    Great podcast!
Just discovered this podcast and I love it! Very informative, I’ve been canning about 10 years and I’ve learned a few things.
  • Winterfuzz55
    Easy to hear
But...why does it need TWO intros?? It’s annoyingly redundant. Some Good tips. Could lose all the music as well. Wanders off canning topics constantly which is his right, but should change the name of the podcast. Wish was just about canning.
  • Retired finally!
    Loved this podcast.
Excellent podcast. Professionally done, entertaining and informative. So sorry to find it stopped in 2020. Hope John is well and just taking a break from podcasting. Come back, please!

    Canning Season
Thank You for providing the info I had been searching for on the science behind canning. My science mind enjoys having the facts that you and your guests provided. Happy canning! From a fellow Minnesotan.

I was making strawberry jam for the first time yesterday and wanted to listen to some tips and tricks. This podcast was really wonderful. I hope more are made 😊

    So informative!
I really love John’s podcast. He breaks it down and makes it easy for beginner canners. I am listening to all of the old shows now and I hope he keeps making new ones!

    So glad you are back!
I just saw my review back from when you just started in 2012 (?) and the same accolades hold true for your come back! Thrilled that you are back. I have worn out my iPhone from listening to all of your back issues. I credit you and the Canning Diva for my deeper dive into canning. Thank you, John! So sorry to hear about the loss of your sweet pup. Keep on podcasting and canning! Cathy Girard Anchorage, Alaska

    I love your Podcast!
I’m so excited to get back into canning and love your show. I was able to put in a big garden this year and I’m starting to preserve after a several year hiatus! It’s fun listening to your show while I’m in the kitchen canning - thank you!!!

    Great for beginners!
John really makes sure he and his guests explain things in such a way that the new canner can follow along and understand. Sometimes people will explain things as if everyone knows all of the terminology and procedures, he really makes sure to stop and explain so everyone can follow along.

    Very Nice John!
Well done John. The Mulled Apple Cider Jelly is a hit and 4 ounce jar was paid back with a pint of Wild Florida Muscadine Grape jelly. The apples prepared for sauce and soon will be ready for the shelf. Thanks John. Where did you go?

Package with concrete, truly useful information
I love this podcast... it's not tons of fluff- I have other podcasts I listen to where I could easily skip the first and last ten minutes without missing anything about the actual subject matter- but this one is just packed with interesting, helpful information. I also love that it gives information for both new and experienced canners, and explains everything (like terminology) clearly.
  • Surprise listener
I don't know why this is on my phone
This podcast appeared randomly on my phone after I restored it from a backup. Pretty good, easy to listen to, but the host can get very sidetracked.

    Love it.
I just discovered your podcast. I have helped my mother can when I was younger. I have since moved a good distance from my mother and have started canning myself. I have always loved to can and when I found your podcast I was so excited. Thank you so much.

    great information~!
I love your podcast. I have just found your show and love it. I am in my early 50s and first starting canning with my mother in the early 70s. That mainly consisted of doing the prep work. I then canned on my own as a new bride and mother in my early 20s. It is now time for me to teach my son and daughter in law how to can and I have told them about you. Thanks so much for your uplift and inspiring podcasts they can listen to. I am looking forward to listening to all of your podcasts.

    Canning Awesome!
Im researching a lot before I start canning and this podcast is a GREAT resource!
  • ADykes
Great info about a great topic.
I stumbled across this podcast while looking for something to listen to while working on the electron microscope at work. I have been canning since I learned it from my grandma, and would help her back when I was in high school. I guess that makes it 23 years now. These discussions bring back memories of those days. The art of preserving food by canning, drying, or pickling is something everyone should know. Even if you don't need to preserve or store foods, these processes can make something magical out of something ordinary! All the mistakes and tips discussed here are great to learn from. Keep up the good work! -Rob (Los Gatos, CA)

    Great podcast!
I have listened since the beginning and it is helpful from season to season because it gives you a mental reminder of what has to happen from beginning to the end of the canning process. Plus I like John's little touches! Thanks John!

    Infomative and entertaining
Still loving your podcasts! I listen to them while I am driving or while I am home canning, it's like having a canning buddy. I have taken the leap and started pressure canning meals in a jar. I enjoy your guest speakers and like hearing about what you've been up to as well as Philly! Keep up the good work!

    Awesome Podcast!
I can't say enough about how informative this podcast is. I learn something new every episode. He is always upbeat, and keeps safety a first priority. Plus, he's a guy, and makes it ok for a man like me who is forced to stay at home and do the cooking to do it well. Keep up the good work, John Gavin.

    Excellent Podcast!
I love listening to podcasts while I wash dishes. This is, by far, my favorite podcast! I love canning and I think it's great that John is bringing more awareness to this art! Websites are wonderful, but there is something more personal about hearing someone talk. Thanks for a great podcast, John, and for sharing the abundance!

Informative and Fun To Listen To
John shares helpful food preserving information, tips and recipes. His presentation style is very well done and he is enjoyable to listen to. I appreciate that his focus is on helping his listeners become better at preserving food and not making money. I'm an experienced home canner but I learn something in every podcast. Thanks John!
  • Natureboy68
If you can, you must listen!
excellent, thorough description of canning and how to’s, not doomsday prepare, but more homesteading…I like it!
  • knittyflower
    Wonderful podcast
I discovered this podcast about a week ago when a friend recommended it. I listened to the first eight podcasts back-to-back. I appreciate how professionally put together this podcast is. John is a wonderful host. I can hear how enthusiastic he is about food preservation and home canning. I enjoy hearing about his canning successes and how he takes the not-so-successes in stride. I have been home canning for six years or so and have learned a few tips and tricks from John. The personal anecdotes are a wonderful touch as well. He has a great website to go with the podcast as well.
  • Mmmkaaayyy

I'm finally starting canning and this station is full of great ideas and advice.
