorite podcast!!!
From the minute that I learned that they adore Dame Julie Andrews like me, I knew I would love this podcast! I am halfway through the “The Princess Diaries” episode and I love these people!

    Obsessed. Can’t get enough.
Stumbled upon this podcast on TikTok, added it into my rotation, and now it’s my go-to. The hosts, Audrey and Hannah, are so adorable and funny—it makes me wish my sister and I had the same taste in movies growing up. If you love(d) Friday night Disney Channel entertainment or simply appreciate cringey-early-millennia-movies, this is the podcast for you.

    Is it Thursday yet??
This podcast has become my favorite weekly activity. My best friend introduced this show to me in the depths of the pandemic and I cannot stop thanking her. It’s fun to think about old movies I haven’t seen in years (some I’ve seen likely in the last few months because I’m a nostalgic queen) and to think about them with this new lens that Hannah and Audrey have provided. Most times I’m yelling back at my speakers in full support of their reviews and some times I’m furiously debating their stance. Sometimes I learn of movies that I completely missed during my preteens and make an intentional note to watch them solely because these two sisters have told me to. But back to the review - if you’re looking for some fun and a big dose of nostalgia, look no further! This podcast is for you ♥️ (P.S. do Matilda soon!)

    Niceee
I love this podcast and look forward to it each week, the girls are funny and relatable, I binged this while living alone in the pandemic and it helped me cope with the isolation ❤️

    Y2K all day✨
These two are awesome! Hilarious and relatable. I feel like I grew up with you guys and we are just hanging out chatting movies. I watch/listen on YouTube and am a huge fan. Makes me want to pursue my film commentary channel. Keep it up! Love watching you guys grow💕✨

    Better Help ads :(
This podcast is so fun, but I can’t rate it any higher because they advertise Better Help. For those who don’t know, the therapists on BH aren’t actually required to be licensed, and they’ve had serious issues with information breaches. Do better, guys.

    Butterfly clip QUEENS of cinema!
I didn’t want to write this review because there are currently 69 reviews, but I just couldn’t help myself! These sisters are SO fun and they are giving us the content we CRAVE! I’m obsessed with the movie musical season because HELLO THEATER KID HERE and I can’t wait to listen til I’m all the way Back at One (released in 1999 by Brian McKnight see what I did there?)!

    Cannot recommend enough!
If you’re a millennial in your mid twenties, this is a MUST listen! Covering the classic movies we all grew up on, the nostalgia and memories that come with each episode make it one of the best podcasts that always makes you happy! Hannah and Audrey are knowledgeable, witty, and an overall good time. The best part is they are real gals that make the experience personal, while also discussing the problematic elements of these movies in today’s time in a fun way. It’s thought provoking and fun all at the same time! I can’t wait to see what these sisters do next!

The best part of my week
I wait patiently every week for this podcast. Between the brilliant commentary, hilarious jokes, and the occasional singing who could ask for anything more!

    So good
A bit more woke angle on the 2000s classic without tearing them to shreds. Love. Also like hearing their childhood stories!!!!
  • Maddie Fiber
    Great podcast!!
I love the podcast, Audrey and Hannah are great hosts and always deliver an awesome deconstruction of my childhood favorite movies. They’re funny, intelligent, and are always very conscious of harmful stereotypes and lacks of diversity. If the offer for a 10 second Hillary Duffish song still stands: My name is Maddie Fiber and I’m currently in school studying to be an elementary school teacher!
  • Rachelyut
    Perf for y2k nostalgia
Love this podcast so much. I’m of the Spice Girl generation, so I’m a few years older than these ladies, but I love hearing their take on late 90s and early 2000s movies that I grew up on and still love to this day. Keep it up!!

    Nostalgiaaaaaaa💕💕💕
I first caught wind of Sleepover Cinema when their Season One Finale Tik Tok promo came across my FYP. I literally told my partner “oh my god this podcast was made for me”. Ever since discovering Audrey and Hannah’s show, I’ve binged every episode on my commute to work. After an incredibly hard year, having something so fun and sweet and nostalgic to listen to truly lifts my spirits and makes me excited for things again!!! I feel like I found a little part of my childhood self through this show 🥺❤️ Audrey and Hannah, THANK YOU for this sweet sweet content!!

I learned about this podcast through Megan and Liz when they did the Twilight episode and ever since then, I’ve been hooked! It brings me back to the movies of my childhood, love the nostalgia. I appreciate Aubrey and Hannah’s enthusiasm and knowledge about film. Really brings it all together! Highly recommend! 👏🏻

    Sleepover Cinema
I look forward to this show every week so hard. Hannah & Audrey provide a perfect balance of previously unconsidered hot takes and saying what everyone is thinking. This show is lovingly reminiscent and fairly critical at the same time such that I remember fondly and I learn something. Love it!

    Love!
Hannah and Audrey simultaneously make me laugh at and critically analyze cult classics from the 2000s. Sleepover cinema is so refreshing and brightens my week! Hannah and Audrey talk about these movies the way we all secretly want to discuss them: with lots of laughter and attention to detail. Perfect for listening while working from home or in the car!
