    Excellent, fun, and educational
Ivan is great at making the subject matter of birds interesting and funny at the same time. He has a vast knowledge of birds, bird behavior and biology. When he doesn’t know something he does the research to educate himself and his listeners. His podcasts are well researched and the production is top notch. I am happy to support Ivan’s podcast via Patreon and hope to go on one of his bird adventure trips one day. Keep up the great work Ivan! Can’t wait for the next episode.

    So interesting!
I just found this podcast. I listen to about three other birding podcast, but this supplies a lot of scientific information, which is fascinating. And I’ve got so many back episodes to catch up on. It took great diversion from the current political and world affairs environment.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I love this podcast it is so good! Personally I need podcasts to get to sleep, and I highly recommend this one. (Not trying to say it’s boring at all!!) This podcast is definitely a good podcast in general too. When you're cleaning, or in the car or just bored, this podcast is a good one to listen to. I think that you should also listen to this because it is educational. If you aren’t somebody that likes to listen to educational stuff then you should still listen to this because it is teaching you but it is teaching things other than science, math, ela, and history. It’s teaching about birds, and to some that is not boring to learn about! Thanks for reading HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PODCAST!!

Just what I was looking for!
There are a ton of podcasts about birding as a hobby, many of which are quite excellent, but not as many focused on the actual science of ornithology. Ivan wonderfully fills that void with this informative but welcoming and accessible podcast. A must-listen for all bird lovers!

    Bird Central
I’m starting at the beginning to glean everything I can from this podcast. Every episode is packed with information about birds that connects the listener to their habits, beauty, history and importance in their ecosystems. As a casual observer of backyard dinosaurs I’m grateful for the opportunity to expand my knowledge and appreciation of birds.

    Polar desert birds?

    Science and Humor
I mean who doesn’t like a few movie clip metaphors from Star Wars mixed with their bird science. This is an absolutely entertaining approach to the science of birds that includes ecological relationships with plants posed in a language we can all understand.

A friend recommended this podcast and I have made it to episode 10 and will keep listening. Totally recommend as a great way to learn and have fun!

    So informative
Wonderful podcast about birds especially for beginning birders like myself. The information is presented in an easy to understand and engaging format. Such an enjoyable way to learn about birds from A to Z. Thank you.
  • asilyellek
    Very fun and informative.
I like how there is a format for each podcast about individual bird species, so I know what to listen for and expect. But I love the interjections of humor!

    New names
My husband and I are new birders. I often listen to this informative podcast. Regarding renaming common birds, I am all for it. Names that are descriptive will be helpful. I think it will also bring more citizens into conservation efforts.

    Captivating
To be honest, I started listening to this podcast for lighthearted background noise to fall asleep to. Wow, did that backfire. It’s so funny and interesting, it kept me up. Now I listen to it while I’m actually awake.

    For the Love of Birds
I have tried many podcasts about birds, but this one is my favorite. Perhaps it’s due to the podcaster’s passion for birds or maybe it’s because of his corny bird jokes and bird puns.

    Highly informative and enjoyable listen
I have never felt the drive to leave a review on a podcast before, but I enjoy this show so much I just had to leave a review. Phillipson makes it easy to learn all about birds in a relaxed and entertaining way. He gives audio and vivid descriptions that help the listener picture the birds and the situations in which Phillipson is describing them. I also appreciate his humor and the jokes he throws in.

All things Birds - This podcast rocks!
Obsessed! Ivan is funny, heartfelt and so informative. I started at episode one and am making my way through. I have learned so much and he keeps his narrative light hearted and funny but he clearly knows his birds. I’m just a backyard birder but Ivan has raised my awareness of these amazing animals to dizzying heights. My new favorite friend on my walks, Ivan and his bird facts. 🕊️🦅🦆🦜🐥🦢🐓❤️

To listen to The Science of Birds, or not to listen to The Science of Birds. Definitely do.
I love this show so much. I was recently on a hunt for a new bird podcast to listen to, and this one was the only one that I could find, and no un-needed fluff. He also puts science into a language that normal people like me can understand. I love his funny voices, and he does a great job entertaining people. It is an AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAZZZZZIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG podcast, and I strongly recommend it for someone who loves birds, or is just plain interested in them.

    OUTSTANDING!
A great tool and learning experience for birders and those simply interested in birds. Ivan covers a variety of subjects concerning different families and species. His comments are amusing also. You will learn and laugh! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK IVAN! 🦉

    Very informative
Although I find the lead-in to the podcast annoying (LOL), I learn an awful lot listening to this podcast. Mr. Phillipsen does an immense amount of research and presents it to the listener without bias. I like this very much

    Valuable Resource
These podcasts are always high quality, deep dives into a variety of technical aspects of bird biology. Have found this to be a very valuable resource. Thank you!

    OBSESSED!!!
Everything about this show is perfect. Change nothing. Even though I consider myself an amateur bird enthusiast, Ivan wraps up science in a highly palatable, silly dad joke package that regularly makes me laugh out loud. They don’t make them like him too often! I’m a dog trainer who educates other dog trainers via online courses and I am soooo impressed with Ivan’s ability to teach. I’ve learned so much from this show. I’ll probably listen to it many times over, there’s so much information. Thank you!!!

    Love learning
Thank you so much for creating a podcast that I can learn about nature. I love learning the technical terms that go with these fascinating animals. I wouldn’t mind if you added more biology background type episodes, but love being a life long learner all the same.

This episode and the several others I have listened to are delightful, easy to understand and very informative. It is refreshing to listen to science that has a sense of humor and is not afraid to be a little silly. Hope I can get my grandkids to listen to some of the fascinating episodes.

I love birds so much! And this podcast too!
This such a great podcast, as birds are near and dear to my heart. If you love birds, you’ll love this podcast. I really hope Ivan does an episode dedicated to the underrated Budgerigar.

    Love this podcast!
I am so enjoying this podcast. I just began listening about two weeks ago and I can’t stop listening. I’m sharing the information I learn with my dad who is fascinated. My husband is WFH and eavesdrops from his office while I listen and loves Ivan’s voice and is digging the information. It’s a great podcast. Thanks, Ivan!!
  • Bdizzog
    Incredible
I love learning, I prefer to listen and learn rather than listen to music. Thusly, I’ve been listening to podcasts for over a decade now. Finding the perfect balance of humor coupled with good information is extraordinarily difficult, and it’s a task few manage to accomplish. Ivan is among those few. It’s rare that I find a podcast that as soon as one episode is done, that I’m excited to start another. But this is one. Do yourself a favor and listen, you won’t regret it.
  • Non ya business for sure
    FINALLY!!!!
I have been looking for a good fun science podcast for forever. Something that I can listen to while I go on walks but without it being scientifically too dry and boring. And since I am new to the birding hobby, this is really perfect as this podcasts shows you how incredibly impressive these creatures are. It’s also a plus that the host is a funny nerd and has a great podcast voice.

    An Excellent Podcast
As someone who is not even a full year into keeping a life list, I have thoroughly enjoyed binging nearly the entire library of episodes here. I spend a lot of my own time looking up photos of birds for drawings and to help me ID birds. This podcast is an awesome resource for an entirely different side of birds I may not have heard about or looked into as much without it. The combination/balance of the lighthearted approach, humor, teaching style, and seriousness/honesty about important issues when needed all make it so great! Thanks for all you do Ivan!

    Podcast school
I've got 3 forest nerds that homeschool. We are in the car often, going from various activities or outdoor adventures. I love finding quality podcasts to fill that time with informative but also entertaining content. This fits perfectly! My kids get excited to learn about their favorite birds, of which there are many. I am not so bored to death that it's a chore (I much prefer music while driving, but more so prefer no arguing in the car so nerdy podcasts it is!). Grateful to Ivan for sharing his knowledge!

Super informative and easy to listen to.
I’m a professional wildlife biologist and I loved learning more details about all kinds of birds! Highly recommend this pod!
