We Hate Movies

4,234
TV & Film #103

Since 2010, the We Hate Movies podcast has been loudly celebrating and tearing apart movies from across the spectrum: from forgotten '80s actioners and insane romantic comedies of the '90s, to the early CGI blockbusters of the aughts and the hyper-nostalgic franchises of the 2010s and today. Every week, comedians Andrew Jupin, Stephen Sajdak, Eric Szyszka, and Chris Cabin pick a movie from the near-past to discuss and joke around about in all its positive and negative glory.

    Oh my nertz
Pretty sure I had an out-of-body experience while listening and crying to the Kolcheck bit from End of Days. These boys are essential and they make it worthwhile.

these guys are absolutely hilarious. i love their takes on movies and all the jokes that come along with it, but it gets VERY inappropriate sometimes. not necessarily a problem for me, but i know it’s not for everyone. they still get 5 stars from me

Great show with a few minor grievances
I love this show, I love these guys. They’re very funny and insightful, I just wish they would move the gleep glossaries and the Melroses and the on screen lives and all the extra stuff to a separate feed. None of these are the show I am here for. They do a little too much business upfront, you’re getting upwards of ten minutes of announcements before every ep and it’s giving my fat fingers a workout. Put it in the episode description.

lol occasionally joking about the end of American democracy as we know it isn’t ‘overly political’ you whiners are just mad they aren’t supporting your bigotry. Get over it. You voted for the garbage who will destroy this countries freedom. Best get used to being the butt of jokes.

One of my go to podcasts
I listen to a lot of movie podcasts and this is one of my favorites, they do the best job of going through the movie scene by scene, nothing gets missed.

    Sometimes Funny - Too Long
FYI - I am a listener who wants a podcast that doesn’t take long to get to the point. I actively listen to them and don’t just use them as background noise. I mention this bc I recognize that this is primarily why I’m giving this show a 3-star rating. I didn’t hate the episode I listened to (American Pie), but I won’t be following this show. I listen to What Went Wrong, a movie podcast about what went wrong (and right) during the production of popular movies, and I love it, so I’ve been trying to find similar movie podcasts. This is a group of guys that have solid chemistry that seem to have decided to start recording their recurring movie club meeting discussions in their entirety. Their commentary has very little post-production work so seemingly EVERYTHING is left in the episode, and it just drags on. But it doesn’t help that it takes 20 minutes for them to actually start discussing the movie they’re supposed to talking about. The discussions are mostly just each guys’ opinion on the movie, scenes, and characters. You might like this podcast if you just want some background noise that you can ignore, and zone in and out. They have some funny discussions, but I’m looking for less meandering opinions and more insights into how a movie was made or little nuggets about it to help me appreciate a movie even more than I already do. This show is not for me, but can see why these guys have an audience.

    Chris Cabin Really Blows
I love 75% of this podcast. Unfortunately Chris Cabin exists, soley to YELL completely unfunny things into the microphone, stopping the fun and leaving Andrew, Steven, & Eric to offer some forced pity laughs as they try to get back to the fun. He is a stick in the spokes to the other talented, funny improvisers. I truly miss those good old days when Cabin was gone from the show. Shut your fat face you dildo.

Not just a comedic movie review podcast
Funny impressions, bits, and comedic movie references but done by guys that are actually film buffs so they’ll give you some great insights while you have a laugh.

This radio program is certainly an adequate attempt, but one can not help but wonder if the audio quality could be improved if it was recorded in NIGHT VISION!

    Love these guys
So funny, and basically writing a review to combat the fake review bombs who call it “political” or “woke”. Mentioning current events isn’t making something political, and they’re takes are hilarious - not to mention they don’t hold back on multiples end of the spectrum when tearing apart movies I don’t even hate. Keep it up guys!

    Too political
I found this podcast from a recommendation on The Confused Breakfast. Maybe I caught the wrong episode but the first 30 minutes sounded more like a political pop culture podcast than a movie review podcast. I enjoyed when they finally started talking movies and shows but I just didn’t need the politics.
  • movielover71
Five stars for the four boys
There are a lot of angry reviews about politics being slopped onto this page. Don’t give them any mind. They’re not real listeners. We Hate Movies is as solid a listen as you’re going to get. Right up there with “Blank Check” and “The Rewatchables” for shows that sit at the intersection of “funny” and “knowledgeable”. Subscribe. Listen to the back catalog. You won’t regret it.

Best movie pod in the business
These guys have always been great at what they do and I hope they do it forever. If you are offended by their “politics” then you probably are referring to them condemning hate speech and bigotry. Dont listen to the review bombers, these guys rule!

Discovered these guys during the pandemic and I haven’t stopped listening since. Joined their Patreon a couple of years ago and even got to see them live this past year. Two thumbs way up!

    A long time listener
I’ve been listening to We Hate Movies for a few years now and while I mostly listen to them for the laughs, I’ve realized I actually have learned a bit about movies too.

    Helluva Movie Podcast
Been listening for years. Everything I want in a movie pod: Funny folks, movie lovers, hot takes and the occasional ramble (read: monologue). Great variety in flicks and TV covered, with an arsenal of a back catalogue that will keep every new listener quenched for years. Love these guys!

    Laugh out loud funny
The WHM crew make me laugh hard with funny voices, clever jokes, and occasional perfectly honed stupidity mixed with just enough smartness. Love this show!

One of the best podcasts out there
I’ve been a listener and Patreon subscriber for nearly 8 years. These boys have gotten me through some of the toughest times of my life and they still make me laugh every week. Funny, raunchy, smart, and even wholesome sometimes. Can’t recommend enough!

    What happened
Been listening since the beginning. This show used to be good… But then it got better, well actually it kept getting better. I think the people who think it got worse where perhaps kicked in the head by rabid political donkeys. Anyhoo, awesome show with honest well pointed critiques. Even if they come down hard on a movie I like, they always have great reasons to back it up, and I end up still enjoying the bad movie, but agreeing it’s garbage at the same time 😂 Also this is the funniest comedy podcast around, the jokes flow effortlessly and without the usual idiotic dude bro mannerism the other review bombing aforementioned donkey damaged listeners you may have read the reviews of before me. Perhaps they should pick up a comic book, and go ____ themselves as sandwichly possible! Keep rocking!!

Extremely funny plus LOTS of content
I’ve been a podcast listener for many years, but I just learned about this show a year and a half ago. Since that time, I’ve I’ve listened to them more than any other podcast. I’ve worn out a pair of AirPods on this show. And I STILL have more back catalog to go! These guys reliably put out multiple hours of content every week, and always make me laugh.

    The Hangout Cast
Been a big fan since 2018 with the Cat in the Hat episode! I love the laid back atmosphere and friendship this show has in spades. The fellas have helped me on many long drives and late nights working. The consistency and vibes make this show work. A lot of the negative reviews on here are in bad faith, I think. I hope WHM could mean as much to you as it does to me. Give it a spin!

    Great stuff
Excellent podcast. I love the cope and seethe here from the fascist too. Don’t like when your backwards views are ridiculed? Don’t listen, or better yet maybe think why you get mad when the rights of women, trans people and minorities are mentioned in passing. Love the podcast!

    Good times and great oldies
A lot of fun and joking around but it’s backed up by four guys that actually know about films. Thats the difference, folks. Anyone can hop on a mic and yuck it up dunking on The Room, but the WHM crew have a genuine love for the medium that informs their opinions. One of my favorite shows.

    Completely Worth Your Time
WHM is spectacular! I look forward to each episode and enjoy hearing the gang analyze and jest their way through film. I recommended their Patreon as well. It’s the only one I pay for and it’s more than worth it. Just unreal value for how much entertainment they provide.

My favorite podcast and it’s not close
I’ve been a listener since late 2015 and these guys absolutely rule. This is one of the things I look forward to most every week. And their Patreon is also amazing and an absolute bargain with all the content there. I hope this show never goes away.

    Fantastic and funny!
Super funny movie podcast, my absolute favorite for bad movies (and good movies from the occasional We Love Movies episodes)! Hosts are diverse and well versed in film history and movie making, and hilarious to boot. Cant recommend enough!

Feels like it’s gone on too long
I’ve listened to these guys for years and I’m just kind of over their whole thing, which feels weird because these days they seem to be really hitting the gas on wanting this thing to be a media empire, when at the end of the day it’s just another group of pothead college friends talking about bad movies. A couple of them have more film chops than your average Nic Cage enjoyer so that makes some stuff more worth listening to. Guests are 90% terrible and consist primarily of their Twitter friends. Their politics are obnoxious but they’re a bunch of manchildren so what do you expect. One of them in particular seems preoccupied with trans women so if you like me are a woman who is a strong feminist and/or greatly admires J.K. Rowling, just be aware that they despise her for standing up for women’s rights. There are also A LOT of ads. Promos for their own live shows/events, subscriber-locked stuff on their Patreon, ad reads from the hosts themselves, outside ads inserted by their production system — ads ads ads ads. Even if you pay, you’ll still get ads on lower tiers. Each regular episode probably has 20-30 minutes of this stuff. It’s a lot for a podcast about bad movies.

    Really like except…
Really like this podcast. Clearly listening to good friends with distinct personalities talking. Bits are funny (minus Chris Cabin reading a book intro… boy that doesn’t hit). Love the VHS trailer game! But man, the endless, endless promotions for their live performance schedule is obnoxious. I will skip literal minutes to get through it and they’re still plugging away… more skipping… still plugging away. Ad at the beginning of each episode for performance schedule. Drop a story from a previous live performance in the middle of a movie review. Another plug at the end of an episode. I am sure I am not mentioning another three or four not so subtle plugs throughout each episode. I know this is what they are doing for a living and I get the need to promote. But wow. It reads a bit desperate.

Holy $h!t, hooked after Tokyo Drift….
…the continuous dopey accent by everyone imitating Lucas Black just got more and more hilarious.

    These are my guys
Listen to the show weekly and subscribe to the Patreon. And to humble brag a little more, even went to the show in Jersey City. They always make me laugh. Love all the running gags and even the “woke” jokes that come at the expense of past and still existing goblins. This review was really just to cancel out somebody who downvoted the pod because they couldn’t handle somebody questioning the existence of their reality

    Long time listener.
I’ve been listening to the WHM boys rip apart bad movies since at least 2018. I started all the way back with the first episode they released in the free feed and now I'm listening weekly as be caught up. Love the show and currently I’m going back and listening to my old favorite episodes.

    Non stop canned laughter
These guys aren’t that funny yet they are constantly laughing at everything they say. I’m convinced they’re editing in laughter to create the illusion of hilarity.

    They Hate Movies and...
They hate movies and I hated this podcast until I gave it another chance. They're playing around annoyed me at first, but they grew on me quickly. Now it's one of my favorite shows. Unlike many "funny" podcasts they actually are. Plus, their takes on films is educted, fun, and usually spot on. Even when they rip apart movies I consider great, I can't argue with the flaws they point out. Great fun.

    Five star podcast!

    Poisoned by the narrative.
Listened to these guys for years. But I can’t listen to them anymore. There is so much heavy handed politics in every episode that it’s just not funny anymore. Trying to accommodate a narrative will never make for an entertaining show. It will just make you feel like you’re being yelled at.

    Great white dopes
Fat white leftists whine about politics most of the time. They fancy themselves comedians apparently

    Must listen podcast
I mean, you don’t really have to listen to them. I think the non-English-speaking world would find it confusing. They’re probably better ones if you’re trying to learn English as a second language. Teaching English is secondary to this podcast main mission, which is ripping into movies. I have openly chortled listening to them, which is high praise for a podcast.
  • Banana Noses
    Love them

    They’re fun
Be a lot better if they would stop pretending to be offended by everything in older movies. We get it, humor has changed but you don’t need to act like you’re so offended by everything.

    Lol
I thin theyre vv funny and hate myself for it. I cant tell them apart what does it matter? Good job. The psycho episode really spooked me I kept thinking Norma was standing in my doorway!!!
