The Deck

7,648

For years, some law enforcement agencies have replaced the faces of traditional playing card decks with images of missing and murdered people and distributed those cards in prisons hoping inmates would come forward with information needed to crack these cold cases wide open.

Now, audiochuck is dealing you in.

Each week, we will be working with investigators and family members to bring you the details of some of the coldest cases from around the country in hopes that someone listening can finally bring these victims the justice they deserve.

    Keep going Ashley
I enjoy Ashley’s efforts in trying to get attention on ALL various stories. If inclusion is too WOKE for you then don’t listen. Will never understand why folks choose to complain rather than turn the channel. Choose another podcast. No one is forcing you to listen. Maybe think about why some of the issues in these stories bother you, when at the end of the day that is a human whose life has been taken. Someone’s child, sibling, parent, etc. I guess today compassion and empathy can’t occur until something awful happens to you and yours. Thank you Ashley 💙

    Background junk
The background “music” or whatever that banging around junk noise is has become a distraction. I love the show, but it’s getting hard to listen to. Please tone it down and I’ll come back with a five star review! Update: May 30, 2024 background music was ridiculous! Please, just stop! I love this podcast but I can not give it 5 stars.

    Listener lost
A loyal listener since the beginning. Love the concept and the story telling. However, between this and Crime Junkie, Flowers is way too focused on a political agenda rather than presenting cold cases to help get them solved. Not willing to listen any longer with woke propaganda.

    Lacks depth.
Missing depth. I feel like the episodes are being glossed over a bit- just no personality in these episodes.

    Enough w/Virtue Signaling
Every 2-3 episodes seemingly there’s another LGBTQ propaganda message pushed down your throat. I’ve been listening to Crime Junkie and The Deck for a long time, but it’s becoming insufferable. I gotta unfollow. Enough already!

    Theme
Love the theme of the cards! Storytelling is okay, but Flowers really needs to find better adjectives than SUPER!🙄

    Loni episode
Thanks for sharing Loni’s story this week. I live in this area and I’m a trans man. I was unaware of Loni’s story until today. Hopefully this will help get some answers to solve the case. I also really appreciate your desire to use the correct pronouns and name for the people in these cases. I see a lot of eye rolling in my day to day life when someone asks for specific pronouns to be used. I’m a big fan of you and Audiochuck!

    Incredible shrinking pod
Have been a long time listener, but lately there is not the same depth. Often feels like someone reading a single news article. Previous format aggregated sources and relied on multiple sets of facts and more investigation. Episodes are much shorter and far less interesting. Cheering them on and whatever else they’re doing, but it’s not this podcast anymore.

    Music is cringe
The theme song gives me secondhand embarrassment; audio suffers from being over produced. Yikes.
  • Weeeeman069
Gone woke, and ran out of cases.
Seems like every case now is a two minute overview stretched to a half hour since there are no details. Then there’s all the “someone experiencing homelessness” and “a person involved in sex work” and “a human going through drug dependency”. Not to mention “the police didn’t do their job”.

    Woke
Constantly mincing their words and shoehorning in woke language. Always the most politically correct doublespeak.

    Stolen
She clearly took the idea from the podcast “Dealing Justice who have been doing this concept since 2020. Do you ever have an original idea or do you just want to make money by ripping peoples ideas?

    Mostly love
I love this podcast. My only issue is the volume of the background music at times. It gets annoying and almost drowns out the voice content. Continual background music isn’t necessary in my opinion and it has caused me to stop listening to certain episodes. Maybe it’s just me! But something to consider. :) still love it though.

    Ads…
I’ve been following the deck for a while, and overall I’m hooked! However, there’s just so many ads and it’s hard to listen to. I get that you guys need money but you have a ton of weekly shows, full of ads. Back when CJ started, the podcast was really focused on telling the stories and not gaining ad revenue.

    Good show
It makes me very happy to see a bunch of people get triggered over police criticism. But it’s obvious she doesn’t hate police but has slight problem with the mishandling of cases. So no, her having grievances with the police isn’t “woke”. But it sure is funny that y’all get so triggered by it.

    LOVE!!
I’m not usually a BIG podcast person, but when I found The Deck I got absolutely hooked. I don’t think I’ve ever waited to just listen to someone before! The details and the way Ashley Flowers tells the story, absolutely bone chilling and perfect

I love Audiochuck (10 stars) but you’re doing it wrong!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!! Get it right… ITS APPA-LATCHA-CHUN Not APPA-LAY SHU!!! 😡

    Impressive Ad Rate
Greatly respectful and hopefully promoting justice for these victims and their families. However, if you’ve ever wondered how many ad breaks can be included in a 30 minute or less episode, The Deck will quickly give you an answer! I hope that money goes to the families or truly needed resources.

    Amazing
everyone moaning and complaining about her distaste for cops is actually so dumb. oh my god. ashley literally works to help police, she calls out investigators and shotty police work when entire families are disregarded and murder victims are left in the dark. if you find that offensive, you need to gain some empathy and stop being such a mindless sheep. not all cops are good, not all police work is good! we live in america! this is the problem with true crime content, you lot expect every single person to adore and idolize every single cop in every single case even when some of them straight up make fun of the victims! you’re ridiculous. keep doing your thing ashley. you’re great at what you do, don’t stop holding people accountable. it’s refreshing to see someone who actually talks about these issues with police forces and doesn’t blindly love cops. it gets tiring. love ya girlie.

    Fantastic show and host
Longtime fan, great show. Latest episode has a very rushed tone, which isn’t as engaging. Please don’t over-produce or speed up future episodes. Ashley has a naturally pleasant verbal gait.

YOUR OUT OF YOUR MIND! I love you Ashley, don’t let anyones stupid comments get to your head!

    Clarissa Castro
Ashley - Her name is Clarissa not “Claricia”. Even the officer interviewed in this episode was saying her name correctly. Was a little cringe listening to the constant mispronunciation of this poor girls name.

    Used to love you
You have lost your vibe. So disappointing!!!

    Love Love Love Ashley Flowers
After getting thru all the podcasts on crime junkie in an absurd amount of time, I decided I had to check out the Deck and I’m so happy I did! Ashley Flowers tells the stories of so many victims that don’t have voices anymore! Thank you for making me a podcast lover and true crime junkie!

    Speed
Did the speed of the podcasts change? They seem so fast.
  • Crime Junkie 007
    Solid Gold
I am a top tier Crime Junkie so naturally I have to check out all of the Audio Chuck shows. The Deck is my favorite just under Crime Junkie. I love Ashley Flowers and every thing she stands for. Seriously… I could listen to her read the back of a shampoo bottle.

    Episode Owachige Osceola
Owachige Osceola (8 of Diamonds, Oklahoma) was just so heartbreaking. Has there been any updates on this case? This has stuck with my for a while. Happy 2 years to The Deck

    Susan Taraskiewicz case
This case really haunts me, she was a woman moving up in a male dominated job, she had experienced harassment and reported it. Ty here may be other explanations but when I start to think about the progress society has made this case reminds me there is still a long way to go.

    Mary and Susie Reker
Of all The Deck episodes, I have to say the Mary and Susie Reker case has blown my mind!! I’m from St Cloud Minnesota and knew of this case being unsolved. I remember the girls being found by the quarries but there was a lot of information on this case I learned !! Ashley does an amazing job!!!

    All podcasts
I love all the podcasts that is done by Ashley and her crew. I have listened to everything and can’t wait til the new episodes come out a week later. I am from Virginia and don’t really have any podcasters here that do any stories on cases here. Thanks for all you do.
  • Queenbeeotch272
    Another great podcast
I love anything Ashley Flowers and AudioChuck puts out. Thank you for bringing light to all these cold cases.

My top podcast - MAKE MORE!!
Omg. I don’t know where to start. This podcast is so well done and I love your voice. You do an amazing job of illustrating the story without dragging it on. Please make more, faster. I check every other day now 😩
  • Music can express
    Great clean podcast
I really love the way it is layed out and love the audio effects at the beginning. I love that they are bringing to light cold cases for everyone to hear and hopefully help solve! @Bcandillo74

Our stories matter. Thank you for highlighting an undocumented victim’s story
Today I was blown away listening to the Spanish version of Manuel Mozqueda Ruiz’s episode. This show is one of my favorites and to hear the representation today was phenomenal. I cannot thank Ashley Flowers and the Deck team enough for putting this content out there in Spanish so that the Spanish speaking community who might have known Manuel but were to afraid to speak in 2004 can access this information and maybe come forward if they know something. Thank you for seeing the humanity of this person and not just discarding his story because of his undocumented status in this country. These stories matter and I’m so happy to see them get recognized on a huge platform such as this.

    I don’t speak Spanish, so I can’t listen.

    :/
This is not a bad crime podcast per se. HOWEVER, 15-30 min episodes and half of it is nothing but commercials??? Seriously, if you don’t have enough content, why bother??? I know I’m not bothering with this podcast anymore.

    Ads
Way too many ads and too many ad breaks compared to other podcasts of this length. ashley’s speaking voice, diction and pronunciation are spot on. I appreciate her passion for victim advocacy, however, there is way too much criticism of police, investigators , attorneys, and the criminal justice system. As far as I know, Ashley is not an attorney, educated in criminal justice, employed in the courts or legal system, trained as a criminal investigator, or a police officer of any kind of sort. To me, there is too much speaking of topics which you are not qualified to speak. Once you are educated, trained, and experienced in these fields, you will be qualified to criticize the actions, interactions, decisions, and thinking of those who are educated, trained, and experienced in these fields.

    Advertising
The advertising is a bit aggressive. I appreciate that you need to have funding for the show but the first 10 min, 6 of it was advertising.
  • KNicole1864
    Love it!!
The Deck is so good!! I already was obsessed with Ashley Flowers and Crime Junkie so when I heard about the deck I hurried over to listen. It did not disappoint!! Also, can I just mention the intro is like ASMR🤣

    Over the excessive ads!
This and all of Ashley’s other podcasts used to be my go to’s BUT the level of greed that drives a person to do over half of any half hour podcast in ads must run deep. It is insanely excessive how over the top they have went with it. It was never like this in the beginning and no other podcast is this excessive when it comes to ads. Just leaves a bad taste in your mouth especially knowing how many podcasts she is doing this on! I have since unsubscribed from all of them. The minor amount of content in each episode isn’t worth the time.

Surface level story telling and research
After listening to The Prosecutors podcast, I realized just how much the audiochuck podcasts, including this one, cut corners in research and story telling. The creators are more concerned with business and quantity of content than the thoroughness of the research and analysis of the evidence and or theories.

    I love the this podcast!!!!
I listen when I’m at work cleaning, makes the otherwise long day go by so fast and enjoyable. Thanks for doing such a great job Ashley.
