Not Quite Dead

As an A&E nurse, Alfie deals with horror everyday, but almost being killed by a walking corpse and being saved by a vampire takes things a bit far, even for him. The vampire is Casper. He’s hundreds of years old, and hell-bent on finding out what's causing walking corpses to wander the streets of Alfie's hometown.

Now they've met, Alfie and Casper can't seem to leave each other alone, despite their best efforts. Alfie learns that the relationship between vampires and humans is more complicated than just predator and prey. Whatever Casper's misgivings about his own kind, and himself, Alfie is inexorably drawn closer and closer, in a heady, carnal blend of horror, hunger, love and lust.

Not Quite Dead is a (mostly) single narrator gory horror romance audio drama exploring themes of identity, sexuality and death. Totalling 40 episodes over 3 completed seasons, with S4 on the way in 2025.

This show is part of the Rusty Quill Network, and is created independently by Eira Major (AKA Hanging Sloth) who writes, sound designs, and performs as Alfie and Neige.

    Not Quite Great
This is a cool and original take on vampires. Lots lf interesting things at play that keep me listening. The supporting characters are fantastic. What holds it back from being a great show is, ironically, the point-of-view character. I wish I were hearing this story from anyone other than Alfie. Even in season 1, he’s whiny, but circumstances are understandable. But as the plot goes on, he doubles down. There’s a lot of juicy, complex angst happening in the story, and Alfie is incapable of processing any of it like an adult. Instead he’s petty, immature, shallow, selfish and inarticulate. He throws tantrums instead of communicating his feelings. He doesn’t seem to understand other characters have their own feelings and baggage. There’s a well of potential, but listeners are stuck with Alfie’s Bad Takes. It really knocks the story down a peg, and it’s very frustrating.

    Excellent!
10/10! Cannot say enough good things about this show. It’s got the horror; it’s got all of the feelings; you’ll fall head over heels for the characters; and it puts some great new twists on the vampire legend that are fresh, intelligent and interesting. The world building makes you feel like you’re there. And the spice level is very nice.

Legit my favourite vampire romance fiction in any medium
I adore this show. Literally the only issue I have is the volume mixing. It’s soooooo quiet! If there’s anything going on around me, like driving or dishes, I have a very hard time hearing it, and sometimes just straight up can’t. This is an issue I’ve run into with other Rusty Quill shows, but never to this degree. But I’m absolutely hooked, and can’t wait for more!
