BjornEinarssonThey’re addicted to maga politicsEvery time anymore that I give these guys a chance, I regret it. I thought baptism would be a safe topic as others I have specifically avoided based on the title. But no, once again they had to out of nowhere dive into their misinformed maga politics that they so love. Typical Missouri Synod anymore it seems. Why can’t they put their politics aside for a simple Gospel centered podcast? Please don’t become like Issues Etc. There are many great shows on 1517 but this is not one of them. I will no longer risk listening to it.

TTvdukdThinking FellowsThe arrogance of the host is offensive and reflects a tone deafness and ignorance of what he is talking about. Don’t judge what you don’t understand! Do not recommend this podcast!
-
nicdreamieGreat GuysThis show is phenomenal. I am a Lutheran church member and I was recommended the 1517 network by my pastor about a year ago. I have been listening to their podcasts almost exclusively for the past year. I eased in with a Field Guide to the Bible, then Old Testament, then New Testament and a few others. Thinking Fellowship has been the latest one I have tried. The topics are right in line with what I’m looking for including reading material for other great sources of information. Can’t say enough good things about these guys. Keep up the great work!!

Pastor Andrew WoodsA Reformed BaptistHey guys, great podcast! I appreciate learning from you guys. As a Baptist we certainly have differences but Law and Gospel distinctions are great. Keep up the good work and may the Lord be glorified!
-
Scooby F BabyPolitical PodcastI have listened to every episode that the Thinking Fellows has produced, but the banter at the beginning was hilarious. I agree with Scott that it was interesting. I forget his choice of words there, but on this topic and especially on abortion, you gentleman are right! We do have to make a stronger stand against this atrocity. I am a victim of this and whose ex-wife aborted our very own child, and while claiming she was a Christian. This topic is very dear to me and I am happy that you spoke up on the topic of abortion! Fantasy7Brilliant Minds, but Room for DepthGreat podcast led by a group of exceptionally intelligent hosts, each bringing a unique perspective to the table. Their grasp of theology and history is truly impressive, making this a valuable resource for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of the faith. However, at times, I sense that they hold back from delving into more profound discussions, possibly out of a need to maintain a broad appeal or stick to a certain format. While I appreciate the clarity and structure of the show, I often find myself wishing they would push the boundaries a bit more and offer the deeper insights that I know they’re capable of. Despite this, the show remains one of my favorites, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for thoughtful and engaging theological content. or perhaps bring guests on to the show to ask layman questions that may allow better explanations and provoke deeper conversation.

A R L C 56Good podcast!I’m an LCMS “old” lady and there’s a LOT of gems here! Thanks for providing a path to clearer understanding! Regarding your episode on What is Church, I only want to say no mention was made for those who are physically unable to attend church. I don’t know what I would do without my Pastor’s sermons being online. I am unable to attend church regularly (due to a chronic condition) but the sermons make me feel a part of each service.

jwatts nmConfessionsI have been returning to the conversations on Augsburg Confession and blessed by the Biblical, philosophical, and deep reflection.

jordayBearConsumable by the armchair theologianThis podcast has been extremely informative and helpful as I explore how to best live out a life lived for Christ and in accordance with the Word. These gentlemen are really good at explaining concepts that can be very complex when just starting to explore. Thank you guys for what you do!

@mountainbadgerSalt of the earth3 old salts that haven't lost their saltiness. Could use a little pepper though. They're like 3 quarks spinning the same direction or 3 blonde waitresses at the truck stop. Every baseball player knows that a good coach will sometimes take him back to the basics. These fellows consistently plant their back foot on the cross of Christ and the empty tomb. Solid scriptural teaching illuminates both historical and modern Christian teachers. No bells or whistles but if you want Rock solid Theology then step up to the plate. Amen, Sensible Christianity is the most understandable & thorough course on apologetics I have ever listened to. Thanks for finally discussing tall Tolkien. Adam stated he’d like a year to read his works but in my case I appreciated it moreThe third or fourth time through Adam cracked a joke! Thanks for your consistency in this ever-changing world which we live in it’s good to have our feet on some Ruck solid ground @BadgerSmith7

Sam big fanCatholics ChristianHow do you do a show on this issue and bring up the book of Galatians?
-
Sammy WhammykinzGood and theologically soundIf you like conversational podcasts this one is for you. It gives a nice high level over view of topics. It helps provoke your own thoughts. Might be boring for some as it is a lot of opinion based conversation.
-
Maryfran129Interesting and informativeThank you for this show, practical knowledge for me in my walk with Christ. Teaching me how to share the gospel with more confidence and loving hearing you discuss many other topics.
-
Flux85capacitorNot for meI found it too be a little too “bro” at times with the way some of the topics are approached. I decided to stop listening when someone said - “They smell their own farts and they say that’s pineapple”.
-
ViktorE77Very engaging show.I really enjoy listening to these thoughtful & insightful gentleman discuss theological issues from a Lutheran perspective. I always learn something and they do a good job of keeping weighty topics entertaining and informative.

98JewelThought provokingAn interesting, thought provoking panel which provides many insights into a variety of topics. A superb podcast full of introspective value.

super hero snakeLove this podcastDisco Francisco is my favorite!
-
AtamaganaiOrthodoxyShallow theology that supports purity culture through doctrine that is a human construct. The central theme of Jesus’ life and death is overlooked in favor of a domination structure. Throughout his life as a teacher of righteousness Jesus emphasized orthopraxy through word and action. His goal was the transformation of the human spirit from the mundane to redemptive love. It would be beneficial for everyone to reread and study the synoptic gospels rather than drawing doctrines from Paul’s (and pseudo Pauline’s) writings.

RedoubtedBWOverall amazing podcast with exceptional hosts and great content. I’ve been listening for a number of years and the only reason why I can’t get five stars is because the releases have been so unpredictable every week or every other week it makes me think 1517 has taken on too many podcasts.
-
Swimming in Ponds in the RainLet Francisco Cook! Some solid content. Not so great when it turns into the Scott Keith opinion hour - then it’s unlistenable.
-
Randall HGreat conversationLove the variety of topics, thanks for the content.
-
BradsWorld2Post MReally good breakdown of Postmodernism, Deconstruction, etc…. Love this content. More. Would love deeper breakdown of different philosophies, especially modern philosophies. (Loved Rings of Power episode.)
-
RebaMommy31Excellent theology and engagingI am a life-long Lutheran, just now reading the Book of Concord for the first time. Having the thinking fellows commentary to listen to as I work through it has been so helpful! I also enjoy their more recent episodes.
-
Txaz02ChangedThis show was wonderful a few years ago, now it’s devolved into two Keith’s sharing their similar opinions and occasionally letting Adam Fransisco join in on the conversation. Most of their topics are way too broad and high minded for everyday lay people. Scott, let other people talk. And, please figure out your audio issues. People don’t like hearing you cough, spit, and swallow.

Micah AdamsonGreat for Non-Lutherans too!15 years ago, when I found Rod Rosenblatt on Mike Hortons Podcast: The White Horse Inn, I started describing myself as "Calvanistic" without being a "Calvinist". 5 years ago, when I followed Rod over to the Thinking Fellows postcast, I realize that I should also say I'm "Lutheranistic" without being a "Lutheran". This show is great for people Christians from all backgrounds! The topics discussed are always interesting, but more importantly, you will hear the forgivness of sins in Jesus' name delivered regardless of the topic!

macdSrWhy You Should Read the NTThis series is insightful. Thank you. Check out the Evangelical Heritage Version (2019) by The Wartburg Project, published by NPH. Margie Dowling, Benton Harbor, MI

GriffinC92Not a Lutheran but a Great Podcast!I am a Reformed Baptist (so not exactly a confessing Lutheran!) So I can’t say that I agree with everything said on this shown regarding paedobaptism, etc. However, I find this show to be super edifying and thought provoking. Caleb, Adam, and Scott are all very knowledgeable and concerned with speaking the truth, and having some fun along the way. 5 stars, would highly recommend!
-
Miggy68Thank YouHey, I’m doing this because you told me to do so. At first your back and forth discussion seemed fairly monotone and you came across like you got in trouble with the principal and you were forced to do this to make amends. But I hung in there and love the back and forth discussion especially the series on the “Why You Should” topics. Thank you for making me think about items I had not formerly considered important to actually think about. Shawn

vitamindefiantThe Thinking Fellows has turned me into a more thoughtful fellowI got hooked on this show when they did their Chronicles of Narnia series. Love the conversation and insight. Caleb, Scott, and Adam are genuine, they say what they think, and are quite funny. 75% of what they talk about is way over my head, but I keep coming back for more. Since listening, I've actually been inspired to pick up a few books (I'm reading a book on Christian History currently) and research some old dead guys (Augustine, Calvin, etc.). Now I'm just waiting for them to start up a Lutheran version of Knights of Columbus. When can we expect that to happen? Also, I'm glad to hear that Caleb has discarded his flat-earth beliefs. (Has he really, though?) Thanks guys.

Lostfan57Awesome PodcastI stumbled upon this podcast when searching for a podcast on Augustine, and have enjoyed listening ever since! My favorite episodes have dealt with the Great Thinkers of the Christian Faith, as well as the episodes on C. S. Lewis. While I am not Lutheran, I very much enjoy getting outside of my theological bubble with their discussions and views on theology. Definitely one of my favorite podcasts, and I highly recommend others check it out!
-
JesterDeanit’s a religious show… clear as day.Snobby educated religious fanatics to closed minded to think beyond one book, the Bible. Interesting conversation are lazy. Always answering a moral conflict with a religious fix… One can not have morals or see beauty without god.
-
Ohiopastor121Love it!Great conversations to eavesdrop in on!
-
MatteoPhxGreat topics and content but…I enjoy the podcast—lots of great content. But the thinly veiled anti-vax and right-wing conspiracy theories and uninformed comments about academic topics outside their areas of expertise are off-putting.
-
Diana025This Presbyterian loves the pod!I’ve been a life-long C. S. Lewis fan and have listened to the series in reverse order. Great work guys! I plan to listen to pods on the Lutheran Confession too. My religious background is varied from having been raised Roman Catholic, with heavy influences of a Lutheran grandfather (ECLA), a Presbyterian grandmother (Associate Reformed Presbyterian), and fundamentalist friends; I found Presbyterian as a young adult (currently ECO).

Josiah2729Great for Learning Lutheran DoctrineI am new to Lutheran Theology. I really appreciate this podcast for its explanation of Lutheran doctrine and its history. Thank you all!
-
NC Confessional LutheranFree WillJust finished reading the Apology this morning regarding free will followed by the origin of sin, and I was glad to see the latest episode discussing those articles. Great explanation with respect to the will, reason, desire, etc., as well as the differences between civil and spiritual righteousness.
-
FloridaBuckeyeYou guys have been a blessing!!!Fairly new to the reformed faith, and not understanding the Lutheran position, this podcast has really opened my eyes and answered a lot of questions. Always thought Lutheranism was just RC light. Got to you guys via White Horse Inn. God bless you guys and keep up the good work!!!
-
EdisonWellsKnow the TruthExcellent show for those who are seeking and willing to engage critically in the truth of Christianity through the lens of the philosopher/theologian/apologist. We often forget that nearly everything that can be asked and debated, has been asked and debated about Jesus Christ over the last 2000 years. And that means the good news that is FOR YOU rests on a solid unchangeable foundation, not on the ignorant yearnings of mankind.

Eturnl2009Worth a listenI was predestined to write this review. So how could I resist?
-
johannes_de_silentioAdvanced Theology in Plain EnglishThe Thinking Fellows provides an accessible yet thought-provoking education to nuanced theological and historical topics. Highly recommend for Christians and non-Christians alike and especially those interested in the intersection between Lutheran theology, Reforemation Era Church history, and apologetics. ~Crux Sola est Nostra Theologia~

aparkhurstHelpful tool!As a budding theology student, this podcast is a helpful tool when writing papers or looking for more information on a specific topic. I will be coming back in the future to continually learn more about the faith I profess!

ewayne91A uniquely accessible survey of classical thought!I am not a Lutheran. In fact, I am a Latter-day Saint—something at which the majority of listeners/reviewers of this podcast would sneer, sadly. I’ll come back to that. This podcast does well to introduce laypeople to topics in the classical liberal arts (philosophy, analytic language, intellectual history, etc.). The podcast also explains Lutheranism very thoroughly and in a manner delightful to the Lutheran fold. I would agree with *some of* the reviews here that point to the flippant and smug attitudes shared by the hosts regarding Catholic and Evangelical Christian world views. I would extend that, if you’d indulge me, to include the ham-fisted and smug discounts of Mormon thought that pop up as hisses and bywords here and there throughout the series. Like all freshman in their first apologetics seminary class, these gentlemen neglect to address LDS theology as more than just a cult or an incoherent ramble of frontier American Christianity. I imagine their knowledge of Mormonism comes from one class they took on “cults” from a professor who knows just barely more than they do. What I see in that is yet another example of an utterly embarrassing ignorance of a thorough, robust, and philosophically coherent world view/philosophy/theology. The unfamiliarity with Mormonism, coupled with its nonchalant dismissal by the hosts, is cringy and awkward. Altogether a great podcast, though!

Society of CiceroWhat do you believe? This podcast has given me deep exploration into this question. It takes on very complex concepts (philosophy, logic, history, apologetics, law, religion, etc) in how they relate to the Gospel and makes them relatively easy to understand. They present issues objectively, while honestly revealing the logical foundation of their beliefs and contrary beliefs. In this way, they present their opinions but leave it to the hearer to accept or reject them in a non-judgmental or “preachy” way. I would especially recommend for any parent, all will likely face tough questions from their kids being influenced by a very biased world of scholastics.
-
moorejd79Love the show, however...I listen to hear those that have been there and done that explain and open up theological thought(s) for us laymen. Given that it would be even better if Caleb didn’t try and insert himself so often. Forgive me if that is rude, but those with their hands dirty and not a seminary student are the ones we need to hear.
-
aallen554Learned, wise, measured, informativeThe name of the podcast is quite apt. These guys are thinkers. And expositors. They know history, they know theology. The podcasts have a pedagogical bent but not dry/boring or haughty. They are quite accessible to the lay-person who approaches their faith with intentionality. Also quite helpful to non-Lutherans.
-
HelloitsdozerStrong showI’ve learned a ton!
-
john.sbAll time favorite show!Between this and the old White Horse Inn show, it’s hard to choose from. But this takes the prize! I’ve grown in my knowledge of Christ and true Christian liberty immensely from these guys.

eltony07You guyslook nothing like I thought you would ha. Was hoping Rod looked like Brian Cox. Anyway. Awesome show. Always makes me think of autozone with the intro jingle ha

XbethesdaxAssuranceWhile I’m not Lutheran, this podcast and network of 1517 have done a great deal on informing me on Lutheran theology and pointing me in the right direction for studying Lutheran theology a bit more in depth as a layman in the church. I’ve come to deeply appreciate Lutheranism because of these men and I see that Lutheranism seems like an impending move for me that I’m trying to challenge in every way. Lutheran theology has done a great deal for my conscience and assurance of salvation concerning the two kinds of righteousness, the emphasis on total depravity, and what it means to have faith in Christ. I’ve been admonished to not depend on the quality of my repentance, but to simply trust in Christ. Soli Deo Gloria
