ArodtayHistory Hit is always a hitI am very much enjoying Don Wildman and American History Hit, along with the rest of the History Hit catalog of podcasts. Well researched and well presented.
-
fstskrma8Just Right!I’ve listened to a variety of history pods - this is perfect length, well-written, well-researched - great choice!
-
HistoryBobLSuperb podcastI’ve been listening to this podcast for about two years now, and it’s really an informative and fascinating series with leading historians on the various topics discussed. I enjoy the broad range of historic moments covered and getting to know US presidents and the struggles they endured. Don’s facilitation of these conversations is masterful to keep it moving and interesting.

Just another mol Elizaboringinterviewing professors and such is boring, selecting random topics that go from one era to another is off-putting

DavidD7963Young leftists praising old leftistsWhy do you hide the truth from the next generation? The priceless lessons necessary for a successful future are buried in the past but leftist ideologues like you are the rocks that make excavation of the truths hard learned by those who came before us more difficult to discover. Learn the truth first and then portray yourself as a teacher. Until then you do far more harm than good.

SharmelleExcellent and RespectfulI discovered this podcast last week and have been enjoying it so much. Great storytelling and interviews by Don Wildman, who is respectful of the subjects and guests. I’ve learned a great deal about US history from this podcast and hope it continues for a long time.

mcmonteMore Amazing Shows! The American History Hit Podcast is at the top of my list every week. I have voted in Presidential elections since 1972! Your pod about President Carter after his passing yesterday was really welcome. I voted for him but have regretted it in retrospect. The review of his work the the Camp David Accords and other foreign policy work was impressive. The Iran Hostage Crisis and badly organized rescue weighs heavily on my recollection, however. I remember mortgage rates at 14% which were devastating. I didn’t relate to the Oil Embargo until your interview, but it makes sense. The bottom line of my review is that the Podcast is always amazing. Don Wildman is a superbly well read host whose studio presence is the best in the business. I look forward to every episode!

LWS 🤓🇺🇸How old is America?Black slaves were brought to America to work the black soil of the South? Is this what a once prestigious school like Stanford University is teaching our kids these days? How about eliminating this silly conjecture and get back to real higher education basics.

lp.lovesRevisionist history, US propagandaWhile well produced and statistically fairly accurate, the storytelling still comes from an imperialist, nationalist perspective. The United States is a cancer on this earth - we must face the harsh reality of history, not a protected version that paints our country as if we are saviors. We destabilize the entire balance of harmony in the universe - stop with the fairy tales.
-
hohum1045Slightly interesting, but they invoke climate change for stories 1000 years ago.So the history is really good, but twice today on two different podcasts I’ve heard about climate change. One was from the Cahokia mounds. Sources????? It started off well, but you people are fools.

RosierebGreat History PodcastI tried several history Podcasts, but this one is the best. It is so informative. The host & guests paint a poignant picture and bring you back to the period they are discussing. I could not recommend it more.

Proud Latina in TexasThose who don’t understand history are doomed to repeat itUpdate to review: Don tells history like it is. Simple as that. He does not rewrite or provide bias - if it seems like that to some listeners then I encourage them to look into their hearts and realize it may be time to admit why that is. Keep up the great work, Don! Without outlets like yours, history will buried under today’s propaganda and our great country does not deserve that. Original review: I absolutely love this podcast and the host! I never know what the next topic is going to be and somehow it’s always just what I needed to hear. Each episode is well researched and has a good story to it. I like the guests he picks and listening to Don’s perspective on the topic. He’s just like us- a history nerd! I happily pay the annual subscription for the work that goes into creating this content. Thanks!

MickDrapePresidential Series?Excellent podcast. I hope you will continue the presidential series soon.
-
dlp1963Very informationalThe delivery of this podcast is spot on. I enjoy the subject matter, which makes me want to do more research on the topics
-
The American Way!Left wing historyIf you love the lies of the left this is the show for you!
-
wdikfygkoksawyombvffGreat history show with a perfect hostWhy did the presidential profiles stop?? I loved them. But most of the subjects you cover are important and interesting without a political agenda. My only note is the longer the episode, the better.

FA3IIIdlpUsing a computerized voice to replace words to be politically correct is a bit muchOverall, this podcast is pretty good. It has a nice variety of topics, and it’s both accessible enough for anyone but with enough depth for more avid history fans. I’ve noticed a bunch of reviews saying it’s gotten increasingly liberal/progressive/left… that does seem to be a trend, and while it’s not necessarily my speed, it comes with the territory with academics sometimes, so to this point I’ve kind of shrugged. What finally got me was listening to the James K. Polk episode… inserting a computer-voice over the guest, replacing her use of the terms “slaves” and “Indians” with “enslaved people” and “Native Americans” is really just a bit much. I get that there are different opinions on which terms to use, but no one is going to be offended or crushed or anything like that by hearing the words “Indians” or “slaves.” While some may not prefer them, they are neither slurs nor are they pejorative terms. I enjoy different perspectives from my own, so leftward slant isn’t really the biggest problem for me… it’s the editing over non-offensive, commonly accepted terms. If you’re going to use one term or another, fine, but editing over someone who uses the other - with a computer-voice - is just weird and a bit 1984-like.

catowayPee pee tapeIt’s telling how you will report on the Guantánamo Bay and not give a ounce of care about the PP tapes and how none of that was real but you are sure Qwik to show our underbelly as a nation. You are a disgrace. I love the shows but the media is a disgrace.
-
16BriglouW. WilsonExcellent show. Didn’t know much about him.
-
AmityVilleNYMany decent episodes but has taken a turnI’ve enjoyed many episodes and the academics he interviews are generally a liberal bunch but in the past few weeks/months it’s been really over the top politically biased. Glad I got to this point before I backed it financially. Now I have no regrets when I delete an episode that is spewing biased nonsense.

Renee in St. PaulMuch better than high school history classThis show has an engaging host who obviously loves history and speaking with his expert guests, most of whom are delightful. I was bored by American history in high school but didn’t want to remain ignorant about it as I became an adult. These podcasts explain a wide range of famous people and events in an enjoyable way.
-
uncle dudeOutstandingLove this podcast. I learn so much each episode, thanks to the experts on the show and the host’s vast knowledge of the subject.
-
asalffpxkqtTaft EpisodeI’m giving this podcast a one star review because of the incessant fat shaming during the episode on William Howard Taft. I stopped listening after the seven-minute mark because the comments on his weight were already excessive. Taft is a former US president and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He has given this country more to discuss about him than his weight alone.

hylander730Gone downhill with hyperbolic storytelling8/22/24 Update: Recent episodes have begun to lean toward political proselytizing rather than historical education. Disappointing considering some of the topics used to be engaging and non-partisan. Clearly, Wildman favors hyperbolic storytelling that reflects his political stances rather than letting his guests share their expertise.
-
Jg2087845528ChangingGreat podcast typically, but it seems to be leaning much more into a promoting a particular political stance. A lot of topics that seem to take jabs at those who lean more right while bypassing the faults of those on the left. As an independent, I’d just like to see a bit more balance coming from the content. Especially with an election approaching. The sudden lean toward partisan politics seems to be more political propaganda than historical education.
-
Vermont GritWoke historyThe Kamala Harris episode was impossible to listen to. There was no history, facts or research. Instead we heard someone’s woke ramblings. This podcast used to be interesting.
-
learningthefactsNot even in the same leagueI have fully enjoyed your show. Some very interesting information. I’m sure this won’t be the first time someone has disagreed with the content. Kamala is not even in the same category as Thatcher, Cleopatra or Boudicca. What has she really done for our country??? Trying to be bipartisan, but really trying to wonder what she has to offer that puts in in the same rank as leaders???
-
LuckyFinn12Stick to the historyCare about the history and that’s good when it’s talked about. Too much politics..
-
NHPod53“A” for context, “D” for hostSubject matter and most guests are well worth your time. Don Wildman, though can be incredibly annoying. So dramatic - everything is fascinating, amazing, profound, etc. He also makes rambling statements apparently to let us know how much he knows, which he eventually turns into a question for the guest by saying, “Isn’t that right?” Ex.: “Ho Chi Minh. Tell me about this man.” DW then launches into a long speech telling the expert about Ho Chi Minh.
-
$$$ok$$$American Liberals history podcastDon’t care your political stance. This is not a history podcast. Blindingly hard left leaning. Guests are just there to jab at Trump I guess. This is just garbage. Stick to history not your personal agenda… gross and immature.
-
ian879571ExcellentI’ve listened to many history podcasts and this is one of the best. The topics are varied but invariably interesting. Don the host is also a great interviewer: he does enough research to ask good questions, but generally just lets the expert guests speak.
-
Shadwell von BernsteinA must have on my listI have been listening to podcasts since they first came out. Thousands of episodes from hundreds of shows. I love history and the BBC. This is a fresh American take on so many interesting topics. It is tops in my playlist. Thanks!
-
jmacdonald1233I can’t anymoreI’ve given this a try for almost a year but the bias in history is just insane. We get it you don’t like Trump, no one else does wrong. And any history about Americans usually focuses on more of the bad than the good. I just couldn’t do it anymore. You got a great voice and easy to listen to but the context is wrong or skewed a lot.
-
Mr.CopywriteWorth the listenIgnore the reviews claiming this podcast is (to reference an overused and now pejorative phrase by bad faith respondents) “woke”. The host does an excellent job of framing American history with proper hindsight with a clear thesis each episode.
-
walstreetrrrrrSo interestingThank you for your podcast. The stories you tell help make the information come to life. The way you often give us a new point of reference for characters and happenings is so helpful. The scholars you have also helpful. Thank you!
-
B ybuybuhbhubLove this podcastI listen to this podcast while driving. It’s the perfect length and it’s full of mini dives from experts into important events in American history. Thank you.
-
stonezone85Great podcastI don’t understand why people think this is a biased podcast. I listen to a ton of history podcasts and this is right up there as one of the best. I feel like people are constantly looking for triggers where they don’t exist. History is complicated and nuanced. There is no need to analyze everything in a political lens.
-
KlingridPresidentsI am absolutely enjoying the series on American presidents. I just listened to the most recent track, Chester Arthur. The only thing I remembered about President Arthur was his muttonchops. Thank you for giving me insight into this man, and to all the presidents you have already covered in the series. I’m sure I’m not the only one who is Learning more about American history than we did in high school.
-
Duffyj83Love this podcastThis is a regular listen for me, the content is fantastic and not every podcast is necessarily elevated by the host and narration, but Don Wildman certainly does that here. His enthusiasm and own knowledge about the subjects he covers really makes this special compared to some other history podcasts I have listened to.
-
FrettybettyInterestingAnd apparently very offensive to people who wish history would stay whitewashed. Bonus!
-
Upset driverHancockIt’s funny living on the south shore in Massachusetts, I could have sworn Braintree, MA is south of Boston. Not north as you say in the beginning of the Hancock episode.
-
Deana BallardHistory is Interesting!Hard to chose a favorite episode but if I had to I’d chose the episode about Al Capone and the Mobster Museum. I’d love to hear more about the Old Mob Days! Deana from Salem Oregon
-
Matt.stWildman is the manAwesome show. He has great guests, and the historical analysis is excellent.
-
teacha95Could be so much betterIf you’re looking for an unbiased history podcast you might want to look elsewhere. His topics aren’t terrible but all too often Don’s personal political slant is plain to see.
-
cmcquietmanSome Fun …The podcast topics are fun. The host is a little creepy. Almost every topic involves some portrayal of good guys vs. bad guys. And of course, the good guys are always Indians, Africans, and women. The bad guys, European men. Silly, but I believe the host thinks that nonsense is true. Poor guy. Additional comment 12/28/23. Did you edit out the word “Indian” in the Polk episode? That’s insane. Such behavior ruins an otherwise good podcast. Additional comment 4/6/24. Can’t listen anymore. I look at the topics and think, how goofy is the host going to be? And then I move on, because he’s going to be goofy.
-
JohnmarcusequentialGreat ShowDon does a great job telling bite sized histories of US presidents. I intend to work my way through every episode. Superb voice and good cadence that makes for easy listening.
-
Bojado72Unfortunately too woke in my opinionReally wish we could just get shoes that was in the middle and tells it’s stories with no agenda. In my opinion this show is like many others and ruins a chance to stand out due to being woke. Immediately unsubscribed once the woke side became obvious
