From Taipei, with LoveLike “Know Your Enemy” without all that pesky book learnin’, erudition, and insight. This is for those who want vindication and commiseration more than understanding. That said, here as there, the friendship has cute moments. And the books themselves, as well as Peter in particular, are quite funny. I would put this in the podcast junk food section. Fine in moderation.

Die FemmeNot Lesbian…still listening. Thanks guys, for saving me from reading books with more pages than substance. Some books should’ve been tweets and I’m glad you tell us which.

89concernedcitizen89Everything is subscribers only now :/I understand you gotta make money, but it’s always sad when something you looked forward to tuning into says it’s been updated, but each time you get your hopes up to find out it is just for paying subscribers. There was a time when all podcasts were free. Goodbye, good times. “That’s how we make money!” Sure. Subscription fees aren’t the end of humanity. Sure. Loved u. xox RIP

shaesaidLessons in critical thinkingI love this podcast. It’s funny, engaging, and is really a “how to” manual for critical thinking. I love that even as Michael and Peter dissect a book, they can point out an idea or passage that has merit and then talk about how the idea could have been investigated and interrogated more completely. I am laughing and also getting ever so slightly better at recognizing what makes good (and very weak) storytelling evidence. Annoyingly, I now talk about this podcast every day to whoever will listen.

AdrielMTBe the nerds!Good podcasts; hosts have the right (genuinely left) political impulses. But in this political moment, I didn’t like the Hegel hate just bc Hegel is difficult (Fukayama ep). Be the nerds: embrace Hegel! Even if Fukayama was wrong. (And oh, bc you wanted to know: not a lesbian 😉.)

Hollywoodnun45 Years Old and Still StraightBeen listening since the show’s debut (I’m from the Michaelverse of podcasts). I love the show. It’s number one for snark, smarts, and the camaraderie between Peter and Michael is insanely charming. My only problem with it is I’m still not a lesbian. How long do I listen before I start seeing results?
-
widelinaThis show made me a lesbianI was proudly bisexual before this show, now I am saving up to buy a used Subaru and shopping for land with a woman who owns 5 dogs that I met at REI last weekend. Thank you for helping me figure out who I am.

YovomoloThe best podcastIf you guys stop making episodes I fear I’ll never clean my house again. Seriously though this podcast is so refreshing, funny, and original. May I add a recommendation, “Don’t believe everything you think” By Joseph Nguyen. Would love to hear your thoughts! Also, not a lesbian. Hahah

Fury1234Thank you for speaking on behalf of women everywhereWhat a hidden gem I’ve stumbled upon. So far I’ve listened to “Let Them”, “Lean In” and now “Atomic Habits”. Comedy gold! Thank you for your service! Sincerely, A straight white woman in her late 30s

Incessant podcast consumerLet go and let Peter and MichaelCurrently listening to the Mel Robbins episode and felt the need to let Peter and Michael know I did not get the gambling reference nor the Queen Amigdala reference. I’m assuming it has to do with Star Wars based on context clues. This is also coming from a straight 24 year old white woman. Ive never given a podcast review but I felt compelled by Michael’s request. Anywho, love the podcast and I never miss an episode!
-
aorist9Let Michael make Star Wars punsLoved the Queen Amigdala joke. Keep it up

1legatatimeStraight White Male HereOne of my favorite podcasts. Each one is fantastic. Love the banter and nerd references

ChaplainLeighA Great ListenI was a fan of You’re Wrong About and have followed Michael Hobbes since then. This podcast is very entertaining and manages to articulate complexity. The original idea was a great one, I feel like they sort of gave up on it and have moved on to more obscure books, which is a bummer. But the hosts are funny, intelligent, and do a great job editing the show.
-
Arabellaaaaso funny, so informativeMy absolute favorite podcast! Super informative, and definitely the funniest. Peter knockoffs should please see themselves to my DMs.
-
Michael Showalters Evil Twinyes pleasewish i could listen to the catalogue again for the first time. happy subscriber - work the money.

KE CreativeI could listen to Michael and Peter read a cookbookThe worst part about this podcast is the snarky comments that catch you off guard so you guffaw randomly in public, much to the chagrin of innocent bystanders. But seriously, the worst part about this podcast is that they don’t release an episode daily so I get my fix. Mkay fine, clearly I’m a fanboy. But seriously, I hope they never stop.
-
hwpwPainfully misogynisticPeter seems to love calling women sluts. He also seems to think it’s chill because he means it “lovingly”?? But this guy gives major “angry meltdown if you sexually reject him despite him telling you he’s a feminist.” Take a drink every time Peter makes fun of his wife or says the word p**sy. Michael’s blind spots when it comes to women are enormous. Also, joking that Jay Z probably can’t read?!? This feels like a perfect indictment of what passes for critical analysis among an incredibly blinkered subset of self-important “progressive” dudes. Woof.

Jenna.lwbLOLs AboundPeter + Michael are my funniest, smartest friends. “The Game” is my fav podcast episode of all time - but honestly every episode is golden.
-
Beach125Anxious generationDo either of you have kids? If so, are they in elementary school/middle school?! While you’re in it - your views may be different and may not laugh it all off. And did appreciate a lot of your insight and research!

madamekoThis podcastis the one I drop all other pods for as soon as it pops into my feed. It always entertains me but, right now, it is keeping me from raging in the streets. Mostly. I mean, I’m still raging in the streets occasionally but that is just what democracy looks like.

itsmecasey!BestCry laughing. Thank you.

-
AnonymeanonVery entertainingThis is entertaining! For listeners: I find it funny to pair this podcast with the earlier episodes of “how to be fine”, where they actually live by these books for a period and report back about how it went.

VanagunkyAmazingI laugh way to hard while listening to this pod. The hosts are amazing. Always witty, hilarious, and well spoken.
-
queueaGiving bad books reason to existLove the hosts and am truly amazed how many of these books come down to nonsense conservative vibes and talking points.
-
Rosalie FEA must-listenIn these trying times my parasocial relationship with the extended Hobbes-and-Shamshiri-verse (IBCK, MP, 5-4) is all that’s holding me together. If you’re also a queer person with a law degree you will probably feel the same. Join the Patreon, it’s worth it!
-
SCCampau🤠Thank you! So happy to expand my lesbian vocab!
-
RayDavis75So Much FunI have never purchased a subscription to any podcast before. These two are so funny and I look forward to every new episode. So much fun.
-
Sandio58Monthly Fee Too HighI enjoy the content and listen to a lot of Podcasts. Now, very little free content. I do pay for two other podcasts that each cost $2.99 per month. A leap to $4.99 is too much if listeners want to listen to other podcasts. Please consider lowering the cost.
-
VileMayorGotta Stop Following Michael HobbesHe makes great podcast but he gives up on them and leaves the listeners hanging. Started with You’re Wrong About which he just quit. Maintenance Phase has a slow to nonexistent release schedule and now it’s happening here too. I have to patreoned 2 out of 3 but I’m done getting invested in Hobbes’ projects.
-
TrueCrimeTartareDEI 2 deserves PulitzerThink what you want but this show does the work. The depth of research in that episode puts all other coverage to shame.
-
ClapperGalLove the InsightI stumble upon this podcast. The two folks have such a great banter. They’re very insightful with the information they provide outside of the book and analysis. Totally recommend.

BobDoleGoesToSpaceCampMocking just to mockI like Peter on 5-4 a lot, but these episodes often showcase that he doesn’t know much outside of law, though shows the same level of confidence for his opinions. The podcast is just them ranting and complaining (though perhaps that’s the podcast’s obvious reason for existing), and I find it tiring. They mock authors for not knowing what they’re talking about (perhaps often fair), but they also don’t seem to know what they’re talking about - they tend to present things in a way that makes them sound ridiculous so that they can mock them, when they themselves don’t seem to have the correct context or know what the science says.
