SleepywildcatVery honest and practicalWhile staying close to the origins of stoicism, Chris fully and honestly addresses us moderns fro a place of recognition and resonance. Some parts of traditional stoicism sound grating to modern ears until your hear them as the ancients meant them. Chris Fisher experienced this himself, as he details, and is a steady guide past that. The podcast is invaluable to me. I am deeply appreciative of the work that has gone into it and appreciate it regularly.

True ShadowsThis Podcast Is FireThis is perhaps the most impactful podcast I have ever listened to. Chris Fisher’s passionate essays and enlightening conversations about Traditional Stoicism opened me up to a Providentially Cosmos. In my mid thirties I am learning there is a flavor of religious philosophy that deeply moves me and has helped me turn my life around. Logos /Nature / God / Gods / Zeus / The All feels closer than ever, thank you Chris for opening me up to something I didn’t know I needed. Ten Star Podcast.

Nativeroot513Wanted to appreciate this…But episode after episode eventually became about the hosts take on religion. There’s so much more to Stoicism to focus on but he just couldn’t seem to move on. Even then I could have seen at as just something about him one deals with, but at some point he made comments about how there’s no way that Marco Piggliucci will remain a Stoic because he’s an atheist. I find this completely inappropriate - don’t yuck someone else’s yum, just mind your own business, yeah? Especially when speaking of something you have no way of knowing anything about (incidentally, breaking the Stoic rule against gossip). That’s when I tapped out and found a much better podcast called The Stoic Coffee Break, where the host takes himself far less seriously and actually covers the wide breadth of Stoic topics am while applying them to daily life. I’d recommend going there and saving yourself this experience, personally.

MAYWISCThought-Provoking and InspiringI just finished listing to Episode 63. This was so well done. If you’re looking for content related to Stoicism as a spiritual outlook and practice, these podcasts are for you. Thank you, Chris!

Hutch1904Excellent PodcastThis is an excellent podcast on Traditional Stoicism. The podcast introduces and dissects the foundational elements of ancient Stoicism in plain language and brings them alive today. Very well done.

DjC0ne.23Excellent Overview of Stoic Theory & PracticeChris Fisher weaves in all the core elements that define traditional stoicism and its practice, drawing from the quotes and arguments of Seneca, Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius, and other ancient sources. He highlights important aspects often overlooked by the popular modern authors, emphasizing the importance of the Stoic worldview in a “providential cosmos” and of maintaining a sense of gratitude for all the events in life that befall us and help shape our character. He periodically invites prominent authors on the show to highlight recent books that add value to the discussion on Stoicism, its concepts and its practice. The show is an excellent approach to Stoicism, very well done.

NyclowryderThe most virtuous Stoic podcastStoicism on Fire is the most complete, articulate, and factual stoicism podcast there is. Chris Fisher doesn’t miss a beat in laying down the entirety of the philosophy, step by step in the most objective way possible. It’s truly a gift for us all.

PDX-LFCDitto and finally a new episode!!!!!Cannot express my gratitude and appreciation for this podcast anymore than what has already been uttered in the many other comments. Only hoping to see a new episode soon.
-
Iron LogicMy favorite of all the Stoicism podcastsI’ve listened to just about every podcast on Stoicism over the past few years. A lot of the podcasters out there are trying to take God out of Stoicism, which creates something that isn’t ancient Stoicism. Thanks for keeping Stoicism not just as a lifestyle, but also as a spiritual way of life.
-
Hays.DonaldThe best availableThere are a few other popular podcasts on stoicism, but this is by far the best I’ve listened to yet. Episode 63 was my first, and WOW. What an intro. Maybe make a Patreon? I didn’t hear any ads yet, but I’d like to keep it that way!

dw_skyjockeyBravo!This is easily the best Stoic podcast out there. Been a listener for years and glad it’s back. Well produced, expert commentary and perfectly articulated. Best for those who want more than a surface level understanding of the philosophy.

Not-so-pleasedOne of my favorite podcastsChris explains ancient stoicism in a way that is clear, concise, supported by the available texts and scholarship, and non-threatening to any one world view. In my search to understand the similarities and differences between ancient stoicism and Buddhist philosophy (as opposed to the more doctrinal religious sects), each podcast allows me to compare and contrast individual lessons/topics, provides ample additional readings, and provides thoughts to contemplate/write on. Keep up the great work Chris and thank you for continuing this despite your challenging career!!
-
capt harrisGratitude for effortsI’m so happy that Stoicism on Fire is back. I love Stoicism study and this one is so inspiring and useful. Chris has a real talent for breaking down the readings into here and now actions I can use. Keep up the great work. Peace be with you.

Ben of the USASo much more than I expectedI’m a middle-aged person who’s struggled with the realities of life and being in a healthy mental place that can accept things beyond my control. I would not consider myself a spiritual person no I grew up in a religious family and so many aspects of spiritualism have irritated me over my life. All that said I wouldn’t say I’m an atheist. I aspire to live a moral life and be content with the life I do have. So naturally I turned to internet LOL. Seriously this is a decades long evolution in my journey I think I found a philosophy and perspective I can follow faithfully.

Jamie G.Stoicism On Fire Is On Fire! Not only the best Stoic podcast, but my favorite among all the podcasts I listen to out of any genre. Chris Fisher has done a tremendous job. I highly recommend the podcast to every student of Stoicism, and to anyone interested in ancient philosophy.

Zia4AllThe Perfect Podcast for Cultivating VirtueI have long considered myself a panentheist yet this is a framework and not a path for becoming the best human being possible. Stoicism, especially as articulated in this podcast, presents a path of virtue that beautifully aligns with panentheism and provides a guide for cultivating virtue. I am so appreciative of the work that Chris Fisher invested in this podcast and grateful that the Cosmos brought it to me.
-
ESC2018A Clear Introduction to the StoicsThis podcast gives your a clear and simple introduction, which then evolves into a more sophisticated and nuanced exploration of the Stoics. It provides you a blue print of how the Stoics thought, and what they thought. This is a good way to introduce yourself to the Stoics, and is a nice companion for anyone reading texts from a Stoic.

-
montereyukeA Finely Curated PaletteMr Fisher has articulated so many fine points of the great masters- and he makes them accessible to all. I appreciate the podcasts’ balance of reporting out that Stoicism is a formidable path for purpose in life, and not merely a system of ethics. His references to Pierre Hadot and the “Inner Citadel” were a turning point for me, and I am grateful.
-
Da pro golfers !!!Very goodI’m new to stoicism and feel this podcast is vital to anyone who wants to understand how it was originally intended to be practiced. There is a difference between modern stoicism and traditional stoicism. It’s important to know what’s being left out as this philosophy is being updated to our current times.
-

Nate O'NeillHe ready to learn. This is the most clear and condensed teachings I’ve found yet. Easy to learn while doing mindless tasks (head set hands free learning) but also worth sitting down and taking notes for a deep dive. There is so much content you will learn fast. Worth listening to over and over. If you want to develop your character with stoic virtues this is a great place to start.
-

-
DrummerboybretWonderful podcast!I really appreciate these lessons. Similar to what is often found in the Buddhist dharma but from a different angle. Maybe more digestible to many western people. Protect me from the fear of my enemies.. It’s that fear that is the real threat. The enemies themselves are nothing. Highly recommended if you feel drawn to it.
-
Chuck37419Great podcast!Glad I found your podcast. It’s packed full of information. I’m new to stoicism. The way you go into detail in each episode is really informative. It’s “On Fire”. Keep up the good work.
-
Regis CarnifexPay attention!Chris Fisher is a skilled expositor of stoic doctrine and practice. He is well-versed in ancient stoic texts and in contemporary scholarship on stoicism, and I have found him to be a credible guide. His podcast, however, is not academic: rather, he treats stoicism as a living philosophy that we can and should embrace today. Fisher is clearly committed to stoic philosophy, and he is compelling in his presentation. He embraces what he calls “traditional stoicism,” which seems to mean that he, correctly, holds the theistic beliefs of the ancient stoics to be essential to stoic practice. (He notes early on, however, that some ancient stoic beliefs have been disproved: I assume he means things like augury and soothsaying, which were indeed embedded in the classical stoic worldview.) What I like most is the combination of theory and practical exhortation. My academic background is in Aristotelian virtue ethics. But although I love Aristotle, he presents little in the way of practical guidance in how to acquire virtue. Not so with Epictetus and the rest of the stoic gang: it’s all practical, all the way down. This podcast has been incredibly helpful in my own moral and spiritual journey. I’m grateful to Chris Fisher for putting this together (although I wish he updated more consistently!). I highly recommend listening.
-
BabyStoicNew to StoicismWhen I say new, I mean it. I stumbled upon all this by accident (yet on purpose). This is the only podcast I have listened to that puts the philosophy into a manner in which I, not only better understand but follow and am able to reflect on.
