The Flop House

Comedy #178

The Flop House is a comedy podcast devoted to the worst in recent film. Your hosts (Elliott Kalan, Dan McCoy, and Stuart Wellington) watch a questionable film, then engage in an unscripted discussion about the movie's shortcomings and occasional delights, while never being afraid of a pointless, silly digression or two hundred.

They watch bad movies so you don’t have to
Years-long listener who loves this often silly, sometimes heartfelt, always witty show. Stuart, and Dan are best friends who know movies (good, bad, and terrible) and care about each other even more than they care about comedy. I’m a lady who doesn’t spend time on Marvel, the other one, video games, action, or horror, but will happily listen to the Peaches bantering about all of the above. It’s some combination of familiarity, discovery, and appreciation for vulnerable (yet roasting) male camaraderie. I’m always extra psyched when they watch something I’d actually be likely to see, or have a guest on who’s not a millennial white guy. Still, they all have such different personalities and perspectives that we get to see each movie from multiple angles. The Flop House is a reliable treat for the whole family (of adults).

    rEALLY REALLy like it
It’s the best when they talk about a movie I’ve seen. They are amazing live

    Weekly listener since 2018
This is a show made by 3 very different cohosts who love movies - all movies, especially but not exclusively genre flicks, and especially the really good and REALLY TERRIBLE ones. They are very funny, have great chemistry and they also have encyclopedic knowledge of film history and film lore. Can’t get enough of it!

    Love this show
I am a longtime listener, and I enjoy it more all the time. One of the last events I went to before the pandemic was a live Flophouse show, it was great!

F is for flop house, A is for its grade
Hilarious and charming. Dunno why they are collectively called peaches. I recommend you start with any episode where they review a movie you have seen.

    Funny
I’m dealing with an embarrassing medical problem right now and can’t sleep, so my first instinct is listen to the Flop House. For some reason I find the combination of Dan and Stuart’s dulcet tones along with Elliott’s incessant barrage of words to be soothing. I’ve listened to most episodes several times and still think it’s funny… Except for the Elliott’s songs, but the rest of the show makes up for that. Thanks for years of entertainment, guys.

    Loved it for years
I could say a lot of great things about the Flop House, but all I can think about now are the incredibly catchy Dune musical proposals from the last mini episode. Normally I would say my favorite “treat” episodes are the bonus Flop Tales with Zhubin Parang and all Hallie Haglund episodes- but now I think it will always be space guild pilots singing about flying for CHOAM. I’m ready to invest! Oh wait, I already have, for a long time. Love you guys, thanks for what you do.

A Baliset Player on the Sietch
Eliott’s mashup of Dune with Fiddler on the Roof is the single funniest episode of a podcast I have ever heard. I laughed so hard I cried. I played it for my wife and she laughed. I then played it for my kids, and they rolled their eyes at me, but also laughed.

No More Tom Brokaw, I Beg Of You
Highly recommended comedy podcast. A regular feature in my pod listening regimen. Would you all please join me in decrying the abominating waste that is co-host Elliot Kalan’s impression of retired NBC newsman Tom Brokaw? We must band together at this critical juncture to see that the erring Flop House participant desists from this unwanted practice. I believe there is still a chance for the show to be salvaged as I implore Mr. Kalan to turn back from this comedy killing malfeasance. If we, the listeners, register our collective distaste of this upsetting trend perhaps we can restore the virtue this long running and cherished program has carried itself with for most of its existence. Here’s to Dan and Stu🍻whom it appears have maintained their sense of integrity and decorum through this challenging period. I put it to the two of you also, reign in your wayward Flop House colleague in whatever form of chastisement and discipline you deem effective to thwart his shocking affront to the comedic art. I know I am not alone in my feelings on this matter. May we stand as one against this threatening tide as we optimistically face ahead with the blazing hope that this Flop House ship is expeditiously set back onto its otherwise impeccable course.🩴🏠🚢🫡

Hilarious comforting classic podcast with unpredictable creativity

    Hilarious and heart warming
I’ve been listening to the flop house for over ten years now and it continues to make me laugh and teach me about movies every week. The chemistry between the hosts makes you feel like you’re hanging with some friends, which is very comforting. I’m not even a movie nerd and rarely watch bad movies, but love this podcast anyway - if you even vaguely enjoy movies and comedy, you’ll love this podcast.

    One of my Favorites
Fantastic podcast that cracks me up, literally making me open my mouth and laugh (sometimes wheeze-laugh uncontrollably). Good cross between smart-dumb and dumb-dumb jokes. Behold the staying power of this Bad Movie Podcast, from the time when you where done either a comedian, bad movie podcast, or Dan Carlin. Excellent show full of jokes that will infect your life unless of a dastardly team-up between 7 Pounds and The Contest Ruiner steals them. Realized I had not reviewed in all this time so went to it!

    Hilarious
I started listening last year and The Flop House’s humor and interesting commentary has kept me going in times of transition. I really appreciate that these guys highlight the positives of flop movies when they’re present, giving kudos to, e.g., makeup artists or special effects even when the script is rough. The commentary is funny but doesn’t feel mean-spirited!

Funny friends chatting about bad movies
I listen to podcasts when I am otherwise occupied, and this podcast is reliably good and one of the few where I listen to all the episodes. All three hosts are funny, and are quick witted. Best episode: Cats the movie.

    Realized I have never rated
I’ve been listening for about 5 years and I’m a max fun donor and I realized have never rated the podcast! Love these peaches. The flop house is literally my favorite podcast. ❤️

    A True Happy Place
Listening to these three friends synopsize “bad” movies or play games with little to no rules or structure in off weeks is something I look forward to. Are they insightful? Yes. Are they funny? Yes. Do they do the work of sitting through the bad movies so I can listen to them talk about it while I do dishes and laundry? Yes.

Essential listening if you love movies (and laughing)
The Flop House is the only podcast I listen to, and I listen almost every day. They don’t just savage movies, they actually have great insights into how all movies could be better. The hosts are funny — literally laugh-out-loud funny — and their hilarious interplay lets you get to know them as people. They also recommend movies they like and that has expanded my enjoyment of film. Seriously, listen and you’ll want to subscribe and support.

    Protect Stuart at all costs
But truly this show is a standard for me. Love the Peaches!

    The best podcast
I’ve been listening since the Oogieloves episode (10 years!) and cannot begin to express how great this podcast is. Dan, Stuart, and Elliott are an essential part of every week. I love their wit, insight, and decency. It’s the only podcast I’ve stuck with for this long. Thank you floppers!

Number 1 Podcast for All Your Nonsense Needs
Hilarious without being mean spirited... at least not to people who aren't Dan. Elliott's songs and remixes are always stuck in my head. Especially That's How It Works and the Rocket Crocodile song. The best part is when they just hang out and don't talk about the movie... which is most of the podcast. I'm giving it 5 out of 5 amazings. Update: over a decade and hundreds of episodes in and the boys still got it. They’ve grown and they’re still silly and delightful but their thoughtful takes are also incredibly nuanced. 10 out of 10 amazings. Also team make Hallie Haglund star of the show always.

    The BEST of the BEST!
I love these guys soooo much! They remind me of spending time with old friends and just talking about nonsense and laughing until you cry. The kind of friends you can just be completely yourself with. I’ve been listening for years and still eagerly await each new episode. I love the regular episodes where they talk about movies and the minis where they talk about whatever. I’m just happy to be spending more time laughing with my guys!

    Hilarious buddies
Hilarious and heart-warming to hear these friends have such fun each week. My favorite podcast by far.
  • jsnell
Impossibly funny, you don’t regret it
Lots of people like watching bad movies. And even talking about bad movies. The difference here is that these three guys are incredibly funny -- when talking about the bad movies and when on wild tangents unrelated to the bad movies. It's no wonder that these fellows are professional comedians and comedy writers. Their quick wits and amazing pop culture knowledge make this one of the funniest podcasts I've ever listened to. And as a podcast host myself, I understand Dan's frustration when Elliot and Stuart (and sometimes Hallie!!!) JUST WON'T GET TO THE NEXT SEGMENT. Keep on fighting the power, Dan.
  • Laskers
    Funny, light, fascinating
    Genuinely funny and insightful commentary.
  • Obsessed with nonsense
There’s no show I anticipate more fervently than the Flophouse
Come for the jokes. Stay for the amazing movie recs and Elliott’s singing. No really.
  • Zorpo
    Great!
I resisted listening to this podcast for so long because I was a regular listener to HDTGM, and I just didn’t think I could listen to TWO bad movies podcasts. That was dumb. This podcast is great and a find easy listen. Really one of the podcasts I most look forward to each week.

    Helped me love movies again
The Flop House has been a weekly listen for me for almost a decade now, and my appreciation for the hosts and the show has only grown since. Dan, Stu and Elliot have great chemistry as just three funny friends talking about bad movies, but also bring their unique tastes and insight into each episode. I’ve discovered a lot of movies and genres from them that I wouldn’t have paid attention to otherwise. Give it a listen!!! PS: The mini eps are always a hit, and I love that they're not actually mini ;)
  • Hotdoghed
    Great listen
Love these guys. I don’t enjoy watching bad movies but quite enjoy the flophouse talking about them. They have been on a roll lately. The Cool as Ice and Cobra live shows made me laugh out loud while walking around outside, like an idiot. If only they would come to Maine!!
  • Worldwidecox
    One of the best
Whip-smart film criticism and theory under the veneer of a “bad movie” podcast. Thoughtful while still being hilarious, and charming without being cloying. Easily the best thing on their network, by a country mile, and an all-time top five film podcast.
  • Treyfe
    Still flopping
I’ve been listening for like a decade and I just wanted to share how moved I was by the recent Cat Person ep where guest star Hallie got them to really interrogate their reaction that was both sweet and hilarious
  • Tummyache_aus
    Love these guys*

    Always a delight
The chemistry, friendship and wit of these three fellows never ceases to bring me joy! The sad excuse for movies that they discuss each episode become a source of joy and jokes - a maze of broad humor and esoteric references. The layers of entertainment knows no bounds!

    years long listener
as these things go, i’ve been listening to the peaches for 5+ years and I thought I had rated and reviewed the podcast and realized I didn’t during the latest episode (cat person 3/9/24). the peaches have been a stalwart presence in my life and an example of positive male relationships (I am a cis woman—this is largely alien to me). I also appreciate halley’s unique voice when it comes through. I am so desperate for the peaches to come to chicago I once emailed dan about helping them book a show when I was a naive grad student and he was SO GRACIOUS about it. there is no try, only do when it comes to listening to this pod and letting it be part of your parasocial friendships.

    Amazing show
I’ve listened to the show since the beginning and have loved hearing The Peaches every Saturday for what seems like forever. I truly cannot recommend this podcast enough. And, I truly LOVE their politics! That last sentence is not a bit.

    Thoughtful comedic movie review
Very funny. A nice escape that isn’t pretentious or just picking on small movies. Hosts have a great interaction. Good inside jokes.
  • BenjaminAhr
    I love this show!
Appointment listening for me. It’s rare that I’ve seen the films being reviewed, but these funny dudes make it a compelling, insightful, and laugh-out-loud while I’m walking my dog funny show.
  • Uselessdave
Fun movie chat with some fun funny folks
This is a silly podcast about bad movies with 3 cohosts and often with special guests. They both love good movies and find a way to say something unique about bad movies. Enjoy!
  • Batsoup
    The best podcast
I’ve been a long-time listener, so I’m confident putting this in the written record: the Flop House is THE best podcast. It does not matter what movie is the subject, or if the boys spend any time discussing it… the hosts are clearly enjoying themselves, each other and their irreverent conversation - if not the “movie” watched, which is mostly a mcguffin, at most a springboard into pure joyful silliness. The world need more silly!

    Always Delivers
Consistently funny—the Peaches deliver an hour or more of laughs every week.

    Still a show about butts
Dirty Dan McCoy, Stuart WellingTown and Elliott (2 T’s) Kalan are still at it, outlasting multiple presidential administrations, pandemics and Daily Show hosts. Come for the hilarious movie reviews and stay for the Warhammer. Wait what?
  • Jill Lloyd Flanagan
    Pioneering movie humor podcast
This is one of the first podcasts I ever got into and it’s still hilarious and in fact has gotten funnier as the hosts mature. All three are very smart people who enjoy acting really stupid. There’s a lot of bad movie podcasts but they did it first and for my money are a lot more thoughtful and intelligent than most.

The polarizing stuff is my favorite
Everything isn’t for everyone, but all the stuff in this podcast that is most profoundly Not for everyone is decidedly for me. Thanks for being y’all and doing what you do best, individually and together.

Letter: How do I write a review?
How do I write a letter, and how do I review your podcast on Apple Podcasts or Overcast or whatever? I always hear people’s letters, and lately you’ve asked us to rate and review you on Apple Podcasts, but maybe you can tell us how to do those things? Thanks, Matt… Last Name Withheld

Kangaroo Jack was the last straw
So many unfunny interruptions. There’s banter, and there’s “one host thinks he is much funnier than he is and feels the need to interrupt constantly.”
  • A. Drew
Never been so grateful to have ears.
How are these guys so funny? I’ve binged every episode twice. I don’t watch movies, but I like laughing, so this is basically the best piece of audio entertainment I’ve ever come across.

Witty cinema goofs for your commute
I’ve listened to the Floppers cover the best of schlock cinema for nearly a decade, and their clever banter still makes me snort-laugh in public. If you’re a fan of bad movies, pop culture, or just enjoy hearing enthusiasts talk about what they love, I’d recommend the Flop House in a heartbeat.

The podcast I look forward to every week
A bad movie podcast where it never feels like they are punching down. It’s the funniest show out there, consistently high quality.
  • HappyKingTears
    My favorite podcast
I honestly can’t believe I haven’t written a review already. I’ve been listening to the Flophouse every week since 2016. The boys crack me up and help me relax. FlopTV, the movie commentaries, I love it all.
  • SashaEZ
Genuinely look forward to every episode.
I discovered this show through Jordan Jesse Go when Elliott Kalan was a guest. I was laughing so hard, I had to check out this pod cast. Holy smokes, not only do I laugh throughout each episode, but the back catalog can be enjoyed thoroughly.
