Why there’re only ten episodes left on the podcast
I listened to episodes in January and February but now they’re all gone
  • dd123mw
    Awesome podcast
I must get my daily dose of new words and their etymologies from Merriam Webster. Great podcast.

    Great idea
This is great, everything about it👍

    Small suggestion
Great program. The music at the beginning and the end is a bit too loud though. Would be perfect if the volume could be better adjusted.

    Awesome!
    Love these! Keep them coming!

    Dig it
One of my absolute favorites to start the day with! I just wish someone would work on the transition audio between the intro/outro and the narration. Short of that, dope

Podcast has serious issues that can’t be fixed
Recently played episodes will not go hidden and the next episode won’t automatically play. Setting does nothing for this podcast. I am so annoyed that I stop following this show.

Such a great idea for a podcast! And curative way to learn new words

    Too Fast!
I love this podcast but would appreciate it much more if I could slow it down a bit, not the 75% option on the Apple App. My audible app lets me slow down fast readers to about 90% which is perfect.

    Yes, and . . .
I’ve been a loyal listener for a number of years. This was my first podcast each day. I noticed a change in the writing and content a number of months ago. It’s shorter, not as playful, and there’s a dearth of related words. Hope you’ll return to the more interesting format.

    Unfollowed
The commercials seem longer than the stories and occur way too frequently. Goodbye!

Great way to start my day
Thanks for a wonderful podcast. The new music is great. I particularly enjoy the in depth etymology. Peter Sokolowski’s pace is perfect.

    GREAT Podcast BUT
After getting “behind” due to a recent job change and moving, I was extremely disappointed to learn that only the last 10 episodes are available.
  • WWLCA
It’s Coach Jim HARBAUGH, not Harbraugh.
I enjoy the M-W dictionary podcast, and benefit from learning better pronunciations; but, if you are going to embarrass someone by using their name in your example, at least pronounce their name correctly. The brothers who are football coaches share the name Harbaugh. Suggestion: Re-record the segment on schadenfreude. In 2022, in all things, be kind.

Love words, hate advert every 30 seconds. Especially a single advertiser. Is this really necessary?
Please revisit your merchandising schema. Your listener’s tolerance should be paramont.
  • Jonnywalker!
    Too many ads
20 second ads in a 1.5 min podcast is extremely annoying.

oh its a vehicle for ads
    no thanks

    Brilliant
This podcast by Merriam-Webster is the audio version of their Word of the Day email newsletter. Written to educate listeners on a fresh word every day. It covers the word’s meaning, uses over time, origins, and other fun facts about it. I really enjoy queuing a few at the beginning of my day’s feed. All of the contexts for each word makes it really easy to remember them. Even if I know the word, I can still learn something new about it. It might be one of the most useful podcasts I follow. Hosted by Peter Sokolowski the show is 4.4 out of 5 and 933 Ratings. Apple Podcasts only seems to have the latest 10 episodes but through art19.com I was able to find every episode back to the show’s air date on 10/24/2006. Since then, the show has posted a word of the day every single day including holidays for 5,389 three-minute-long episodes total. The pod has had some technical issues in the distant past but have since been cleared up including download issues, mistitled episodes, and uneven volume for intro and ads. The pod is 15 years old, so some growing pains are expected. Ads seem to be the chief complaint among listeners, but I think they’re fine especially if you only listen to one or two a day. Similar Pods: Spectacular Vernacular, The Allusionist, and A Way with Words. For more reviews check out @themastercast on instagram and @mastercastpods on twitter

    Fun way to learn
    Always entertaining and informative.

    Good for what it is
I don’t expect much from a podcast of what amounts to a reading of an entry in the dictionary. However, Webster does give more in ways of linguistic history and related words than expected, which is cool. Fewer adds and less of a penchant for picking words that fit the social agenda of the day would be appreciated.

    Daily dose!
I truly look forward to this every morning 🙃

Do not let the complaints stray you away
I personally love this. I am an aspiring writer and love expanding my vocabulary. They go into every necessary detail of each word and give multiple examples and uses. It’s fantastic, I am so excited for more. Yes there is a single ad in every episode but let’s be honest here. It’s a podcast about 1 word every day. each episode is a couple minutes long at most and the developers need revenue. Don’t listen to the complaints about ads. You’re listening to a free podcast. Learn to live with the ads. Thank you to the team of this show and please never stop!

    Boring, and too many ads.
    Quality, but slightly boring

    Love it
I’ve been working on reading (listening) to books more in my free time and it is so nice to hear a word defined that I’ve never heard before and then a week or so later come across it in a book and already know what it means. Keep up the good work 😊

    Good little podcast
    Good but too many ads.

    Add to your word horde!
This is a really engaging podcast and a great way to add to your word horde! I really enjoy the content and continue to learn a lot. Thank you, Merriam Webster!

Peter Sokolowski has the most comforting voice, it’s lovely.

    Meh 😑🤓
I don’t care about who the Webster Dictionary company is trying to appease. As a 28 year old blossoming writer who attended 6 months of college after graduating from high school in 2010, before determining college wasn’t for me, I simply want to expand my knowledge on my own. It seems I learn better that way. I have a better idea of how this world works. I just needed a way to improve my vocabulary. Let them do what they want, as long as I can learn better words to replace the less descriptive words I’m fine. Besides I spent my time reading an old non Webster dictionary and there not much different.

    I love this podcast
    It is great
  • ItsoverWebster
    Meaningless
When people express an opinion about a word and Webster’s instantly changes the definition because of that opinion, it removes itself from the list of credible sources.
  • otionstem
    Webster’s gone woke
How can I trust this company when they change the meaning of words to appease leftists. Sad, I’m unsubscribing.
  • Curbside Affair
    A daily dose of knowledge
Love this quick podcast to deepen and enhance my vocabulary. I only wish the first and LAST thing I heard was the word and it’s definition. My HS kids listen as well to at the very least be familiar with ACTUAL words. I especially love the History of the word. Thanks again
  • 泰书华
absolutely perfect minus one big detail
please DO NOT turn the volume up at the beginning. most podcast are consumed with headphones. headphones are finely adjusted and close to delicate organs. please keep your intro at the same volume!
  • I live for dragons
    No.
I don’t like it. It’s boring and goes way too fast and is confusing

    I like it
I mean they take time out of their day to to do this podcast but really!? Can’t they do one every day?!
  • ihjaoanuanaksna
    Sad
I can not believe that they are literally changing the meaning of words for political purposes. A very sad day for literacy. I will definitely be unsubscribing.

could you not break one syllable when pronouncing a word?
Peter, could you not break one syllable when pronouncing a word? like longueur, it's better if you can say "lon", "gueur". Palmy, "pal", "my". Much easier for listeners to memorize.
  • MaryJ75024
    Burn calories, build vocabulary
I love to roll through a couple of these at the start of my walk. Especially appreciate the context and the word origins, which make it easier to remember the words later. I’m familiar with many of these words but I still learn a little something with each episode. Thank you, M-W!
  • ElimiNathan
    Not overdone
It gives a little bit of context and a word that tends not to be over used.
  • arienthebuglady
    Daily etymology hit
Just the right amount of vocabulary for the discriminating word nerd
  • Ekaterina Koposova
    Terrific!
    An immediate favorite!
  • ThoughtfulSoul
    Concise and insightful
I really enjoy this podcast! Don’t be lily-livered - listen to this and expand your vocabulary. Even for words I’m familiar with, I learn something I didn’t know (like the origin of White Elephant!)
  • abcdefggfedcba
    Content-to-advertisement ratio is unbearable
I'm out. I can't take it anymore. 25-30% of this podcast is advertising. It's a magnitude higher than it should be.
  • 74653280
    Ad of the day
I can look up the definition long before the intro ad is over. Advertisers ruin everything.
  • Land on this
The best drug out there is a steady learning experience.
I honestly can’t get enough. I find myself repeating what I thought I could have embraced more. It’s an opportunity to be enlightened. I get to know little gems about culture, history, and life that are treasures for the mind. If I didn’t pick up the word for the day immediately, it is often used shortly after on another day. I feel like I’m getting to hang out with Aristotle, Plato, and you. Thank you, Vaniar Lander

    Something is missing
I can’t find past episodes. I want to listen to those episodes. Is there anyway?
