Must have walked into wrong classroom. I thought this was VDH's show.
4/22/25 Maybe the podcast should be renamed "The Jack Fowler Show" Between Mr Fowler's interminable reading of multiple ads, his longwinded, utterly superfluous, introductions & prompts to every question, and his irksome interruptions throughout, it seems Fowler takes up more air time than professor Hanson's commentary. Were it not for Fowler's excessive participation with a voice not made for Radio, VDH's podcast unquestionably would merit five stars. I try to listen on weekends only, when Sammi Winc is the co-host, just to avoid the sound of Jack Fowler's voice, which I find exceedingly disagreeable. 12/14/24 Jack's antics get fouler and fouler. He manages to make Professor Hanson's otherwise superb podcast unbearable. The superfluous interjections ("yeah," "right," "oh yeah!" etc.) disrupt and throw spanners into the poetry and logic of VDH's delivery. The obsequious giggling; the chortling; the garrulous prompts; the sound of heavy breathing: make it stop! Perhaps his voice would be less grating if half the recording did not consist of Fowler wheezing through interminable ads with irksome intonation and insufferable inflection. Businesses should insist on a non-grating voice talent for the ads they pay for. 12/3/24 I may need to limit listening to weekend editions w Sami. Jack Fowler is a smart, talented writer with many gifts. Serving as co-host to the great VDH, however, is not his forte, in my opinion. His monosyllabic interjections -- e.g., "yeah"; "heh heh heh heh"; "ug"; "right"; "right"; "right"; &c. --are quite disruptive. He must be unaware that he's ruining the rhythm of Prof Hanson's expositions, and thereby spoiling the listening experience. How disappointing and unpleasant it is to hear VDH's mellifluous commentary so frequently pillaged by meaningless exclamations. The long prompts preceding each topic seem to grow ever longer. Why not just say something like, "Please tell us your thoughts about _____." No one needs the interminable introductions and explanations. I get the sense from other reviews that my irritation w JF is shared by many. These problems are easily remedied. I hope Mr Fowler will heed the suggestions of many reviewers and curtail his commentary to let the professor speak! 11/26 I know a lot of reviewers complain about Mr. Fowler's garrulousness, but I will not mention that in a review, as it would be disrespectful to a fine intellect and writer. (Practicing my rhetorical devices, haha) 2) Jack Fowler (10/17/24 show) referenced a hearing in the appeal of New York's property-appraisal case against President Trump. Mr. Fowler said the hearing took place in the "high court" of New York. If he's referring to the hearing on Sept 24, 2024, he's mistaken. That hearing took place in the Appellate Division, which is the mid-level appellate court. The "high court" in New York is the Court of Appeals. (For reasons too tedious to explain, the trial court, the lowest level in the hierarchy, is called, absurdly, in my view, the "Supreme Court.")

Hi Jack, I really enjoy your work, particularly the natural interaction you have with Victor. You are a great team! That said, please reconsider your opinion of Billy Bulger. Thx. Great Island Bob

    Victor’s Uncle Victor
Dear Victor, I listen to your podcast religiously! Appreciate how you translate current events and provide historical context to every conversation. In a recent podcast you referenced Uncle Victor was killed in Okinawa. My great-uncle John was killed at the Battle of the Bulge (he is buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery). I was able to obtain a reproduction of his individual deceased personnel file from the National Archives. He died immediately after we (Patton’s 3rd Army) crossed the Rhine. I worked with a gentleman named George at NARA and the file was sent to me quickly. If you want to find out more about Uncle Victor, NARA can help. My best to you, Jack, and the great Sami Winc!

    Accept No Substitutes
One of the finest minds in podcasting. VDH delivers his keen insights without the hectoring of other conservative voices in this space. He delivers his message with humility and grace. One complaint: 7 minutes of advertising @ the top of the show before we get to the conversation? That should be adjusted. It’s intrusive.

    The Lost Appeal: Stereotypes
Mr. Hanson: As I heard you comment on your podcast today with Mr. Fowler (04/17/2025), almost apologizing for a stereotypical observation, I remembered an experience I had several years ago. From an anthropological and historical point of view, stereotyping is a “tool of survival”. In my opinion, it is natural and we do not have to apologize for implementing such observations. About 15 years ago, my sister, brother-in-law and I were returning to Oakland on BART from a S.F. Giants game about midnight. A kind Black lady working late at the BART station looked at the only three “white” folks in the station and asked, “Where are you going?” We replied, “We were planning to walk to the Jack London Hotel”. She smiled and said, “You may want to call a cab…” It was so noted and appreciated.

    Trade School Endowment
VD Hanson talked in the 4.17.25 show about creating an endowment for trade schools. Mike Rowe Works Foundation is worth a look, as it does exactly what Mr. Hanson described.

Your Victor Davis Hanson podcast on utube
You’re one of the people along with Steven kotkin that I always tune into…my top favorite author is Marshall McLuhan who wrote a lot including ‘war and peace in the global village ‘ I wish he had a podcast. I’m grumpy because of the current geopolitical discussion since it never gets down to the nitty gritty which is to say the long history of the Turkish Straits, Bosporus and Dardanelles. See “WHATS IN THE BOX” on utube .it deals with the whole enchilada….whole nine yards…I started thinking about it when I first heard about the fact that Romania has an actual navy. Which refers to the fact that Russia doesn’t want any part of a world that could easily? Disrupt its tankers. I’m grumpy. I’ll end here and will write more if you wish. I’m sure we share a lot in the world of experience. I’m 80 years old…. Later

    Classic American Brilliance
I look forward to VDH show. His pragmatic approach to every topic is refreshing. His ability to simplistically articulate the thoughts of most red blooded Americans is second to none.

    Thoughts
As a person who spent well above average time (as a student) in the academic world respect what I view as his very realistic take (as a professor) that many of these intelligentsia should stick to their wheelhouse. In my young life poo pooed historians but thanks to people like DVH I finally get it.

    Submarine danger
Just a thought. A few podcasts back you seemed to underrate a diesel powered submarine. Once submerged they are virtually impossible to detect. The Soviet Foxtrot was a real threat during the Cold War due to their stealth. I wouldn’t underrate a Chinese diesel boat too quickly. This from a Cold War submarine veteran who faced the Foxtrots. Great podcasts every time!

Great insight and a lot of commercials
VDH is great and always provides a well reasoned and articulated response to political matters. I enjoy listening to his analysis. I find the commercial breaks grating but I get it. It’s a subscription free podcast and he’s gotta eat too. So I grin and bear it.

    Sinusitis healed
Thank you for your wise and witty , informative and thoughtful comments about history in the making. Your understanding of current events is greatly appreciated. I am very concerned about your battle with sinusitis, and tired of hearing about it. So I am going to pray for you and if you get relief, a healing and recovery please give God the glory!

    Amazing Command of Info
Victor’s command of history, how it plays into current events, and where we can go from here is insightful, deep, vast, and unbelievably profound! He amazes me every time I listen.

    Victor Needs Vacation
I absolutely love listening to Victor! The podcasts are informative and entertaining. The wisdom and insights are reminiscient of discussions with my Father who is sadly deceased. That being said, I do worry about Victor pushing himself. He has had long covid, flus, now the sinus infection etc. In spite of health setbacks he manages to do podcasts, lectures, flying back and forth, on Fox, on Meghan, on the Daily Signal et al. Victors wirk ethic is like the energizer bunnys. He needs to take a well deserved vacation! Even if he does not go away he can relax on the farm. We want him to have time and rest to properly recouperate!

    What caused the Great Depression?
According to Milton Friedman, the Great Depression was caused by the federal reserve bank. The money supply decreased by 33 percent between 1929 and 1933. A recession turned into a depression because of poor monetary policy in this case massive deflation and bank closures

    corrigenda
It’s those Hoyse sponsors with names starting with H! Taft- Hartley Smoot- Hawley . And it was not Dr War War, but Dr Win the War War war came from the line attributed to Churchill: Better ja-jaw than war-war.. Love your show, fun to have a part in it actively. I make plenty of goofs on my own .
  • $$Flow
    Minor correction
VDH is always as brilliant as ever in his explanations and historical commentary. I wanted to point out that he errored in making the comment that 30T is 33% more than 20T in reference to the GDPs of the US and EU respectively. It’s actual 50% more.

    Treasure Trove Poscast
I am thrilled to know about the VDH’s podcast. ⭐️🏆⭐️ For years, I have appreciated your informed perspective and clear presentation of current events and an ancient history. When I saw you on tv interviews, the segments were always too short!! These longer conversations are excellent! Thank you for sharing your research and perspective with us!!

    We Have A Chance
I’m in agreement with you that we have a chance to save this country and ultimately the world. It will take more than a few years and I believe we must be more forceful early on. It’s all or nothing now! We must do what is right, not what the crazies believe is lawful. The judiciary is out of control. We need drastic measures to remedy.

    The Most Decent Man
Others have commented on how enlightening and entertaining VDH can be, but the singular characteristic that makes me listen to and read everything from VDH is his wisdom. There is no one in public life that is more wise and decent. What a wonderful human being. Thank you so much!

    Out Of Date Podcast
I love Victor but recording a podcast and releasing it 3 or 4 days later doesn’t make sense. The news cycle changes so quickly. This podcast releasesd today is totally out of date.

    Thoroughly enjoy!
I look forward to the podcast and Dr. Hanson’s critical analysis of current and historical issues.

    Thanks!
I hope that more people diversify their sources of information to include your podcast. I have been listening for about a year now and I have enjoyed it immensely. I never miss an episode. I especially enjoy you tying in historical events to current events and how, if we as a country are not careful, history can and sometimes does in fact repeat itself. Keep up the great work and NEVER lose your unique sense of humor!

Outstanding. Full of substance. Engaging and with Sami's questions, musings...Victor shares wealth of knowledge, history, politics, life. Listening to Victor since I first listened to him making sense of politics of the 1980's on the ART BELL Show. Following Victor on radio, podcasts, is a wonderful ride. Thank You, Victor; you are so appreciated!

    VDH, Sami, and Jack
Thanks so much for your many contributions to rationality and clarity. I look forward always to the 4 per week podcasts especially because I often listen only at late nights. I’m 63 and VDH has been one of the best voices in my life, if not the best. Victor, Jack, and Sami may remember the great Bill Wattenburg on KGO radio years ago. He was also one of the greatest voices of his time.

    A Portuguee from Gustine
Hello Victor and Jack, My name is Darryl Garcia. Growing up in Gustine was a blessing. When my father and his three brothers were young, they were dairy farmers. Many great lessons I learned growing up doing ranch work. One of my Uncles sold milk for the dairy co-op in Tulare. We had cousins in Tulare, Joe Rico, that were grape farmers. My dad I would go to Tulare, when cousin Joe had removed grape steaks from the vineyards, and use them to build residential fence on property in Gustine. I appreciate Victor’s sharing memories of the San Joaquin Valley. I love the valley. Thank you again for this podcast. -Darryl

    WWI Consequences and Democratic Angst
A terrible name for a virtuoso walk from 1915 through to contemporary European instability. And then he covers the Anti Trump violence threatening today and ends with comments on the Judicial Activism we see right now. In two months there have been 60 injunctions issued by courts to thwart the current Government. It’s an hour and 15 but he has a marvelous grasp of history and its sweep …and speaks like a farmer from Fresno. Truly amazing and informative.

    Love victor. But
I have been listening to Mr Hanson for about a year. I have been noticing more and more commercial breaks. It’s starting to get over the top. I can fast forward through them but they have become rather annoying with their length and frequency. I know I’m a Debbie Downer but I felt compelled to comment. Otherwise it’s great even though content is significantly reduced now.

    Commercials & Crybabies
Love your show, Victor, and your hosts, Jack and Sami. Your podcast does feature many commercials, which do interrupt, at times, the flow of your discussions and exegeses. Podcasts cost money to produce, however, but there is no charge to listen to your podcasts, which is a big positive. Too many whiners in the Comments section sniffling about commercials. If these crybabies are truly “big fans,” as many claim, they should just fast forward through the commercials, and stop with the “I’m Outta Here” showboating. Jack and Debbie Brewster

Your listeners love you back Victor
Victor, Thank you as always for your kind clear commentary and valuable insight. Maybe you should interview Jeffery Tucker or Scott Besset to discuss the benefits of reciprocal tariffs. I often listen to you and Jack while eating dinner. You make for great dinner companions. Always learning something new from you Victor. Wishing you much better heath in the coming weeks and into the rest of the year.

The Promise of Trump & University Ethos
Clean explanation of judicial overreach is great. Love the insight into Jackie Dimon’s Greek ethos and the generational impact it has today. As for Universities. Sent my son to Top Public Engineering College. He came back a Marxist and we are estranged. Good job U of I.

    Refreshing!
Thanks for just being a regular person! I only discovered you as a political commentator a couple years ago and I was immediately struck by your candor and common sense approach to real issues people face every day. I listen to your podcast while I work on the farm and I send as many people as I can to listen to your podcasts and commentary. We could use more level headed people like you in the public sector. Please keep being a “real” person! Mike from Ohio

    Best Podcast!
I left a review a few years ago that you read on the show as I was doing the Hadrian’s Wall hike. I’ve worked my way up and recently climbed Mt Aconcagua in Argentina and helped get you a few listeners for the extremely tough days. Thanks for always making my walks and hikes a little more enjoyable. John

He tells you how it really is!
Been listening to VDH since 2020, when they locked us all down for the Scamdemic. Historians like him, will justify that government & institutions, have to be kept in check. Or, they will repeat the failures of the past, if you don’t remind them, that they represent us, at our consent.
