Born to Rule: When Charles is King

35

Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8th at the age of 96 years old, months after her Platinum Jubilee, her 70th year as the Queen of the United Kingdom. As the world remembers the longest-reigning monarch, her eldest son Prince Charles is now KING Charles III. It’s the moment he was born destined for – and at 73, he’s been waiting a long time. As one era closes, another one begins. Can Prince Charles fill his mother’s shoes? Will the people accept him as king? Is there even a place for monarchy in our modern world? In Born to Rule, NBC’s Keir Simmons talks to journalists and royal insiders who’ve followed Prince Charles for decades to help us understand this man who is now king.

Keri Simmons! One of the best!
I really like Keri Simmons! He’s not only one of my favourite Royal correspondents but one of my favourite overall journalists!!! Love when he’s on the Today Show! He always makes it fun but is serious when he needs to be! I really enjoyed this podcast and really hope there are more seasons to come! He definitely needs more seasons here on this show but I would love for him to host more of his own royal podcast. Either for NBC or on his own. Either way, I think it would be in one of the top spots in no time! Hey Keri, I hope you or one of the decision-makers see this and/or all the others and start talking about him having his own show/podcast. I would be a day 1 listener!

Appreciated this podcast as presented to an American
I heard about this podcast nearly a year ago but didn’t listen to it until now (April 2023). As an American I was aware of most of the information presented in this podcast. I was unaware, however, of the power of the sovereignty of the British Constitution as presented. I would have hated to be Princess Diana, or even Meghan, and NOT be able to be “the real me.” More power to Harry for being able to live more true to himself (before he met Meghan). Since I didn’t grow up with a monarchy, even though I did attend junior college in western Canada in the early 1970s, I never did see the current, modern need for a monarchy—along side with the British Parliament; duplication of work? But yes, I did stand on the side of to the road in London & saw the carriage/coach pass by when Princess Anne got married in November 1973 … I couldn’t understand all of the gossip afterwards of the clothes/colors the various members of the royal family wore to that wedding — but we have been hearing similar types of gossip with Harry and Meghan living 200+ miles now down the road from me. No one can change the color of one’s skin, yet every other part of each person’s body is nearly the same; why should so much emphasis be placed on the outer surface (skin), than on the inner self (the heart)? Why are we, as individuals or even as a nation, so quick to placing judgment on others due only to others’ skin colors? I have always had great respect for Keir Simmons as a newscaster. Will a second season come out on this soon after Charles III’s coronation on May 6, 2023 and, again, present a British point of view for us Americans? Please do so!

I have always been curious about Great Britain. And now current affairs are explained. Thank you for the podcast. The British people were so impressive alone side the Queen’s Funeral route with Pride and Love for British sense of History and respect for their country’s Queen & Royal Family. Bravo England.

    Wonderful preparation for September 8
I started listening to this podcast sometime in July because it was recommended on the Today Show and because I particularly like reports of Keir Simmons and I wanted something to listen to while gardening. Little did I know that my husband and I would be vacationing and hiking in the Cairngorm Mountains and staying in the little town of Ballater Scotland, next to Balmoral on the day the Queen died. We picked a bouquet of Heather and roadside posies, found a ribbon, and were among the first to lay our flowers at the gate at Balmoral. Many reporters there including one of our favorites from NBC, Richard Engel, but few people. On the day we left for Edinburgh, we stood on the roadside outside our inn and watched the queen’s cortège go by, standing all alone without another soul. We arrived in Edinburgh at exactly the same time as the Queen and had to walk to our hotel with luggage in the rain because of the crowds. And then again, we met up with her last weekend in London where we spent a lot of our time weaving in and out of hordes of her adoring mourners—-miles and miles of them, even a mile long or more line of handicapped mourners in wheelchairs willing to spend the night to pay respects if need be. What we saw was a large population who seemingly adore their royals——-a loud “long live the king” as Charles road by said they are willing to give him a chance. I think if he doesn’t get too wrapped up in the likes of people like Andrew and the tell alls like Meghan and Harry(shame on them) he should survive until Kate and William take over. It was all worth it even though we brought Covid home with us. Bottom line about the podcast: fascinating timely expose. I have listened all over again with new meaning for sure and new understanding. Thank you Keir and others.

    Excellent series
Thank you for your honesty in developing this story. To America the royals held a fascination and Princess Diana will forever be in our hearts. It’s a shame Charles in his early life couldn’t date Camilla. He never got her out of his mind. But then we wouldn’t have gotten to know and love Diana the peoples princess . Looking forward to more royal stories. Hold onto your seats the drama continues here with Harry & Megan.

    Excellent
A highly listenable and well paced series. They defer way too much to meghan and feed into the victim thing but other than that, excellent.

Born To Rule:When Charles Is King
This American Anglophile doesn’t like Charles or his wife, so I don’t listen to this podcast. I play other royalty podcasts.7-27-22.

    Totally Spellbinding
In an age of 10 second TikTok‘s and Snapchat, it’s nice to know there is a show the delves into past current and present topics regarding the Royals. I am completely spellbound and slightly disappointed when the show is over. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but this southern girl enjoys it thoroughly 😉🫖

    Shallow
The usual superficial tabloid fodder. Marriages, talking to plants, “scandals.” This is unequal to this serious person and the really remarkable work he has been doing for decades.

    Pleasantly Surprised
It was delicately balanced, but showed all sides of the Royal Family. Nothing was hidden, yet nothing was deleted from the Royal’s affairs. A very timely perspective of the way it is presently.

Born to Rule-Heir & the Spare
Keir has done such a wonderful job with the series… Should hope he’d be invited to update at least…his craft has shown through to be a true historian telling a story & draws one into that delicious tale. Included so many different people & their thoughts, various interviews. He built such an interesting authentic series, hopefully to be continued…

  • Lfeusahrens
    Great Podcast
Enjoyed the podcast which was well written and narrated. I agree that I am not sure what the fascination is with the royals except they present a world ripe for the imagination. I am sure the reality is much less idyllic.

    Very good podcast
I enjoyed this episode about Prince Charles and the recent scandal, I could do without the commentary from Tom Bower and Carol Malone, those two twits annoyed me, other wise I love Keir’s reporting, keep up the good work.
  • Outnback
    Great series
This gives me a totally new look at Charles and his strong belief in the environment and how he has worked thru adversity for years to make a difference. Kier is an excellent journalist who tells great stories
  • YanktheMike
    So pompous
Not a fan of this host’s style or content.
  • SvhooD3
    Informative and Entertaining
Keir is very good as the moderator, remains neutral and presents the facts while having credible commentators add to the different podcast episode themes.
  • Trailbunn
    Fascinating
Honestly I would listen to anything Keir Simmons says. But this is full of info from a British perspective that I had no idea about, even as a long time royals follower. Cheers, Keir!
  • Urban Angeleno
    Interesting listen
This podcast is a very interesting look into Prince Charles the man rather than the royal.
