    Great insight
Dr. Paulson and Caleb Keith are definitely a gift to those that need understanding on tough a subject. This podcast is a blessing and so are both of these gentlemen! Thank you for your time invested in teaching us!

    Brilliant mind
Dr. Paulson has helped me greatly to understand his Outlaw God books that I am slowly going through. He has gone over the first book. I have had to go to many different sources (that the book shows as references) to get a better understanding of what he has written. Deep thoughts and connections that never would have come to me are revealed. While I don’t always agree (at this point) , his insights are very compelling and leave me with days of thought and pondering. I can’t wait for the podcast to come out each week and I usually go through them at least 2 times each week. Only wish there was more releases.

    Mindblowing and consistently challenging
The Outlaw God podcast with Steve Paulson and Caleb Keith pushes the edge of what we think about God and pushes us into hearing the proclamation. I started at the beginning and am still catching up while I listen to the new series on the small catechism, but Paulson and Keith consistently cut through mires of my previous evangelical theology and general American cultural philosophy into the God of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While walking through Paulson’s “Luther’s Outlaw God”, they dive into the Bible, medieval philosophy, and our modern context. I would highly recommend, especially for a discussion group.

A deep dive into the reform of our concept of God that happened 500 years ago. It wasn’t a more timely than you think. You are not the sum of your mistakes or accomplishments. You are a child of God in His story, forgiven and redeemed! You have everything you need for the next leap of faith Life will demand of you.

A podcast could not be more interesting.
Dr. Paulson is able to dance theologically like no other and Caleb is able to keep up on the dance floor. I started at the beginning and listened to every single episode in about 6 months.

    Pure Paulson
This podcast is a gift to all fans of Dr. Paulson but especially for those of us who have gotten ourselves caught up in the greatness of the Outlaw God trilogy. This podcast reminds me of seminary and having Dr. Paulson walk step-by-step, chapter-by-chapter through books and articles. Caleb Keith is a great (astoundingly intelligent) host.

    A great podcast series
I have a heightened appreciation of Luther and his teachings listening to these podcasts. I am currently listening to an episode a day as my daily devotional. American Protestants (and Catholics) need to relearn Luther’s theology, it’s significance and why it drove the 1517 Reformation of the Christian world.

A great theological deep dive in manageable chunks
I greatly appreciate this podcast and getting to benefit from Dr. Paulson’s teaching. I do believe that Erasmus might have had a few objections to it were he still with us. : )

    Lutheran Layperson
I am a converted Presbyterian to Lutheran mostly because of Justification by Faith through Grace. However, I never understood where my Faith came from. I believed it was a decision that I made to follow Christ. This Podcast has taught me that my Faith was given to me by a promise from God. That promise was the proclaimed Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was proclaimed by one sinner to me another sinner and now I am free to proclaim to others. Dr. Paulson has the ability to convey complex philosophical and Theological ideas and make it sound like you heard it in a coffee shop. I love this Podcast.

    Added perspective
I love hearing the reformed Lutheran perspective and history on all the topics they cover. It’s been a blessing to learn more about Luther and his contemporaries as opposed to just knowing about Calvin and others! Been super blessed by this podcast in my own understanding of who God is and how he interacts with His people.

    Challenging and eye-opening
I continue to hunger for more of the promise, more to see, and more to hear. You uncover again and again what God is saying to us, and I will continue to listen! I gained a lot from your instruction in classes at Mount Carmel, in chapel at Concordia, and in your writing. I enjoyed meeting John Hoyum at Mount Carmel one summer. 1517 is loaded with things to help me continue to grow in faith. I am overwhelmed by gratitude to our Lord Jesus Christ! Don Myrvik JoyfulDon

Just some of the problems with this material
May I not be a noisy gong or clanging cymbal, so please hear this critique as Faith expressed as Love for the sheep AND Shepherds: “Preacher”is not one of the Solos. Faith comes by hearing the Word but preachers certainly aren’t the only or necessary source of proclaiming it. Scripture makes that very clear. If the Augsburg Confession says otherwise, as I think I just heard Dr. Paulson state, I must decline joining a Lutheran church I am attending. Faith comes by hearing the WORD, including by reading it aloud and even if via an Audio Bible. On at least this point, Dr. Paulson is lessening the Light of Truth with shadowy philosophy. Please don’t use scripture as a launchpad for any such non-Biblical human interpretation. Second, when promising, and across more than one episode, to explain a particularly baffling scripture, please at least do so instead of talking around it for hours while veering off into your philosophy. Very frustrating. Finally, Freud is an incredibly poor choice for source material, being without the indwelling Holy Spirit and instead perhaps with its opposite. But hey, gotta love the show’s wild west outlaw music. Remember folks, we can know them by their fruit. Laughing a lot at all interpretations other than thine own is not the Spirit’s fruit of humility. Peace to all of you who are in Christ. Amen!

Here is an instrument of the Holy Spirit being used to deliver the Word of God to open the ears and bring life were there is death…Ex Nihilo…De la Nada!

Very helpful companion to the book
The book Luther's Outlaw God Vol 1 is very dense and not intuitive reading for a layperson like me. Dr. Paulson and Caleb provide helpful explanations and analogies for the book's most difficult concepts.

    The Way of Paul
Martin Luther caught the radical nature of Paul’s gospel and Steven Paulson tracks with Luther and Paul like no other theologian living. If you want to go on an adventurous romp through church history and the expanse of Christian theology that takes you back to the beginning, which is the cross, this podcast and the high-octane conversation it contains between Caleb Keith and Dr. Paulson will guide you as they track the Outlaw God who can only be seen when he reveals himself. And it’s all Good News in the end.

    Ever insightful
I wish every American Evangelical and Lutheran for that matter could hear what Steve Paulson has to say

Wow. Just discovered this podcast and wish I had a year ago when it started up. I’ve been following 1517 for a few years and really appreciate their deep yet accessible Gospel-centered biblical teaching. This podcast is no exception. I’m only two episodes in and already addicted. There are profound insights made throughout the show so I find myself rewinding to take it all in, sometimes several times. This one I’ll need to enjoy slowly so I can get all the “goods” out of it (as the Thinking Fellows like to say). Thank you 1517!

    Wow!
Mark chapter 4 episode was wonderful! So thankful for a God who preaches absolution. This podcast fills me and challenges me every week. I was raised evangelical, but I think I was missing things from confusion from the world. Thanks guys!

Great content but the recording superimposed the conversation on top of itself. Maybe see if that can be cured.

    Monday’s Break My Brain
This is one of the most confounding shows I listen to while still being wonderfully understandable and freeing. Paulson is an elegant wordsmith doing intellectual gymnastics for us, making sense of Scripture’s complexities through the heart-warming and comically crass thoughts that only Martin Luther could have. Bravo and thank you for this show. It’s a gift to receive each week - daring to balance the hidden will of God during a year where we can only ask “how long, O Lord?”

Stellar interaction with philosophy and theology
This is the most clear podcast out there if you really want to understand how and where Luther diverged from, not only Medieval Church thought at his time, but from all philosophers ever. As shocking as that may sound, from the Bhagavad Gita to Athens, the idea that natural law can make one righteous pervades all religious and philosophical thought, from ancient times up through the philosophers of today. Only God’s Word stands against this idea, and Paulson pulls together a thorough and comprehensive exposition of Luther’s analysis of this, from a wide swathe of Luther’s greatest works.

    Thank you
Thank you for this series. While not necessarily for those without any background, it’s great for exploring Luther’s theology in a more detailed fashion.

    My favorite podcast
This podcast changes my life each week. I’m learning about my addiction to the law and how Christ sets me free. Thank you.

    Profound Insights!
As a recovering evangelical that used to look down upon Lutherans I am amazed at the insights into the nature of God and the scriptures that Dr. Paulson so clearly explains. Incredible podcast. And oh yes, I repent of my former snobbishness. The teachings of Luther have been life changing!

A deep well of serious theology
I’ve listened to podcasts for decades and generally, you get good stuff, but its mostly snack sized - content that once the pod ends, you can take or leave. That’s the general nature of podcasting for you. Here is a unique experience where serious theological content is made accessible through this format. Dr Paulsen, taking his profound and deep content and with the help of an experienced podcaster and sharp theological mind in his own right, Caleb Keith, making these subjects navigable to the novice and enlightening to the experienced. You will be hard pressed to find anything like it in the interwebs.
  • TDM70
    Fantastic!
Paulson cuts through all the garbage. It is all about the proclamation, not trying to convince a free will. All the power and action of salvation is comes from God. He is God and we are not!

    1517 and Steven Paulson?!
Really?! This is sad to see/hear. The christology/theology of Steven Paulson in regards to the atonement is problematic for sure.... :\

    Outlaw God
I have not been a church going person for my entire adult life. I am a devout believer in God and Jesus, as well as the Holy Spirit. I was made aware of God in a particularly intense spiritual encounter with Satan. Since this day I have followed Him. He shows me all I know of Him with the Holy Spirit, the Bible, and this life. No church. So I have been excited to see how much “Lutheran” lines up with what I have learned independently. 1517 is where my theology is being refined. I definitely recommend all the podcast I’ve heard from them. Just starting the “Outlaw God” podcast. Very interesting! I have loved the “30 minutes in the New Testament “ series. Highly recommend that one.

    The Outlaw God
This podcast is opening my eyes to the richness of Lutheran thought. This comes as a shock to my “reformed” theology. I highly recommend this discussion to all who love Jesus Christ.

I learn something new and valuable every time I listen to this podcast. It answers tons of questions that I’ve never thought of asking. I can’t thank God enough for it.

    Freedom
Steven Paulson cuts through all of the noise filling my ears from a life lived in the church...noise of performance, bait and switch, and confused interpretations of Scripture...essentially the deafening noise of the law. He brings the clarity of the distinction between law and gospel, and he preaches the word of freedom, the word of absolution in Christ. And all of sudden I am given space where once I was squeezed, I am lighter where I once was burdened by the weight of trying to justify myself before God and others, and I am given rest where I once was perpetually striving and working. I can never hear this word enough. Thank you for this podcast!

It’s provocative, it’s practical, it preaches.

The cutting edge of contemporary Lutheran theology and spirituality
Re: theology. This podcast with Steven Paulson has helped me get into most of the current conversations in Lutheran theology in a productive but critical way. If you ever hear people prattling on about Gerhard Forde and how evil or heretical he is (and how evil Paulson is by extension) and are wondering what all the fuss is about, this podcast might help clear it up. Fans of Oswald Bayer will especially appreciate Paulson‘s approach. Re: spirituality, the podcast points back again and again to Luther’s key reformation insights about justification by faith. It will encourage your heart, even if you have some reservations about their points. I listen to it while I run and find myself returning to these ideas in prayer quite often.

    Preach!
This podcast wrestles with questions about the Gospel and how it's preached to God's people. Uses Martin Luther and his wrestling with the same questions as a framework for discussion. The good news proclaimed in this podcast is a balm for my weary soul.

Where is God? He’s right over there.
This podcast is currently my favorite. I’ve listened to all of them more than once. Especially this last episode when they explain where to find God.

    Refreshing and Vital
This podcast is doing something for me that I haven’t experienced for years. I remember when I began studying theology which led me to attend seminary. I remember being astounded by the counterintuitive Lutheran take on Justification, Faith, the Hidden/Revealed God, Sanctification, etc. I remember having my presuppositions about these subjects smashed over and over, replaced with a view that I never would have expected. For the first time studying theology was rebuking, correcting, and repenting me in line with what God spoke through the prophet Isaiah (55:8 ESV): “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.” This podcast is doing what I haven’t experienced since my pre-seminary/seminary days. This is how theology should be: refreshing, surprising, invigorating, exciting...true! I have heard many Bible teachers over the years. Some bad, some good, and some great. You’ll find two of the best in this podcast.

At the same time Saint and Sinner
This is a great podcast because any time I get a chance to hear Dr. Paulsen is sublime. But Caleb’s untimely interruptions generally provoke an uncharitable response that is clearly sinful. At the end of the day, Dr. Paulsen’s gracious words are decisive. Thank you!

What a gift to have this combination of history, scripture, theology, and apologetics available! Praise be to the God, that God is an outlaw!

    Outlaw God
Enjoyed Steve Paulson in Seminary as a Professor, and now on the Podcast! Outlaw God has inspired me with a renewed sense of purpose as a preacher, and reminded me that it is an honor to speak God's word to people that need to hear the Gospel. Preaching is a task that I do not take lightly. I often feel the burdon of the weekly service is like preparing to give birth- with lots of labor pains and prayers throughout. The weekly process itself drives me to my knees as I seek to find God and speak his word to the congregation while also hearing God's promise myself. Thank you for this excellent work.

So much “meat” here. Have listened to the first 3 episodes several times to take it all in. Looking forward to learning more about the outlaw God. Thank you.

    This is Awesome!
In depth, thoughtful, Lutheran theology! A breath of fresh air in the current landscape of the Lutheran Church in the United States. If you don’t know anything about Martin Luther or Lutheran theology this is a great place for you to understand what the reformation was and is all about!
