How Other Dads Dad with Hamish Blake

Hamish Blake chats with other dads he really admires (and whose phone number he had relatively easy access to) about their approach to dadding, and in the process hopefully learn a little, steal some of their hard earned wisdom and help us all dad a tiny bit better.

    Dad To Be
I recently found out we’d finally be parents and am taking a queue from my own dad and finding anything I can about dadding. I really appreciate a podcast that isn’t fully comedic and focuses on the sentimental and on the learning moments. I’m only partway through the first season but I already love it. Edit: I’m through every single episode and I’m about to start my second listen through. One note from an American listener: I do appreciate the backgrounds on who each person is because, despite being pretty plugged into world events, I’m apparently underexposed to Australian culture.

    From a new Dad
I've never laughed and cried all in the same podcast. A spectacular emotional roller coaster that gives beautiful insights into the priorities of being a parent. Absolutely loved it!!

    Great insight into Dadhood
As an Aussie living in America I like to still try to instill some of the get get em attitude we have back home into my son. It’s great chats, hints, tips, tricks and some definite don’t do’s. All in a lighthearted manner. It’s great listening to something that has humor and great conversation that I can then walk away from feeling like I usually learned a different way of thinking or trying something. Coverall great show!

Good convos that become “fatigue porn”
Rare to have a show focused on dads that’s not drowning in traditional masculinity or a “bro” ethos. This is a distinctly Australian show and others will be lost on the guests or references to Australian culture. My only gripe is that after a few episodes it falls into a thing parents often do which is wallow and celebrate the fatigue you face as a parent. It becomes a bit draining to listen to the constant chuckling/complaining over how tired parents are. I think we get it! Ironically I think I enjoyed the season finale best, where an expert could give context and insight into some of the platitudes the guests share (generally “it’s a ton of tiring work but I love it”).

    Valuable and full of Virtue
I am a granny that listens to this show in America and I am spellbound by every episode. The wisdom and virtue which is shared by the guests that Hamish has chosen is remarkable. Listening to this podcast is a gift. As one reflects on their own parenting journey and as so many commence theirs, I highly recommend this podcast for fathers, mothers, grandparents. There is something to glean for everyone.
